Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A stickup man with a huge scar on his face who likes to rob drug dealers

Answer: Omar Little

Portrayed by Michael K. Williams, Omar Little is perhaps the most beloved character on 'The Wire'. He was described by Barack Obama as his favourite character on his favourite show. One of the few characters to remain prominent throughout all five seasons of the show, Omar operates with his own code, siding with neither the police nor the drug dealers.

He likes nothing more than to steal drugs from dealers before selling them back for 100% profit.
2. A young man whose mother sells his clothes for drugs, and who can't escape the world he's born into

Answer: Duquan "Dukie" Weems

Along with Namond Brice, Michael Lee and Randy Wagstaff, Dukie is a student at Edward Tilghman Middle School, the institution upon which much of season 4 of 'The Wire' is focused. Dukie comes from a home that has been broken by drugs, and he is bullied at school for not having clean clothes or personal hygiene.

In one of the most tragic character arcs in the show, Dukie seems to have some hope under the tutelage of Mr. Pryzbylewski, before ultimately falling into a life of drugs himself.
3. A police officer who leaves the force to become a teacher after making a big mistake

Answer: Roland "Prez" Pryzbylewski

From the task force assembled in season 1, Prez wastes no time in demonstrating his ineptitude out in the field. However, when it comes to the code breaking work required to get the wire up and running he is more than able to prove his worth. After fatally shooting a plain clothes officer in season 3, Prez leaves the force and becomes a maths teacher at the local middle school.
4. A (sometimes) reforming junkie who becomes a valuable police informer

Answer: Reginald "Bubbles" Cousins

Played by Andre Royo, Bubbles is introduced in season 1 as a heroin addict who will do anything do get enough money for his next hit. However, as the show progresses we learn that Bubbles is a great guy who genuinely cares about the other people in his life and who is making a concerted effort to beat his habit. Bubbles is one of very few characters in 'The Wire' whose story ends on a positive note, as he is invited to dine with his family after living in their basement.
5. An officer who struggles to reconcile her life in the force with her family at home

Answer: Kima Greggs

One of the few major female characters on 'The Wire', Kima Greggs is a hard-working detective who is one of the most effective in the initial group that are working on the Barksdale case. She forms an alliance with Bubbles, who becomes an informer and friend throughout the course of the show.

In her home life, Kima has difficulties with the domesticity of her partner Cheryl, who asks her to take up a desk job to deal with the impending birth of their child.
6. An extremely perceptive homicide detective who likes to make miniature furniture

Answer: Lester Freamon

Lester Freamon is perhaps the smartest detective in the Barksdale detail, or perhaps even in the whole of the Baltimore Police Department. A calm, precise man, he is always making productive suggestions to the team and generally doing more than anyone else. His love of knitwear and crafting miniature furniture only add to the mystique.
7. The brains of the Barksdale operation, he likes to study economics in his free time

Answer: Stringer Bell

The Barksdale drug operation is ostensibly run by its namesake Avon Barksdale, but in actual fact his close friend Stringer Bell is really the one in charge. Despite the fact that his earnings come from a drug empire, Stringer is always trying to legitimise his money, and is far more calm and collected than the hot-headed Avon. Stringer Bell is typically regarded as the breakout role for British actor Idris Elba, who went on to star in huge Hollywood blockbusters such as 'Pacific Rim' and Marvel's 'Thor' series.
8. A corrupt senator with a memorable one-word catchphrase

Answer: Clay Davis

Showing that corruption can go all the way to the top of local government, Clay Davis is a slimy Maryland State Senator who is happy to bend the law to turn a quick buck. Despite his corruption, Davis manages to maintain his position thanks to his relationships with both other politicians and the top brass of the Baltimore PD.

His one-word catchphrase has certainly become one of the most quotable lines from show.
9. A cold-blooded killer, she is part of a heavy-hitting partnership with Chris Partlow

Answer: Felicia "Snoop" Pearson

Snoop and Chris are the primary soldiers of Marlo Stanfield, who becomes the biggest drug kingpin in town thanks, in no small part, to their brutality. Snoop is played by Baltimore native Felicia Pearson, who was not an actor and had spent time in prison for second-degree murder before her time on the show.

She came to the attention of the show's producers after she met Michael K. Williams (Omar Little) in a club in Baltimore and he brought her onto the set to audition.
10. A former enforcer, he is released from prison and opens a boxing gym

Answer: Dennis "Cutty" Wise

Cutty first appears in 'The Wire' in season 3 after he is released from prison for murder. It soon becomes apparent that he used to be one of the best known 'soldiers' around, but he struggles to get back into the drug game upon his release and decides to get out completely.

He directs his energy into founding a boxing gym, designed to give some of the young people of Baltimore a different life to the one he had.
