Answer: Halo 2

"Halo 2" was released on November 9, 2004. To improve the gaming experience, the developers at Bungie Studios decided to use a new game engine accompanied by improved graphics, smarter AI and new gameplay elements not seen before, like bladed weapons.

The game was incredibly well received, arguably more so than the original. Reputable gaming magazines and websites all gave the game a great rating. IGN gave the game a 9.8 out of 10, Game Informer and EGM all gave it a 10 out of 10 and Gamespot gave it a 9.4 out of 10.

Not only were the reviews great, the game won several gaming awards including "Excellence in Audio", "Console Game of the Year", "Sound Design" and "Best Console Game".
2. The sequel to Valve's 1998 hit-game, starring a scientist named Gordon Freeman, continued his story after he escaped the Black Mesa facility. Using a new graphics engine, every aspect of the original was improved. What game was this?

Answer: Half-Life 2

"Half Life 2" picked up where the original left off. After escaping Black Mesa and defeating the leader of the aliens, Gordon Freeman was put into stasis for nearly twenty years by the mysterious G-Man. When he woke up he found himself in an unknown city named "City 17". Soon enough, all Hell broke loose and Gordon was once again thrust into the role of the unlikely hero.

The graphics between the first and second games were greatly improved, as well as the physics engine demonstrated by the game's Gravity Gun.

The gun allowed players to pick up objects in the environment and launch them at enemies. The game was also incredibly well-received receiving at least a 90% average from most gaming critics like PC Gamer and IGN.
3. This controversial game, released by Rockstar North, took place in the 1990s and followed a gangster named Carl Johnson as he went on a quest to find his mother's killer. It earned further notoriety for a thing called the "Hot-Coffee Mod". What game was this?

Answer: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" outdid itself even in comparison to its previous incarnations. New gameplay elements such as exercise and eating were added to improve realism, as well as a land-mass multiple times larger than the entirety of "Vice City" before it.

The "Hot Coffee Mod" was a glitch in the game that required the player to procreate with the character's girlfriend's in-game girlfriends. It was never intended to be unveiled, but several PC patches and an over-use of cheat codes restored that mod to all of its intent.

The game was incredibly received, winning awards like "PlayStation 2 Game of the Year", "Best PlayStation 2 Action Game", "Best Story for PlayStation 2", "Game of the Year", "Best Action Game", "Best Soundtrack" and "Readers Choice Award- PlayStation 2 Game of the Year."
4. Using a revolutionary graphics engine, this game, by id Software, served as an atmospherically thrilling sequel to its hit first-person shooter from 1993. The game took the character through a military base and eventually led them to the underworld. What game was this?

Answer: Doom 3

"Doom 3" was a sequel that was thoroughly planned for many years. In reality the game was not actually a sequel but a stunning remake featuring amazing lighting effects and mixed levels of horror to frighten even the most weary gamer. Utilizing Dolby Digital Surround Sound, the game featured amazing sound effects, musical scores and dialog. Did you know that over 500 000 lines of script code were needed to create all of the extra background objects littered throughout the game? Regardless, the game was a walk-away hit, claiming at least 90% scores from gaming sources like "PC Gamer" and "Gamespy". "Doom 3" also won a gaming award for best graphics, in 2004.
5. 2004 was truly the year of sequels that weren't actually sequels. This game was a great example of that trend. Featuring a character that bore a stunning resemblance to "Solid Snake", this game took its token stealth action and shifted it into the jungle, more than 30 years before the original 3D game. What was this game?

Answer: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Despite the game's shift away from technology and high tech fortresses, the jungle setting made for some more entertaining stealth action. Now, the character could not only hide behind objects, he could hide in hollowed out tree logs, in water, in grass, or even in the treetops.

