Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode opens with Homer using which of Ned Flanders' belongings?

Answer: Weed whacker

Ned finds Homer working on the lawn and, since the lawn mower is out of commission, Homer is using his neighbour's weed whacker to complete the entire job. Clearly this is taking a while. Nonetheless, Flanders invites the entire Simpson family over for a barbecue the next day, something that Homer is hesitant to accept because despite how nice their neighbour is, he believes Ned is a horrible jerk. Marge only makes the situation worse when she tells Homer to lay off the gibes toward Flanders just because their family has things a bit easier than their own. Homer opts to stay in while the others go along.
2. What entices Homer to go to the Flanders' barbecue?

Answer: The smell of the food

Homer, opting to make a fuss, stays on the couch watching the dull CFL Draft while the rest of the family enjoys the barbecue next door. It isn't until the wind blows the scent of barbecued meat across the yard that Homer's mouth starts watering enough for him to make an appearance. Arriving, he snags a heaping plate of burgers and a six pack of beer before going to sit, alone, under a tree in the back of the yard for a while. That's when Flanders calls everyone over for an important speech.
3. What was once Ned's profession?

Answer: Pharmacist

As Ned explains in his speech, the sinister reason he gathered everyone for a barbecue was to announce his retirement from the pharmaceutical business; to demonstrate his seriousness he burns his old tie. Instead, he says, he'll be opening a left-handed shop in the Springfield Mall to cater to the one in nine Americans who suffer every day from a lack of left-handed products.

He'll call it the Leftorium. Later, when Ned asks Homer about the idea, Homer says that it'll be a horrible idea. When Maude comes over with a wishbone and asks them to make a wish before breaking it, Homer opts to wish for Flanders' failure.
4. Where does Bart get the idea to try learning karate?

Answer: From the TV

Marge, concerned about Bart's laziness, tries to persuade him to pull himself away from his six-ish hours of television viewing in the living room, even though Homer actually encourages the inactivity. Instead, she says Bart should be getting exercise. When an advertisement for the Springfield Martial Arts Academy appears on the TV, Bart ends up jumping on the idea, much to Marge's delight. Homer tries to force her to apologize to the TV.
When Homer drops Bart off, he ends up checking in at Ned's new store to find that he hasn't sold a single item.
5. What does Bart pretend he learned during his first karate lesson?

Answer: The Touch of Death

Bart, expecting to learn karate on his first day, meets his instructor, Akira, who hands him a copy of Sun Tzu's "The Art of War". Bart finds Akira's lesson-- to fill one's head with wisdom-- to be dull, especially since the commercial involved people breaking stone blocks with their heads.

He instead decides to duck out of his class to go tot he arcade where, coincidentally, he plays an arcade game known as "Touch of Death". When asked what he learned over dinner, he says that the first lesson was about the Touch of Death itself, and proceeds to freak Lisa out.
6. After opening his store, most of Flanders' customer interactions involve parking validations.

Answer: True

Bart continues to head to karate classes at the Springfield Mall, but what his parents don't realize is that he's taking their $10 lesson fees and spending his time exploring the mall, arriving back just before the end of the session. Meanwhile, Homer continues to check in on business at the Leftorium and, suffice to say, it's going poorly. Flanders can't seem to sell a single thing (even thieves don't want the items) and he's validating customer parking without purchase. At Moe's later on, Homer confides in the guys that he couldn't be happier about Flanders' store going under, even as Moe struggles to open a wine-bottle with a right-handed corkscrew. Homer doesn't tell him about the products they sell.
7. Which of these does Homer not buy from Ned's garage sale?

Answer: Bed

At work, Homer decides to put in a complaint about there being too many apples in the vending machines and not enough candy. What follows ends with him in front of Mr. Burns' desk (as his boss struggles with a right-handed can opener). Once again, he refuses to give any knowledge about the Leftorium and, as he heads home, he finds Flanders holding a garage sale to earn a quick buck. By rubbing in his neighbour's futility, Homer ends up spending a very low amount of money-- $75-- for the Flanders' entire living room set, a barbecue, and clothing. Marge and Lisa both express their disapproval.
8. Does Bart eventually get found out for missing his karate lessons?

Answer: Yes

Homer ends up receiving a caller to his front door from the Springfield Collection Agency, and while it seems like he's about to get sussed out for not paying his bills, it turns out that the man is actually stopping by to speak to Ned Flanders.
At the mall the next day, Homer drops Bart off at his karate lesson (which Bart promptly flees as soon as his back is turned) and turns the corner to find that the Leftorium is out of business.
At school, Lisa ends up getting picked on by bullies who take her saxophone away, so she calls Bart over to show off his karate skills. This puts Bart into a horrible situation and he ends up hanging from a basketball net by his underwear.
9. Where does Ned's sister live?

Answer: Capital City

Homer tries to return Ned's gas grill one evening and finds that the property has been seized by the bank. The Flanders, meanwhile, are at the curb in their car; Ned explains that they're heading off to Capitol City the next day to live with his sister in her apartment for a little while.

He explains to Homer that in such times of trouble he would normally turn to the Bible, but he sold his to Homer for seven cents. Feeling guilty, Homer tries to explain that it was all his fault for cursing Ned, and he tells Flanders to open the Leftorium the next day-- he has a plan.
10. Who buys the rare left-handed Roadster from Ned's store?

Answer: Mr. Burns

Heading to the phone, Homer calls up all of the left-handed people he knows for a favor. The next day, Ned arrives at the store to find that Homer has already opened it up and filled it with customers, enough to bring him back into the black. Ned is even able to sell the rare left-handed Roadster in the back of the shop to Mr. Burns, ensuring that he can get back his house and keep the store in business for the foreseeable future. Todd Flanders leads the store in a rousing rendition of "Put on a Happy Face" as Ned and Homer toast to success.
