Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the young woman piloting the spacecraft?

Answer: Cass

Emma Campbell-Jones played Cass. Although we only see her for about two minutes, we do learn that she became a pilot to see the universe. This is Emma's second appearance in the "Doctor Who" universe - she was Doctor Kent, one of the scientists who was killed in "The Wedding of River Song." Campbell-Jones is half-English, half-Scottish, and began acting in television in 2005.
2. Which incarnation of the Doctor shows up to rescue the pilot on the crashing space ship?

Answer: The Eighth

Paul McGann, who played the Doctor in the 1996 television movie, returns to the role and picks up where he left off. Coincidentally, the video was released on November 14, McGann's 54th birthday. Since the film, McGann has done quite a few Big Finish audio stories playing the Eighth Doctor. In a bizarre Time Lord worthy twist, despite appearing on screen only twice, thanks to the novels and audio stories, by 2012 the Eighth Doctor had actually appeared in more stories than any of the first 11 incarnations.
3. The pilot of the crashing spaceship is relieved when she finds out the Doctor is a Time Lord with a TARDIS.

Answer: false

When Cass finds out the Doctor is a Time Lord, she reacts in horror. The Doctor tries to argue that he is "one of the good ones" but is unconvincing. Cass chooses to die by crashing into the planet rather than get into the TARDIS with the Doctor. This is a good indication of exactly how far the Time Lords had degenerated as a result of the Time War.
4. What planet does the Doctor crash on?

Answer: Karn

Karn is a planet in the Kasterborous System, a colony of Gallifrey. It contains many crashed spaceships, brought down by the psychic powers of the Sisterhood. The Fourth Doctor traveled to Karn to defeat the evil time lord Morbius, who was being resurrected by a mad scientist. Karn was first created in the 1974 stage play "Doctor Who and the Daleks in Seven Keys to Doomsday."
5. What is the name of the leader of the Sisterhood?

Answer: Ohila

Ohila, played by Clare Higgins, is the head of the Sisterhood. She is the one who persuades the Doctor that he is the only one who can stop the Time War. Her name is a direct reference to Ohica, one of the original members of the Sisterhood in the Fourth Doctor era episode "The Brain of Morbius." Maren was the leader of the Sisterhood in "Brain of Morbius." The Sisterhood are the keepers of the Elixir of Life, which can assist Time Lords in regeneration.
6. The Doctor mentions several of his companions from the Big Finish audio stories. Which of the Doctor's companions was NOT mentioned?

Answer: Bernice "Benny" Summerfield

Most of the adventures of the Eighth Doctor take place as part of the Big Finish audio series, with some prose stories as well. The Doctor mentioned Charley, C'rizz, Lucie, Tamsin and Molly. Bernice Surprise "Benny" Summerfield was a 26th century archeologist from Beta Caprisis.

She is featured in many New Adventures novels, but only a few audio stories. Charley Pollard was a 20th century human; in saving her, the Doctor violated the laws of time. Lucie Miller was a late 20th century Human from Blackpool. Tamsin Drew was an actress from Dulwich. C'rizz was a shape-shifting Eutermesan, and Molly O'Sullivan was an Irish nurse serving during World War 1.
7. What does the Doctor ask the Sisterhood to turn him into?

Answer: Warrior

Once the Doctor has made the determination that he must act to end the Time War, he asks the Sisters to use their magical powers to turn him into a warrior. Right after he regenerates, the Doctor takes the bandolier from Cass, to indicate his new status as a fighting man.
8. What does the Doctor say right before he regenerates in "The Night of the Doctor"?

Answer: Physician, heal thyself

The Eighth Doctor's last words are from the Bible, Luke 4:23 to be precise. "Doctor No More" are the first words of the War Doctor. "I'm sorry" was a very common refrain of the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant). "Carrot juice?" were the last words of the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker).
9. When the Doctor regenerates, what distinguished British Actor is playing the "War Doctor"?

Answer: John Hurt

John Hurt's appearance in the 50th Anniversary special was revealed at the end of Season 7, in the closing moments of "The Name of the Doctor." In "Night of the Doctor" he is shown only as a reflection, and we see a younger image of John Hurt than the character he will be playing in the Anniversary Special "The Day of the Doctor."
Hurt began acting in the early 1960s on British television. He has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Kane in "Alien" (1979), Winston Smith in "1984" (1984) and Chancellor Sutler in "V for Vendetta" (2005). He was nominated for an Academy Award for his work as John Merrick in "The Elephant Man" (1980). Hurt and Ian Holm acted together in "Alien."
10. Who wrote "The Night of the Doctor"?

Answer: Steven Moffat

Steven Moffat, who has been the show-runner of "Doctor Who" since 2010 wrote the mini-episode. He has written most of the key episodes during the Eleventh Doctor's tenure, and is staying on for the new Doctor in the eighth season.
Hayes was the director of the mini-episode, Howard Burden was the costume designer. Terence Dicks (credited as Robin Bland) wrote the episode "The Brain of Morbius," which had the first appearance of the Sisterhood of Karn.
