Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which Nintendo 64 title would you have needed to collect Jiggies (like the one depicted) to make your way from world to world?

Answer: Banjo-Tooie

Jiggies first appeared in "Banjo-Kazooie" but made a reappearance in "Banjo-Tooie" as one of the key collectible items needed for progression (along with musical notes, Jinjos, etc.). In this 3D platformer, you control Banjo and Kazooie, a bird and bear duo, and battle through themed worlds to face off against the evil witch Gruntilda. Access to the worlds is governed by how many Jiggies you collect from higher-stakes objectives in each world (and sometimes in the overworld). You need to pay the Jiggies to solve puzzles to open the route to successive destinations.

There were one hundred in "Banjo-Kazooie" and ninety in "Banjo-Tooie".
2. This landmark in Kakariko Village is the perfect spot to learn what song on your ocarina in "Ocarina of Time"?

Answer: Song of Storms

Taught by the hurdy-gurdy operator Guru-Guru in Kakariko Windmill, the Song of Storms has some interesting applications in "Ocarina of Time", least of which is the power to create rain, allowing Magic Beans to grow and causing the mill to operate much faster (after all, a storm will spin the blades of the mill). Doing so in the musician's presence will cause him to play out of control (he plays to the speed of the mill).

The Song of Storms makes a notable reappearance in "Majora's Mask", also on the Nintendo 64.
3. "Snap" was the subtitle of a game in what series?

Answer: Pokemon

Releasing in 1999, "Pokemon Snap" was the low-impact spin-off of the "Pokemon" series that didn't need battles or training to draw in players. Instead, you would be equipped with a camera and a small arsenal of items to lure or pester Pokemon so that you could take the best photos of them in their natural habitats.

The game was a surprise hit despite its short length, so much so that twenty years later, a sequel would be developed for the Nintendo Switch, cashing in on this niche nostalgia factor.
4. What game would you be playing if you used this item for a speed boost?

Answer: Snowboard Kids

"Snowboard Kids", like a number of other cartoony racing games for the Nintendo 64, made sure to create opportunities for players to hinder others or help themselves jet ahead. In addition to items like rocks and giant frying pans that could be used to stop players from advancing in a reasonable manner, items like the fan could be used to propel boarders in the same way that a mushroom could in "Mario Kart", the catch being that the fan could be used for a prolonged period, and only if the player using it didn't collide with an obstacle (or get hit).
5. If your pause screen looks like this high-tech device, you're probably playing as which fictional N64 character?

Answer: James Bond

If this is your pause screen, odds are you're playing "Goldeneye 007", the Rare-made shooter that ended up becoming a classic title for the console and a benchmark for multiplayer couch shooters upon its release. You're James Bond in this game, and in single player you complete missions in and around the events of the "Goldeneye" film. Pressing the START button on the controller will open your pause menu by honing in on your watch and, from there, you can check your mission objectives, scroll through weapons/accessories, and check your health/armor.

The watch can also, in some levels, be a laser.
6. What was the three-letter name of the reptilian platformer protagonist known for "Enter the Gecko"?

Answer: Gex

Sarcastic to the extreme, Gex was a platformer hero who just happened to be a gecko. Although the concept of these games was pretty simple, they notably featured levels and jokes inspired by popular films of the time like "Titanic" and "The Matrix". Two games in the series appeared on the Nintendo 64-- "Enter the Gecko" and "Deep Cover Gecko". Crystal Dynamics, the developers of "Gex", were also known for their more popular series, "Tomb Raider", and they were eventually bought up by Square Enix.
7. Although anyone could wield the depicted item in "Super Smash Bros.", which character had one at their disposal, regardless of item drops?

Answer: Ness

Ness, one of the four hidden characters unlocked in "Super Smash Bros.", never appeared in another Nintendo 64 game; his original game, "Earthbound", was on the SNES. The "Mother" series, of which Ness was a part, ended up taking a backseat through several console generations while Ness and his "Mother 3" counterpart, Lucas, would find continued popularity in "Smash". Ness, using his psychic powers, could also fight with his yo-yo and baseball bat despite the home run bat also being usable as a droppable item.

In both cases, the items were part of Ness' smash attacks.
8. Which Kong family member would collect these bananas in "Donkey Kong 64"?

Answer: Chunky

In "Donkey Kong 64", you can play as five different Kongs, each of whom has their own specific powers and collectible items. In addition to reclaiming personal Golden Bananas for the hoard, each Kong can collect one hundred bananas per level, and each set of one hundred is a specific colour depending on the Kong that can pick them up. For Donkey Kong, those bananas are yellow; they're red for Diddy; Tiny's are purple; Lanky gets blue; Chunky takes the unripe green.
9. In "Pokemon Stadium", visitors to the Kids Club could play a ring toss game where the rings were actually which of these Pokemon?

Answer: Ekans

Part of the nine-game collection in the Kids Club of "Pokemon Stadium", this mini-game involved a pretty straight-forward ring toss only instead of hoops you would need to toss circular Ekans at Digletts. Regular Digletts would result in points, but recurring golden Digletts would net more, so in a mini-game against friends, those could make the difference between winning and losing.

The only control needed for this game is the use of the analog stick-- flicking it lighter or harder could determine the distance an Ekans was thrown.
10. In "Paper Mario", you could spend coins on eggs in Toad Town that could be hatched into which of these creatures?

Answer: Li'l Oinks

Found near the train station in Toad Town, the Li'l Oinks dispenser is almost like a slot machine. For the cost of ten coins you can dispense an egg that can be opened to spawn a Li'l Oink to fill a paddock. Once the paddock is filled, the longest-waiting Li'l Oink can depart and leave an item for your use in battle.

There are ten colours of Li'l Oink, each of which has a different rarity and item drop.