The game was also well received by its critics, receiving incredibly positive scores like 9.6 and 8.7 out of 10 from IGN and Gamespot respectively.
6. Help, Las Plagas are attacking! This frightening game is about a man named Leon Kennedy who is forced to battle intelligent zombies in a vibrant, yet somehow unnerving town somewhere in Portugal. Answer: Resident Evil 4

"Resident Evil 4" was produced by Capcom and originally released for the Nintendo Gamecube in 2005. The game was then ported onto the Playstation 2, PC and the Nintendo Wii. The biggest change to the "Resident Evil" franchise with the fourth installment was the camera/aiming system. No longer were all views from fixed angles, but the game was fully rendered in 3D. Aiming was also fixed whereby whenever a player wanted to fire, the view would be over the shoulder of the character creating less confusion and improving the ease of aiming.

The game received more than 70 awards for its tremendous quality, particularly "Game of the Year" from Spike TV's Game Awards, IGN, 2005 Golden Joatcik Awards, Gamespot, Edge Magazine, G4TV's X-Play and many more!

Multiple crash modes aimed at destroying as much as you could were pleasant extras to the game. What game was this?

Answer: Burnout 3: Takedown

"Burnout 3" was a hit game from 2004. Although it had two iterations before it, it managed to do what the others had never done before. First of all, the game improved the series' graphics. The original two games had nice graphics, however they were very plain and unexciting. "Burnout 3" raised the bar by creating beautiful environments where destruction was that much more fun.

The speed aspect was what turned on the most gamers. "Burnout" and "Burnout 2" were supposed to be fast games, but they never felt like they were that fast. "Burnout 3" was absolutely intent on bringing speed to the gamers. Cars could go hundred of miles an hour while everything around would become blurry. Crashes were that much more exciting when executed after an exhilarating top speed run.

It reached the Playstation 2 "Greatest Hits" list incredibly quickly following the game's positive reviews.
8. This game was released for the computer in late 2004. It was a strategy game aimed at recreating the legendary Roman army's battles with incredible detail. Using a breathtaking graphics engine and some incredible artificial intelligence the player could easily feel like they were on the front-line on some of those Roman battles. What game was this?

Answer: Rome: Total War

"Rome: Total War" was an impressive and well-received PC game released in September of 2004. The game was a run-of-the-mill strategy game where a player took control of an army and built towns and weapons to appease their people. What made the game extra special was that a large group of Roman factions were available to play as.

The addition of an impressive graphics engine made battles that much more epic. It was highly praised by PC Gamer receiving the award for "All time 2nd Best PC Game".
9. 2005 marked the release for the new generation of gaming, with the release of the Xbox 360. This game, one of the system's launch titles, was an incredibly impressive World War 2 game where the player could take control of the Russian army, the British army and the American army and journey over all of the war's infamous battlefronts. The game was also the highest selling launch title on the system. What game was this?

Answer: Call of Duty 2

"Call of Duty 2" was incredibly well-received at the time of it's launch primarily for its incredible graphics and open-ended gameplay. A player didn't have to travel down a linear path, they could run almost anywhere and get to their assigned destination. Gameplay was sharp, weapons were varied and the multiple campaigns gave some historical context on how different WWII was for every nation involved.
10. Another title release for the Xbox 360 was this fighting game by the Tecmo corporation. Like its previous iterations, this game broke all boundaries associated with a fighting game. Players could start fighting on a building and end up fighting at street level with cars as obstacles. Twenty-two playable characters and intense A.I. made the game a test to master. What was the name of this game?

Answer: Dead Or Alive 4

"Dead or Alive 4" represented the entire workhorse of Tecmo, built up specifically for the Xbox 360 release. Lead developer, Tomonobu Itagaki, specifically said that the company spent 99% of their efforts on the game so it would meet fan expectations. In the end, the reception was generally positive. "Game Rankings" for example, gave the game an 86% rating. Two problems plagued the game at release time. One was that files would erase if a player had more than one online account and the second was a logical error where player ranking were displayed as "1st, 2st and 3st". The first problem was promptly fixed but the second was never repaired.
