Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Morris, J, and Derek go by what collective name in their Nintendo DS rhythm game?

Answer: Elite Beat Agents

"Elite Beat Agents", a game under the short-lived Touch! Generations label for the original Nintendo DS, utilized the touchscreen functionality almost wholly. In the game, you helped the trio of agents solve problems around the map by dancing along to famous songs, hitting, scrolling, and tapping to the beat. "Elite Beat Agents" was a cult hit for the handheld and a critical darling despite no sequels being made in the years after its 2006 release (at least in North America). Similar titles, however, would start showing up on other devices (iPads, for instance), and often with original music.
2. What does the 'E' stand for in the name of video game developer EA Games?

Answer: Electronic

EA Games, also known as Electronic Arts, started developing in 1982 and rose in the industry to become one of the biggest-earning companies in video gaming. Amongst franchises in EA's roster are "The Sims", "Mass Effect", "Need For Speed", "Command & Conquer", and "Dead Space". EA Games has also had a long-running near-monopoly on the sports gaming genre for nearly two decades, consistently bringing out yearly editions of NHL, Madden NFL, NBA, Tiger Woods, and other sport games to great appeal.
3. Tirisfal Glades, Stranglethorn Vale, and the Isle of Quel'Danas are all found in which geographical region seen in a popular MMORPG?

Answer: Eastern Kingdoms

The Eastern Kingdoms are one of the original locations in "World of Warcraft" along with the westerly Kalimdor. While both contained Alliance and Horde zones to explore, both have since evolved to be more than a simple east and west set of locales. With each progressive expansion, more is added and the world shifts around as a result. Eastern Kingdoms contains Horde areas to the north (including the Undead city of Undercity in Tirisfal Glades and the Blood Elf Silvermoon City in Eversong Woods) and Alliance regions in the central kingdoms (like the Human-made Stormwind City in Elwynn Forest and the Dwarf-built Ironforge in Dun Morogh).
4. Which of these was not one of the original 150 Pokemon from the "Red" and "Blue" versions of the game?

Answer: Espeon

Espeon, a psychic-type evolution of Eevee, first appeared in "Pokemon Gold" and "Silver"; you could get it using a Sun Stone in its debut. The others, however, appeared in the earliest games in the series. Eevee, for instance, has become famous for being a very adaptable Pokemon, able to evolve into most available types using specific stones or circumstances. Exeggcute was a grass-psychic-type and Electabuzz was an electric-type found in the Power Plant in "Pokemon Blue".

Other 'E' Pokemon in the first 150 included Ekans, Electrode, and Exeggutor.
5. Ness is the main character of what SNES cult classic video game (known as "Mother 2" in Japan)?

Answer: Earthbound

"Earthbound", released in Japan in 1994, is a turn-based RPG known for it absurd premise and scenarios, its PSI powers, and it's difficulties being ported over to North American consoles. While many played "Earthbound" on an emulator (and even moreso "Mother 3's" fan-translated version), an SNES version did appear in stores in the mid-1990s before fading out.

It never got an official American rerelease until it showed up on the Wii U virtual console in mid-2013, nearly twenty years later. The game, of course, features the PSI-powered young boy, Ness, and his friends as they set out to stop the evil Gigyas. Ness later became a "Super Smash Bros." mainstay.
6. What 2006 Konami Wii game had players use the Wii remote to collect little creatures whose energy could power entire cities?

Answer: Elebits

"Elebits" was well-received for its zaniness and unique application of Wii Remote motion controls. In this game, you needed to point and shoot at the screen collecting little Elebits throughout your house. Elebits, able to power appliances and, on a larger scale an entire city, with Watts, would run rampant throughout each level and you would have to use special powers to locate them, even if it meant tearing apart the entire house.

A sequel was made for the Nintendo DS in 2009 though it followed neither the same plot nor genre.
7. What word comes before the name 'Mickey' in the 2010 Wii game featuring Disney's mouse protagonist in a magic world with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit?

Answer: Epic

"Epic Mickey" was released to much critical interest in 2010, mainly because it seemed as though the game would take Disney's lead player into dark and unfamiliar territory. The platformer wasn't necessarily as brooding as players were led to believe, but the game ended up having a lot to offer from 3D and side-scrolling sections to quests and battles.

After the release of "Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two" a couple of years later, Disney shut down the development team at Junction Point due to poor sales.
8. Which of these was considered the only content 'expansion' (non-stand-alone) for the original "Guild Wars" (PC) as opposed to an entirely new campaign?

Answer: Eye of the North

"Guild Wars" (also known as "Guild Wars: Prophecies"), an opposing force to the "World of Warcraft" reign over online gaming, became popular after its NCSoft release in 2005. Shortly after its original launch, it was followed by two add-on campaigns-- "Factions" and "Nightfall" which, while technically expansions to the game, were also stand-alone games. You could purchase "Nightfall" on its own and play it, for instance. "Eye of the North" could be tacked on to any of the three games and bring your character beyond the straight-forward level 20 game.

While you wouldn't level up any further you'd be able to dive deeper into the story line in preparation for the launch of "Guild Wars 2" (which released in 2012).
9. Subtitled "Sanity's Requiem", what uncharacteristically dark Gamecube game placed the character in several roles as a woman, Alexandra Roivas, became caught up in a horrific story spanning centuries of history?

Answer: Eternal Darkness

Regardless of character and regardless of time period, "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem" was made to exhibit several different facets of the survival horror genre. While you played as Alexandra Roivas as she searched through her grandfather's mansion, different parts of the story would go around the world, through time, and into the minds of different characters, all forced to face off against their sanity in different scenarios.

At one point in the game, if your sanity drops to low, the game will mock-crash. Who says games can't break the fourth wall? The game was critically acclaimed. Efforts to Kickstart a spiritual sequel have stalled repeatedly.
10. Immune to the Cordyceps disease, what is the name of the young girl protected by player character Joel in the PS3 game "The Last of Us"?

Answer: Ellie

"The Last of Us", created by "Uncharted" developers Naughty Dog, was lauded by gaming outlets upon its 2013 release to become 'Game of the Year' in the eyes of many. Praised for graphics, storytelling, controls, and characters, it followed a pair of survivors as they escaped ravaged cities in a zombie-esque survival horror plot.

In the game, the Cordyceps virus, spread by a fungus, turned people into rampaging monsters. Ellie, a young girl, was infected but immune. The game followed her and Joel's journey thereafter.
