He also pointed out that Linda hadn't asked about how her husband was killed, nor was she concerned about being stalked by an escaped serial killer. Scully and Skinner, of course, didn't believe Mulder. Thinking Mulder's mind was still clouded by his encounter with Modell, Skinner asked Mulder to turn over his weapon.

Mulder saw Scully shoot herself in the head, saying Linda was making her do it. Then he saw Linda pretending to be Scully. In reality, Linda had pretended to shoot herself, only to push Mulder from behind into thinking Scully was Linda. Ultimately, Scully shot Linda from over Mulder's shoulder, stopping the mind control and revealing that Scully really was Scully.
