They went to the Old Man's home because he was the only person in the area registered to have the tablets found at the scenes of the encounters. Sure enough, they found some more tablets in the barn. Then they heard a noise in the hay loft and ordered whoever was there to come out. Through the door stepped the bird-like reporter, who told the agents that she'd seen the Great Mutato burying the old man in the barn.

The Reporter showed Scully and Mulder a photo album with pictures of the Great Mutato riding a horse, sitting atop a trailer, and holding a baseball bat. I guess even monsters can participate in that all-American sport!

The mob stormed the barn first, searching every nook and cranny for the Great Mutato. They didn't find him there, though they did manage to set the wooden structure on fire! Scully and Mulder had found the Great Mutato in the storm cellar amid a collection of Cher memorabilia, but they weren't able to keep it a secret: the reporter pointed them out to the mob.

When Pollidori saw the Great Mutato, he told the mob, "A pale student of my most hallowed arts whose life was taken by that which he gave life. By his own horrible creation. By that monstrosity that you see before you." When they asked who that student was, Pollidori confessed dramatically, "my father."

After Pollidori blamed it on the Old Man, the Great Mutato spoke up, telling the true story and shifting the blame back where it belonged: on Pollidori. 25 years prior, the Old Man had found that his only son, Pollidori, was conducting horrible experiments.

The Great Mutato had been the product of one of those experiments. The Old Man rescued the Great Mutato and loved him, raising him as his own son in his own home, and trying to help him find a mate.

As the Great Mutato spoke, the animals comically snorted, clicked, or grunted at the windows. There was also a chicken that made an appearance. I guess the people weren't the only ones interested in the tragic monster's story.

The song started playing as the cars drove out of town, and when they got to the nightclub it was revealed that Cher was onstage performing the song!

They may have been going to jail later (after all, he did technically rape two women), but their first priority was a Cher concert, which the Great Mutato was clearly enjoying.

They took the two-faced babies on "The Jerry Springer Show" and, when Jerry asked if the babies were hard to love, Shaineh stole a line from one of the Great Mutato's favorite films, "Mask", and replied, "What's not to love?"

After the Great Mutato was pulled onstage to dance with Cher, Mulder rose and, in an Elvis impersonation, invited Scully to dance. She took his hand and rose into his arms. As they danced, the scene slowed until it came to a stop as a comic book drawing of the scene.
