Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of Natasha Yar's daughter, who commanded the Romulan fleet in the "TNG" two-part episode "Redemption"?

Answer: Sela

In the original timeline, Natasha Yar died without having any children. In the "TNG" episode "Yesterday's Enterprise", the Enterprise-C travelled into the future. Yar was aboard when it returned to its own time and was captured by the Romulans. She subsequently had a daughter, Sela, with a Romulan general.

2. In the "Star Trek: TOS" episode "The Naked Time", Spock says that Sulu "is at heart a _________ out of the 18th century". Which word goes in the blank?

Answer: swashbuckler

This is the episode "The Naked Time" in which the crew becomes infected by a virus that makes the crew act like they are intoxicated and dangerously irrational. Sulu, shirtless, was prancing around the Enterprise with a fencing foil, which is why Spock said he was "at heart a swashbuckler." A similar situation occurred on board the Enterprise-D, in the "TNG" episode "The Naked Now."

Fill in the blank to name the title of this episode. "__________ in the Dark" "______ in the Dark."

Answer: The Devil

5. First contact between Earth and the Andorians occurred at a Vulcan monastery in the episode "The Andorian Incident". What was the name of the Imperial Guard Commander, first seen in this episode, who would cross paths with Jonathan Archer several more times during the run of "Star Trek: Enterprise"?

Answer: Shran

The Andorians believed that the Vulcans were using the P'Jem monastery to spy on their homeworld. Surprisingly, it turned out they were correct. Shran did not like being in Archer's debt and had sleepless nights due to this.

Shran would help Enterprise on several occasions after their initial encounter, including on the mission to find the Xindi weapon.

Question by Daddy19
6. In what Earth city was Starfleet Academy located?

7. Before being assigned to the USS Enterprise, Captain Jean-Luc Picard served for 22 years on another ship as First Officer and later Captain. Which one?

Answer: USS Stargazer

Captain Picard's history with the USS Stargazer was related in the "TNG" first-season episode "The Battle" when the Ferengi produce the Stargazer as a "gift". Picard had been forced to abandon his ship nine years earlier at the Battle of Maxia - against an unknown foe. Apparently, the foe had been Ferengi. The "gift" ends up being a trap for Picard and he is forced to relive and reenact the events of the battle through the use of a "mind sphere".

Question by reedy
8. Sukie Plakson played the role of Worf's mate K'Ehleyr. What was the name of the Vulcan Doctor that she also played on "Star Trek: The Next Generation"?

Answer: Selar

Doctor Selar was often referred to, but only seen in one episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation". As well as Selar and K'Ehleyr, Suzie Plakson also played the female Q in "VOY" and the Andorian, Tarah, in "ENT".

The wrong answers were also Vulcans. Vorik worked in Voyager's engine room. Soval was the Vulcan Ambassador to Earth in "ENT" and Stonn was Spock's love rival for T'Pring's affections in "TOS"

Question by Daddy19
9. (S is for Sato) How did Captain Archer persuade Hoshi Sato to leave her language teaching position in Brazil early in order to be part of the unexpected Enterprise mission?

Answer: By playing her a recording of Klingon telling her that she would be the first human to talk to them.

Hoshi Sato is the Communications Officer on the Enterprise NX-01. She is an extremely gifted linguist who was on leave from Starfleet to teach languages in Brazil and was very reluctant to leave her position early. Archer than played a recording of Klingon and explained she would be missing out on the opportunity of a lifetime to be the first human to talk to Klingons, which did the trick of getting her to join the ship. This mission which takes part in the pilot episode "Broken Bow" is to return a Klingon who had crashed on Earth, and then shot, to his homeworld.

Her gift for languages, even non-terrestrial ones, proves invaluable when encountering new alien species because the Universal Translator was in its early stages, and wasn't always reliable.
