"The Walking Dead," Season 11, Episodes 9-10 Quiz

Answer: Alden

Episode 9, "No Way Out," aired on February 20, 2022 on AMC and was written by Corey Reed. The episode was directed by Jon Amiel. Alden, who was originally a Savior and later joined the Hilltop community after being taken prisoner there, meets his fate in the episode.

Elijah is another member of Maggie's group from her former camp in Meridian. In episode 9, It is revealed that Brandon Carver was the one who killed Elijah's sister and that her name was Josephine. Elijah is intent on killing Carver for in vengeance.

Answer: Father Gabriel

Father Gabriel initially refrained from killing the Reaper's priest when he came across him, perhaps in awe that the man still maintained his faith so far into the apocalypse. Gabriel returned to Maggie and claimed to have found no one, but later, in episode 9, he finds himself in a face-to-face confrontation with the Reaper's holy man once again.

The priest tries to convince Father Gabriel that God wants him to believe again, and this time, Gabriel drives a machete into the man's stomach.

Answer: Leah

Daryl suggests trading Brandon Carver to the Reapers in return for a deal to go free. Leah refuses the deal, revealing that she has a sniper on the roof. Gabriel, however, takes out the sniper, forcing Leah to take the deal. After making the deal, Maggie nevertheless kills several of the Reapers in cold blood, including Carver, Boone, and Washington. Leah escapes. Daryl tracks her down but then lets her go alive. Daryl and Leah used to have a romantic relationship during the long, six year time jump, while he was living a solitary life in the woods looking for Rick.

Answer: Negan

Negan comes upon Maggie vulnerably burying Alden, and she is startled and seems to fear he will take the opportunity to kill her. Instead, Negan tells her he knows she will never forgive him for killing Glenn, and he can't continue to live looking over his shoulder, so he will leave Alexandria and part ways with the group. This departure was adapted from Issue 174 of the comics.

Answer: Daryl

Daryl has become a member of the Commonwealth's military forces. At the end of the episode, Daryl is shown confrontationally approaching the gates of the Hilltop, which are manned by Maggie, who seems to be leading a community in the ruins. She tells him, "It doesn't have to be this way" and he replies, "Yeah. It does."

Answer: Halloween

The episode opens with RJ and Judith being led through a scare house by Daryl as dressed up zombies reach out for them. It's a strange juxtaposition between the Commonwealth and the outside world, where such monsters are real. Daryl calls off one of the actors, saying, "That's enough!" And leads the kids out.

The Halloween festival also involves cookies and a petting zoo manned by Ezekiel.

Answer: Motörhead

"Eat the Rich" comes from Motörhead's 1987 album, "Rock 'n' Roll." The choice of music is a callback to Daryl's brother Merle, who played Motörhead in season 3 of "The Walking Dead," blasting "Fast and Loose" and drinking whiskey while trapped in a car surrounded by walkers. The song choice also highlights the caste system in the Commonwealth and the growing resistance to it among the populace.

Daryl has become guardian of RJ and Judith in the Commonwealth, now that Michonne is gone. When Judith is unable to buy a record at the fair, a friend asks, "Don't you get an allowance?" Later that evening, she asks Daryl, as they sit together in their rundown apartment, if she can have an allowance. He says they'll discuss it again when his "job settles." He seems to be wanting to succeed in the Commonwealth for the sake of the kids, especially after Judith says she likes it there and wants to stay there. Meanwhile, Judith's friend has purchased the record for her, and she and Daryl listen to it together after he buys her a record player.

Answer: A bottle of wine

Ezekiel has thoracic cancer. Carol sees that Lance Hornsby is trying to impress Pamela Milton with an acceptable bottle of wine for an upcoming masquerade ball. She finds a way outside the walls to a dusty wineshop and brings him a bottle. Earlier, she snuck into the hospital to see where Ezekiel was on the surgery list.

She was caught by Yumkio's brother, a surgeon, who told her Ezekiel was far down the list.

Answer: Princess

The guests are by invitation only and walk down a red carpet to the ball. Mercer talks with Princess, who seems to be working the door, and invites her in with him. He is met with resistance by a list checker, but is allowed to proceed after insisting Princess is with him.

Answer: Connie

Connie used to be an investigative reporter in the old world. She is suspicious of the going ons of the Commonwealth and asks uncomfortable questions. She asks Pamela Milton what her father, whose portrait she is unveiling at the ball, would think of the glaring class divide in the Commonwealth. Connie's sister Kelly accompanies the reporter in her work as a sign language translator.
