Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This game was set during World War 2, the objective was to shoot down as many enemy aircraft as possible as you set off from the safety of an aircraft carrier. Can you name this 1984 Capcom title?

Answer: 1942

"1942" was a vertically scrolling shoot-em-up game and the setting was the Pacific ocean during WW2. A number of sequels were released in the 19xx series. Titles include "1943: The Battle for Midway" andthe 2008 release of "1942: Joint Strike" on the Xbox Live network.
2. Capcom released a side scrolling platform game with a difference. The main character had an extendable appendage that came in useful when moving from one platform to the next. What was the name of this title featuring superhuman abilities?

Answer: Bionic Commando

In the game, "Bionic Commando" you took control of a solider of fortune who had a bionic attachment on his arm. The attachment allowed you to fire a grappling hook which you could use to reach platforms too far away to jump to. You also had a gun and lots of enemies to kill. Aside from that, this 1987 Capcom release had a limited appeal.

In 2009, Capcom released, on the PS3, another title of the same name.
3. This shoot-em-up also featured an unnamed solider. As you tried to stay alive behind an ever diminishing protective wall. The title of this side-to-side shooter sounded very like an Afghan city, but can you name this Capcom classic?

Answer: Cabal

This game was one of the earliest examples of a FPS. You could only move the character from one side of the screen to the other but you did have a protective wall to hide behind. Unfortunately, this wall could be damaged by enemy fire and would gradually be destroyed.

However, on the plus side, you did have limitless ammunition. This game was somewhat innovative due to its use of isometric views as opposed to a top down view like comparable games of its era (eg. "Ikari Warriors" and "Commando").
4. This game was a milestone in the side-scrolling beat-em-up genre. Featuring characters that would cross over to other titles, two of which were Cody and Guy. Can you name this iconic Capcom classic?

Answer: Final Fight

Released by Capcom in 1989, "Final Fight" was a one on one side scrolling fighting game. Similar to "Double Dragon" and "Golden Axe". The game allowed the player to choose from three fighters; Hagar, Cody and Guy. The game spawned two sequels; "Final Fight 2" and "Final Fight 3".

The main characters along with some of the unplayable enemy characters featured in other well known titles of the 1990s. For example, the characters Cody and Guy both appeared in "Street Fighter Alpha" series along with other characters from "Final Fight" such as Sodom and Rolento.
5. This Capcom release features a brave warrior trapped in a dungeon. However, along his journey he can collect coins which allow him to upgrade his weapons and armour. Can you name this darkly titled 1987 release from Capcom?

Answer: Black Tiger

In Japan, the title was known as "Black Dragon". The gameplay was a mixture of side-scrolling and vertical-scrolling action as well as mixing adventure with shoot-em-up action.
6. This top down vertically scrolling shooter released in 1985 was set in the wild wild west. Can you name this Capcom title?

Answer: Gun Smoke

The basic plot behind "Gun Smoke" was set around a bounty hunter named Billy Bob, whom the player controlled. The objective was for Billy Bob to make his way through each level in order to defeat the end of level boss and collect the bounty on their head. There were ten bosses in total as well as common enemies throughout each level.
7. This side scrolling beat-em-up allowed you to control a character as he sought revenge. Can you name the title of this game that brought you down a wild path?

Answer: Tiger Road

"Tiger Road" was released by Capcom in 1987. The game is a martial arts platform/beat-em-up style of game. The main character in the game has had it hard, his powers have been stolen along with his children and his secret scrolls. So, with all of this to motivate him he must use his martial arts skills to retrieve the scrolls, regain his powers and defeat the Dragon God in order to save his children. Phew, all that and he still finds time to wax his head.
8. This is probably Capcom's most famous title of all time. The original release featured eight characters who fought it out in one-on-one battles to become the champion of what?

Answer: Street Fighter II

"Street Fighter II" was released in 1991 and was a sequel to the 1987 release "Street Fighter". However, the comparisons between the two games begins and ends with the characters Ken and Ryu. "Street Fighter II" had eight playable characters to choose from and there were 4 computer controlled bosses also present in the game.

The "Street Figher II" series contains six distinct titles and as the series evolved more new characters appeared.
9. Capcom released this side scrolling beat-em-up in 1989. The player can choose from one of four Chinese generals. What is the name of this ancient Capcom title?

Answer: Dynasty Wars

The Japanese release of "Dynasty Wars" was known as "Tenchi wo Kurau". The gameplay is set during the Han Dynasty and the objective in each level is to free a province that has been taken over by rebel hordes. The game is a one or two player side scrolling beat-em-up/RPG. Capcom followed up with a sequel in 1992 called "Warriors of Fate".
10. In this 1985 Capcom game, you control the brave Sir Arthur as he faces up against the undead in order to save the Princess Prin Prin. Be careful and don't get it mixed up with its sequel. Can you name this spooky game?

Answer: Ghosts 'n Goblins

"Ghosts 'n Goblins" was a very popular platform game from the Capcom stable. The objective was to defeat a wide variety of zombies, ghouls, ghosts, ogres, demons etc in order to save the beautiful Princess Prin Prin. The game was so successful that Capcom brought out a sequel in 1988 called "Ghouls 'n Ghosts".

The titles were very similar in gameplay, the only difference being the plot and the types of baddies Sir Arthur faced. Both games had spin-offs in the years to come with titles such as "Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts" and "Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins".
