Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these is the Fire Sage in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" (N64)?

Answer: Darunia

Darunia also happens to be the leader of the Gorons found on Death Mountain. Link will meet him as a child when he needs to gain access to the Dodongo Cavern (with the Goron Bracelet) but Darunia will play a bigger role seven years later when Link must rid the Fire Temple of the evil fire snake, Volvagia, thus saving the Gorons once and for all.

Although Gorons reappear in "Majora's Mask", "Oracle of Seasons", and "Twilight Princess", Darunia does not. Din, while associated with fire (and the 'Din's Fire' magic), is not a sage but an ancient goddess (along with Farore and Nayru) overseeing Hyrule.
2. What is the last name and famous ancestor of "Uncharted" protagonist Nathan?

Answer: Drake

Nathan Drake, a descendant of none other than Sir Francis Drake, spends his spare time in the "Uncharted" series hunting down mysterious treasures in far-off destinations and, generally, getting himself into near-impossible predicaments. While a great deal of the series involves climbing like a monkey over precarious ledges, it also incorporates third-person shooter elements.

The first game ("Drake's Fortune") took Drake to find El Dorado in Peru, the second ("Among Thieves") brought him to Shambhala, and the third ("Drake's Deception") took him to the Iram of the Pillars. All three games involve fantasy elements.
3. 2011 game "Dark Souls" was the sequel to what earlier game by From Software?

Answer: Demon's Souls

"Demon's Souls" was released to rave reviews in 2009, mainly because of its unrelenting difficulty and learning curve. Players were shocked, to die in the game, of all things, because the game was notoriously difficult; it punished players for hasty decisions and legitimately rewarded smart tactics, patience, and wise gameplay.

They followed up with "Dark Souls" two years later, quickly receiving critical acclaim and selling millions of copies. Finally-- something for the "Super Ghouls and Ghosts" crowd in the 2010s!
4. What Visceral Games survival horror series features Necromorphs?

Answer: Dead Space

Releasing its first title in 2008, EA's "Dead Space" successfully employed survival horror elements to create an edge-of-your-seat shooter game with a unique premise. Set aboard a mining ship in the future (in space), Isaac Clarke needed to visit a distress beacon only to discover that the ship had been 'affected' by a religious marker, transforming the people onboard into bloodthirsty creatures referred to as Necromorphs.

The catch? Shooting them in the head was only part of the battle. To actually incapacitate foes, all of their limbs needed to be destroyed...otherwise they'd keep coming. Frequent jump-scares and effective lighting and sound made for a particularly nerve-wracking game. Sequels were released in subsequent years.
5. What playable class was added into "World of Warcraft" with the "Wrath of the Lich King" expansion?

Answer: Death Knight

Death Knights were initially introduced as a hero class, the first of their kind in the MMORPG. Starting at level 55, new Death Knights would start the game in Archerus: The Ebon Hold before venturing out into the rest of the world...of Warcraft. At the time of its release it was picked up by many players before heading out to Northrend and commencing the new material. Druids, of course, were one of the core playable classes in the game, appearing on day one of the popular Blizzard game. Draenei and Dwarves are both Alliance races, the former a "Burning Crusade" race and the latter from the core game.
6. What 1982 Namco arcade game included Pookas and Fygars in the enemy roster?

Answer: Dig Dug

"Dig Dug", originally released in arcades in the early 1980s, became a retro classic in later years due to its simple premise. You play a digger who must defeat Pookas and Fygars by either dropping rocks on them (which can be unsafe since you can also be killed by falling rocks) or by blowing them up. "Dig Dug" was later released on a number of collections for different home consoles eventually showing in the Xbox Live Arcade.

While Namco originally developed it, the rights were eventually passed to Atari for overseas distribution.
7. Who is Marcus Fenix's partner in the original "Gears of War" (Xbox 360)?

Answer: Dom

Dominic Santiago acts as the second player when completing the "Gears of War" trilogy in co-op. The right-hand man of Marcus Fenix, he's one of the main men of Delta Squad, committed to destroying the Locusts and fighting for Maria, his wife, who was taken captive and enslaved by the fearsome foes.

The hunt for Maria comes to a head in "Gears of War 2" when Dom and Marcus head underground to search for her. Other members of Delta Squad are Cole and Baird.
8. What light-gun NES game was released in a bundle with the original "Super Mario Bros." cartridge?

Answer: Duck Hunt

"Duck Hunt" is one of the top-selling games ever released simply because it was packaged with the original "Super Mario Bros." for the NES (which, in itself, was a bestseller of epic proportions). The aim of the game was to plug in the light gun and shoot at moving targets onscreen to perfect your score. Such could be done by shooting ducks or shooting skeet on a pitch.

The game was fairly simple but it became a hit and has since become one of the most memorable classics of early, retro Nintendo.
9. In "Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest" (SNES), who accompanies Diddy on his journey to save DK?

Answer: Dixie Kong

Although the first "Donkey Kong Country" game saw the titular Kong and his sidekick, Diddy, hunting down King K. Rool and the banana hoard stolen from his treehouse stash, Donkey Kong was kidnapped in time for the second game and replaced by Dixie Kong, a long-haired simian able to spin her hair into a helicopter. Dixie takes a starring role in "Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie's Double Trouble", when she leads the babyish Kiddy Kong on a quest to save DK and Diddy...both of whom have been captured. All of these games were made by Rareware for the SNES.
10. What name is given to the core PlayStation 2 controller?

Answer: Dualshock

The Dualshock has been an important fixture in the Sony family since the release of the original PlayStation. Featuring the X, circle, square, and triangle buttons, this remote became a staple in gamers' libraries. Although the PlayStation 3 was released with the SixAxis controller in 2006, its unpopularity led Sony to reintroduce an upgraded version of the DualShock, the DualShock 3, which was the first wireless controller in the line-up (other than SixAxis, of course, which was discontinued). DualShock 4 was subsequently created with a touch screen for the PS4.
