Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The player controls a spaceship called the AFX-6502.

Answer: Zanac

"Zanac" is an NES shooter style game initially released in Japan in November of 1986 and then followed by North America in October 1987. The user controls a spaceship known as the 'AFX-6502 Zanac' and must navigate through twelve levels to destroy the main antagonist of the game, known only as "The System". Like many early NES games, there was no "save" feature, therefore, defeating the game needed to be completed in one continuous playthrough or using the "continue" feature. "Zanac" was deemed a unique shoot em' up game and received relatively positive reception from gaming critics.
2. In one of the final battles, the hero fights a flying creature simply known as "Thunderbird".

Answer: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

"Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" was the second and final installment in the legendary gaming series for the Nintendo Entertainment System (though a third installment had once been proposed, but cancelled). It was released in Japan in January 1987 and in North American nearly a year later in December 1988. Unlike the first installment "The Legend of Zelda" which mainly used a top-down player view, "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" used various features that included the top-down player view, side scrolling, and its most unique feature, a top-down large overworld map.

The game also included a more complex combat system that included standing and crouching, which were absent from the first game. Various reviewers from "Nintendo Power", "Famitsu", and "Play" magazinea all gave the game excellent reviews allowing it to become one of the most popular NES games of 1988.
3. In the beginning, Mike Jones receives a telepathic message from the princess of the Argonians.

Answer: Zoda's Revenge

"Zoda's Revenge" was released during the spring of 1994 and became the second-to-last "first-person" party game ever released for the Nintendo Entertainment System ("Wario's Woods" being the last one). It was the sequel to the classic action-adventure style game "StarTropics" which had been released in 1990.

The game centers around the character Mike Jones who must collect seven mystic Tetrads in order to complete the game. Various puzzles, battles and mysteries must be solved along the way in order to finally defeat the avengers of the mysterious and evil Zoda.
4. A business simulation game released for Windows, Macintosh and Nintendo DS.

Answer: Zoo Tycoon

Released in 2001 by Blue Fang Games, this business simulation game has players attempting to develop a thriving zoo by establishing various exhibits and attempting to keep both animals and customers happy. Various structures including bathrooms, exhibits, aviaries, food stands and shops give monetary rewards that can then be used to improve the zoo. Failure to keep guests happy will result in monetary decline and failure to provide a safe zoo environment for the animals could cause them to escape and injure/kill the guests.

The first "Zoo Tycoon" had two expansion packs released due to its success ("Dinosaur Digs" and "Marine Mania").
5. Gina, Tanya and Beto act as your instructors.

Answer: Zumba Fitness

"Zumba Fitness", released for the Nintendo WII, Playstation 3, and XBox with Kinect, was a cardio-fitness game. It could be played single-player, multi-player and online multiplayer. Combining dance and fitness routines, the game challenges you to build your strength and endurance.
6. The player-character is set atop an ancient Mesopotamian structure.

Answer: Ziggurat

The 2012 "Ziggurat" by video games journalist Tim Rogers (also known for his other games "TNNS", "10x8" and "Videoball"). In this arcade-style shooter video game, the player must control the 'Last Human on Earth' and fight off alien freak enemies from atop a Ziggurat pyramid.

The player earns points based on how many enemies they defeat before being killed themselves. To add difficulty to the game, Tim Rogers developed the game to ensure that there are no power-ups available, no save feature, and no micropayment options.
7. Abigail Breslin voices the character Little Rock.

Answer: Zombieland: Double Tap - Road Trip

The setting for "Zombieland: Double Tap - Road Trip" takes place between the events that took place in the 2009 post-apocalyptic comedy film "Zombieland" and the 2019 post-apocalyptic comedy film "Zombieland: Double Tap". The game is a shoot'em up style game with a top down view.

It can be played both multiplayer or campaign mode. The objective is to defeat hordes of zombies. Upgrades such as ammo, attack damage, character stats and more are done between levels. The game received generally poor reviews from "Megacritic", "Eurogamer" and "Nintendo Life".
8. A real-time puzzle game in which the player controls a triangle on the screen.

Answer: Zoop

Released in 1995 for the Sega Genesis console, players try to prevent their player pieces from reaching the square in the middle of the screen by shooting them. These different coloured pieces are pushed towards the middle from the side of the screen. Pieces that are cleared from the screen are considered "zooped" and players score points based on this.
9. A 1983 Atari 2600 space game.

Answer: Z-Tack

Perhaps better known for the Atari 2600 game "Assault", the publishing company BOMB developed the game "Z-Tack" to generally mixed reviews. In fact, "TV Gamer" referred to it as "the second-best game to come from this new company" in a review done in 1983.

The player operates a UFO to destroy various bases on the cityscape below. They must do this while avoiding getting shot at. It has been described as being the opposite of the 1982 Atari 2600 game "Atlantis".
10. A coin-operated arcade maze game.

Answer: Zzyzzyxx

Perhaps the strangest name for any of the games on this list, "Zzyzzxx" (pronounced ZEE-ZIX or ZYE-ZIX), was a coin-operated game released in 1983 by Advanced Microcomputer Systems. The prototype for the game was called "Brix".
Players must manoeuvre through a maze of bricks to bring gifts to the Lola (all while trying to avoid the evil creatures Boris, Bluto, and Smoot). Other obstacles in play include falling bombs and rising missiles. Certain screen items, such as a helmet, allow the player to imprison enemies or to destroy layers/rows of bricks to make movement easier.
