Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The remake has the smell and taste icons.

Answer: True

The remake has the smell and taste icons that were in the "Space Quest 1" remake and "Space Quest 4." The game has plenty of jokes to go along with those icons. As usual, they solve no puzzles.
2. Can you get killed using the smell and taste icons?

Answer: The taste icon can kill you but not the smell icon

At the end of the remake, there is an "Abort Self Destruct" button. Unfortunately for Roger, this button is stuck. The game says that it cannot be pressed until it is lubricated. Roger can try to lubricate the button with his tongue, but that will electrocute him.

The narrator then gives you a false hint saying you should have searched the bathroom more closely. This got me stuck because I played the remake before I played the original, so I would restore to a point where I was in the bathroom and try to find what I missed there. Those who played the original game first know that is not the puzzle.

The puzzle is to get into the escape pod before the robot gets you.
3. Can Roger get his mop back in the remake?

Answer: Yes, but he will die

If Roger walks off the ship in the direction his mop went, he will float to his death. However, the death message in the remake says that if it's any consolation, you found your mop! You will both drift in space together forever. The original game does not specify that.

"No and he doesn't need it" would be the correct answer if the question specified that you had to be trying to win.
4. What is Vohaul's revenge?

Answer: Infesting Xenon with life-insurance salesmen

This is not a difference between the two versions of this game. I just love this revenge plot so much I had to ask a question about it. This kind of humor is what makes "Space Quest" different from other games.
5. How do you get past the root monster in the remake?

Answer: Feed it a dead rabbit with an explosive attached to it

Arguably the hardest puzzle in the original game was greatly simplified in the remake. In the remake, you go to the mushroom screen. You will see a green rabbit hop to the west. Go back west and the rabbit will hop into the concealed deadly pit. Reach into the pit and get the rabbit. Then, get the unstable ordinance from the wrecked plane. Unlike "Space Quest 4," you actually need the unstable ordinance this time. Then, attach it to the rabbit. Lastly, feed it to the root monster. The root monster will eat it and then it will blow up.

When I played the original game, I had a really difficult time with this puzzle. The most difficult part was learning that this puzzle is not the same as in the remake. Then I had to learn what to do here. Ironically, the hint that helped me solve it in the original was in the remake. In the remake, after you kill the root monster, the narrator says "And you thought you'd have to navigate the maze-like vines."

The puzzle made more sense in the remake. It gives purpose to the mushroom screen and the pit (what was the point of those things in the original? Funny deaths?). It feels like a classic "Space Quest" puzzle in the remake. In the original it's more like a "King's Quest" puzzle. It's usually "King's Quest" that has these things where you need to move very carefully.
6. Do you have to hide from the hovercraft to win the game?

Answer: No in the original, yes in the remake

In the remake, the game gives you a warning message about the hovercraft the second you enter the screen. It gives you this message even before the "TWANG and SHRIEK" message. In the original game you have plenty of time before the hovercraft warning message appears.

This gives you more time to get away from the screen in the original. Also, in the remake, you cannot take the northeast exit to the swamp without hiding from the hovercraft first. This could be for two reasons. First of all, the points you get for hiding from the hovercraft are easily missed in the original, so perhaps Infamous Adventures wanted to save you some trouble figuring out where you missed points when you beat the game. Also, in the remake this makes it harder not to discover the pink guy caught in the rope, since you're likely to hurry off the southeast side of the screen before you discover that you can hide from the hovercraft.

The remake takes extra steps to make sure you do not miss this as it is extremely important.
7. In both versions, Roger needs to dive down into the deep water in the swamp and get a gem. However, in the original version, it is impossible to get there quickly enough unless you type what first?

Answer: Hold your breath

Old Sierra games were notorious for making you type things you shouldn't have to type when you enter the water, such as "swim" and "hold your breath." The characters were too stupid to figure these things out unless you explicitly typed them. Fortunately, in the remake, all you have to do is click the hand in the water while Roger is in the deep end and he automatically dives AND holds his breath.
8. What deadly creature in the original game was removed in the remake?

Answer: Squid

In the original game, in the dark maze, there is a squid that kills Roger if you take too long to get through the maze or if you wander in the wrong spot. The squid does not exist in the remake. The game hints at a cave squid with danger signs in the maze and if you click the smell and taste icons in the right places, but there is none. Yet, in the remake you can still get killed in the maze if you wait too long to use the gem when you first enter.

It makes you wonder what kills you in the darkness or why the Pinkunz had to seal the top entrance to the maze for their own protection.
9. In the remake, when you get to the fork in the river, if you start down the wrong path, you get a chance to turn around.

Answer: True

In the original game, no matter which path you went down you'd instantly be sucked to your fate. If you went down the left path there was no turning back. Additionally, there were no hints which way to go. In the remake, if you go down the wrong path you're not doomed just yet. You retain control of the player and you just sit there. From there, you can use the eye, hand, talk, smell, and taste icons on everything. You'll get plenty of hints that this is the wrong path and that you should turn back. You're only doomed if you continue down this path.
10. What characters make a cameo appearance in the remake when Roger slings the rock at the guard?

Answer: Two Guys From Andromeda

These two aliens provide commentary on Roger's perfect knockout shot at the guard. The difference is in the remake the "Two Guys From Andromeda" are Infamous Adventures' bosses, not Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy. But they are dressed the same way.
11. In the original game, how many floors does the waxer appear on?

Answer: 3

In the original game, the waxer appears on all the floors except floor 1. In the remake, the waxer only appears on floor 2. Yes, there is a floor 2 in the remake. However, not all elevators go there. You have to take the elevator to floor 3. From there, there is another elevator that goes down one floor, so this is presumably floor 2.

This is where the waxer is and it's also where the trash can is.
12. In the remake on floor 4, there is a place that's a chain in the "Space Quest" universe that also appears in "Space Quest 3" and "Space Quest 4." What is this?

Answer: Monolith Burger

The music here in the remake is the same as the Monolith Burger music in "Space Quest 4." You can also occasionally hear the sounds of rejected burgers that'll be familiar to you if you've played "Space Quest 4." Additionally, you can hear "Astro Chicken" music.

This is where you get the lighter in the remake. You can also get a hamburger that will kill you if you eat it. Lastly, there's a droid behind the counter who's based on Marvin from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." You can talk to him, and he will tell it like it is: he's depressed because he's talking to Roger Wilco.

In addition, if you show him ANY item in your inventory, he will say "That looks like a weapon" and kill you. He is VERY paranoid and not very smart.
13. What fruit does Infamous Adventures reveal themselves to be obsessed with?

Answer: Banana

The remake has a force field that didn't exist in the original version. The code for turning of the force field is 3 bananas, as can be found in a paper in the 2nd floor in the room where you got the trash can. Additionally, there is a drawing of a banana in the bathroom.
14. In the original game, you can still win the game if the alien kisses you.

Answer: True

In the original game, when the alien kisses you, the game is on a timer. You have 40 minutes from that point to complete the game. That should be plenty of time if you know what you are doing. However in the remake, if the alien kisses you, you will die the second you reach the elevator. Additionally, the alien is harder to avoid in the remake.

This is one of the disadvantages of the remake (maybe Infamous Adventures just really loved this death and didn't want us to miss it)
15. The original "Space Quest 2" was the only game in the series without some kind of mini-arcade game. The remake added one. What's it called?

Answer: Troll's Tale

In the remake there is an arcade machine found on floor 3 in the room where you get the glass cutter. The arcade machine has this optional arcade game. Like "Ms. Astro Chicken" in "Space Quest 4," this game serves no purpose for the main game and you get no points for beating it. It's just an Easter egg.
