Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where were Booger, Izzy and their friend headed?

Answer: comic book convention

Shaineh Berkowitz, Izzy's mother, seemed upset at first that he was going, particularly since the car seemed so unlikely to sustain the trip. However, with an admonition to Booger to drive safely, Shaineh let the boys leave.
2. What show was Shaineh Berkowitz watching when she had her "encounter?"

Answer: The Jerry Springer Show

Shaineh was watching an episode about a baby werewolf. Apparently, the wolf baby's mother Dolores had mentioned on the show a visit from Mulder, which was where Shaineh got the idea to write Mulder about her own strange experience.
3. Whose song played when the Great Mutato started smoking up Shaineh's house?

Answer: Cher

First, the Great Mutato dropped a fumigation tent over the house. Then he put a pan on the stove and dropped a hockey puck-like object into it that immediately started letting off smoke. Then Cher's song started to play as the Great Mutato made his way up to Shaineh's bedroom.
4. When Shaineh was explaining her story to Scully and Mulder, she pointed to a photograph of her son pictured with what?

Answer: a pig

Izzy was up next to the pig's face, holding a ribbon. The two looked oddly similar. Then, later, Shaineh referred to Izzy's room as a "pigsty."
5. What precaution had Shaineh taken against getting pregnant again?

Answer: tubal ligation

She told Scully that she'd had a tubal ligation two years ago, and pointed out that "you can't plant a seed in a barren field."
6. What did Shaineh note the intruder had eaten from her fridge?

Answer: peanut butter

She said she didn't know how many there had been; she'd only seen the one, but almost the entire jar of peanut butter had been eaten.
7. Izzy wrote the Great Mutato comic books.

Answer: true

Scully listened to Shaineh's description of the intruder as she was looking through Izzy's bedroom. She picked up one of the comic books and realized that the intruder matched the description of the Great Mutato. Izzy and Shaineh didn't think it odd that the intruder appeared in Izzy's comic book, since Izzy claimed to have seen him as well. Shaineh defensively added that just because the creature she saw matched her son's creation "don't mean it didn't happen."
8. Izzy and the boys took Scully and Mulder to a field to lure the Great Mutato with a sandwich. After he'd been there, how many bites did Scully find taken out of the sandwich?

Answer: 2

As the agents and townies watched, the Great Mutato approached the stump and picked up the sandwich. When the onlookers started to run at him, though, he dropped the food and dashed into the woods. Scully stopped at the stump to note that there were two bites (as though from two mouths) missing from the sandwich.

Then she followed Mulder into the woods. The Great Mutato got away, but they did find an old man who directed them to Dr. Pollidori.
9. What living organisms was Dr. Pollidori working with?

Answer: fruit flies

Pollidori had mapped out a theory that the segments into which the pupae systematically grew "represent a linear model for the genetic development of our friend, the fly. Each gene is responsible for the development of its corresponding segment: the legs, the mouth, the body, posterior and anterior.

But which I, through my genius, can alter into a creation of my own. Behold ... Proboscopedia." Mulder looked at the indicated image and realized that the fly had legs growing out of its mouth.
10. When Mulder asked Pollidori why he would mutate his subject, what was Pollidori's response?

Answer: "Because I can."

Pollidori was painted as a classic mad scientist, and Mulder later referred to him as "Dr. Frankenstein." Mulder wondered what the point of such designer mutations was if not to eventually use them on humans, and Scully tried to explain: "To unlock the mysteries of genetics, to understand how it is that even though we share the same genes we develop arms instead of wings. We become humans instead of flies or monsters."
