Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these characters had a "Bad Fur Day" and became "Live and Reloaded"?

Answer: Conker

Conker, a feisty squirrel, first appeared in Rare's Nintendo 64 classic, "Diddy Kong Racing" as an original playable character. Conker, one of the smaller racers, had relatively good handling, but low speed like Pipsy the mouse and Tiptup the turtle. Like Banjo (of "Banjo-Kazooie" fame), Conker hit it big in his own spin-offs.

While Banjo became a popular platformer for all ages, Conker appeared in a few M-rated games including the Nintendo 64 title "Conker's Bad Fur Day" and the Xbox remake, "Conker: Live and Reloaded". Both were crude, yet popular releases which, while not as popular as the "Banjo-Kazooie" series, developed a dedicated following.
2. What world is the first stage of "Star Fox 64"?

Answer: Corneria

Taking to their Arwings, the crew of the Great Fox, including Fox McCloud, Peppy Hare, Slippy Toad, and Falco Lombardi, take to the skies of Corneria to begin their journey to battle the evil Andross. This first level has since become a classic, appearing in different capacities in the "Super Smash Bros." series. From Corneria, the player can either visit Meteo or, if they find the hidden battle behind the waterfall (with Falco's help), Sector Y. "Star Fox 64" was released on the Nintendo 64 in 1997 (as one of the console's earliest titles) and it was remade for the Nintendo 3DS as "Star Fox 3D" in 2011.
3. Who is Ratchet's partner in the best-selling PlayStation series featuring the character?

Answer: Clank

First appearing in "Ratchet & Clank" in 2002, Clank was a creation of the developers at Insomniac Games as a sidekick for Ratchet, a lombax whose mastery over unique weaponry seems unmatched. Clank, a sentient robot sidekick, became famous enough to warrant his own spin-off game for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) called "Secret Agent Clank".

The 2011 game "PlayStation Move Heroes" includes both Ratchet and Clank as playable characters as well; it's not well-received though, at least not compared to the "Ratchet & Clank" series proper.
4. PC title "Guild Wars: Factions" was marked with the unveiling of which in-game continent?

Answer: Cantha

An Asian-inspired land of dangerous creatures, warring opponents, and extensive, labyrinthine cityscapes, Cantha was a treat for those looking for more out of "Guild Wars". Like "Nightfall" after it, "Factions" presented players with a stand-alone campaign as well as an add-on to the original story and they could flip back and forth between them. Cantha consisted of the early-level Shing Jea Island, the Afflicted-plagued Kaineng City, the petrified forest of Echovald, and the Jade Sea. Notably, the latter two areas were split down the middle-- the Kurzick faction ruled the forests and the Luxon faction ruled the sea. Neither really got along.
5. What was the name of the third "World of Warcraft" expansion?

Answer: Cataclysm

Following "Burning Crusade" and "Wrath of the Lich King", "Cataclysm" brought players' level cap to 85 and reshaped everything about the game while bringing two new playable races, Worgen and Trolls, into the MMORPG. During this expansion, many of the zones originally found in the game (some of which were introduced from day one) were reconstructed with the reshaping of the world brought on by a cataclysmic event.

In addition to this, players were able to use flying mounts (introduced in "Wrath of the Lich King") to make their way through the main continents-- Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor.
6. Which video game villain is the head of V.I.L.E. and has spent much of their time traveling the globe?

Answer: Carmen Sandiego

Appearing in video games by Broderbund in the 1990s and then getting her own kids TV series, Carmen Sandiego's claim to fame is heading the evil organization known as V.I.L.E. which consists of many cleverly-named villains who steal priceless artifacts (some of which, like the pyramids, are not entirely feasible).

The "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" games involved the player following clues to different world destinations to locate the red-clad criminal and send her to jail; more often than naught she'd escape.

This series of educational games also sent players through time and on word and math quests.
7. In 2011, Atlus released this puzzle-game for Xbox 360 and PS3. All you need to remember is that all men are sheep; what's the title?

Answer: Catherine

"Catherine" is certainly the unique game. A puzzle-based psychological-themed title, "Catherine" puts you in the shoes of imperfect hero Vincent Brooks, a guy who spends a great deal of time drinking at the bar and trying to make things work with his girlfriend, Katherine. That's when the blonde, petite succubus known as Catherine shows up and throws Vincent's life into a tailspin. Now, his days consist of relationship woes and emotional issues and his nights are filled with near-fatal nightmares consisting of block-puzzles and sheep! The game was well-received critically-- aside from fiendish puzzles, the game was also praised for its attempt to analyze the player who, at certain points, would make choices that would affect the rest of the story and determine if Vincent is faithful (or not) or interested in a relationship (or not).
8. This chicken-like creature, when struck enough times in "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", will summon a flock to attack. What is the name of this bird?

Answer: Cucco

Cuccos have appeared across the board in different "Legend of Zelda" games and are always quite popular. In some games, like "Link's Awakening (DX)", the player must use a Cucco to progress in the game; you need it to access certain dungeons. In "Ocarina of Time", Cuccos are used as part of the trading game for the Biggoron Sword and even more to reach hidden items (think Kakariko Village, eh?). Notably, in a number of "Zelda" games, hitting at a Cucco with a weapon will result in its wrath. In "Ocarina of Time", a flock of Cuccos will descend upon you and, if you're not quick enough, kill you. Beware!
9. What cooking-themed game originally released on the DS received a Wii sequel subtitled "Cook Off"?

Answer: Cooking Mama

"Cooking Mama" was an original title by Majesco released exclusively on the DS because of its touchscreen capabilities. In the game, you used the touchscreen to chop, slice, set, mix, etc. as per the instructions of a particular recipe. The game scored you on how well you managed to cook the dish and if a part was failed, there was a chance you could not continue on. "Cooking Mama" was popular enough to receive several sequels on the Nintendo DS, 3DS, and Wii. Several spin-offs (including "Gardening Mama", "Babysitting Mama", and "Science Papa" were also released.
10. What is the default name of the protagonist and player character from "Chrono Trigger"?

Answer: Crono

"Chrono Trigger", released on the Super Nintendo in 1995 and on the Nintendo DS in 2008, was an RPG created by Square (before they merged to become Square-Enix) which has since been recognized as one of the best on the console by critics and fans alike. You play as Crono, a character who travels through different eras to stop the evil Lavos and prevent the end of the world. Settings include prehistoric times, the machine-driven wastelands of the future, and medieval times. Combat in the game is turn-based (with time elements) and includes some magic spells. Your active party consists of three people at any given time; the rest wait out at the End of Time.
