Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did Sloan, the callous surveyor, say was going to be put up on the spot of one of the markers?

Answer: a Blockbuster

The other surveyor, Marty, was significantly more concerned for the environment, and was also ragging on Sloan to hold the marker still. Sloan, to be irritating, said, "All right, let's shoot this next one real carefully, Marty, 'cause this is where they're gonna put the Blockbuster."
2. When Agent Kinsley and Agent Stonecypher were telling Scully and Mulder about building a tower out of "ordinary office furniture," what did Agent Stonecypher say she had placed on top of the pile?

Answer: electric pencil sharpener

The two agents were waxing on about how great team seminars were and Agent Stonecypher recounted last year's, saying, "When I stood on Mike's shoulders and I put that electric pencil sharpener on top of the pile, we both knew, we could never have done it alone." Mulder seemed like he was developing an allergy to the car, so it was just his luck that they were stopped for the roadblock at the park trailhead!
3. What had Louis been watching before bed the night one of the creatures snuck into his house?

Answer: The Invisible Man

Mulder had arrived at the house just in time to find Louis wriggling through the dog door. The next morning, Scully found the tape of "The Invisible Man" and suggested that it was the source of Louis' terror.
4. What organization did Mulder mention having been a part of with his father?

Answer: Indian Guides

Mulder had found some tracks on the floor by the back door, and explained to Scully: "You see, uh, the ball of the foot here? A large foot and I count five toes." She stopped him, pointing out that he'd said it wasn't human, and he replied, "Well, I'm not saying it is.

The weight distribution is all wrong. People walk heel to toe. Whatever this thing is it walks on the ball of its foot." Scully paused for a moment before replying dubiously, "You're putting me on." Mulder replied earnestly, "No. My dad and I were Indian Guides. I know these things."
5. When they were setting off into the woods, Scully asked Jeff, the techie, what he thought had killed the victims. Who or what did he quote for his reply?

Answer: "When Animals Attack"

He told Scully, "Nature is populated by creatures either trying to kill something they need to survive, or trying to avoid being killed by something that needs them to survive. If we become blinded by the beauty of nature, we may fail to see its cruelty and violence." Scully asked if it was Whitman, but Jeff told her it was "When Animals Attack" from the Fox Network.
6. Mulder noted that the creatures were picking off the weakest members of the groups first.

Answer: false

He actually noted that they were picking off the strongest members first. They'd done so with Louis and his father, and then when they took Michelle, the Search and Rescue leader, Mulder confirmed his suspicions: "They separated us. That was on purpose. They divided us so they could go after her. She was in the lead and presumably the strongest. They take the strongest first."
7. What song did Scully sing to Mulder?

Answer: Joy to the World

Mulder was sleeping in Scully's lap, but wanted to ensure that she wouldn't fall asleep, so wanted her to sing. She resisted, citing her inability to carry a tune, but with some prodding from Mulder broke into a very unenthused rendition of "Joy to the World".
8. What was Scully collecting in the woods when Mulder woke up?

Answer: wild berries

Mulder woke up alone and called out for her. She popped her head up and told him that she was just collecting some wild berries for food. Just as she reassured Mulder that he'd never left her sight, she disappeared. Mulder ran over to where she'd been and saw that she'd fallen into an underground cavern.

As her eyes adjusted and she explored it a bit, she realized that she was in the home base of the creatures, where they kept the bodies of all their victims, and that she was not alone!
9. What did Mulder say was the translation of the Latin phrase, "Ad Noctum"?

Answer: Into Darkness

He told Agent Kinsley that the "Spanish Conquistadors used to carve it on the posts that they would lash the natives to as a warning" and noted that "Ponce De Leon came here 450 years ago looking for the Fountain Of Youth." Mulder thought that the creatures had found that Fountain of Youth and had lived in the woods for 400 years, adapting themselves perfectly to their environment. Kinsley dismissed Mulder's theory, saying he'd made it up because "you work on the X-Files, and you just want to write off your motel."
10. Was Scully attacked in the motel room?

Answer: no

When Mulder explained his theory of the case to Agents Kinsley and Stonecypher, Agent Stonecypher replied, "But that would mean that they'd come after any one of us that had gone into the woods, wouldn't it?" At that point, Mulder realized Scully was gone and had returned to the motel to pack.

He sped back there and found her, safe, and escorted her out of the room. Good thing, too, as the creature had indeed tracked Scully there and was hiding under the bed!
