Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which James Bond video game marked the last appearance of Pierce Brosnan in the role of 007?

Answer: Everything or Nothing

This expensive-to-produce game for the Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2 platforms was one of the most popular Bond games released on a sixth-generation console. It featured numerous roles filled by the voices of popular stars (Pierce Brosnan, Heidi Klum, Willem Dafoe, etc) and it had high quality graphics compared to the other Bond games of the time. Up until that point, "Everything or Nothing" was the highest-selling James Bond title that was not based on a film in the 007 series.

It was developed by EA Canada.
2. Thanks to "Super Smash Bros. Melee", interest in the Ice Climbers was rekindled. The Ice Climbers are composed of Popo and which other character?

Answer: Nana

First released on the NES system in 1985, "Ice Climbers" was a popular platform game. Using a hammer, players could destroy ice blocks and advance up eight levels of sheer ice walls and block platforms. Along the way, the climbers are hindered by Topis and polar bears, and at the end (or the top) of the level, they have to finish off the oddly misplaced condor.

They reappeared in "Super Smash Bros. Melee" as a single character rolled into one.
3. Which of these is not one of Star Fox's allies?

Answer: Bumper

Although Bumper appeared in the Nintendo 64 favourite, "Diddy Kong Racing" (and the re-release known as "Diddy Kong Racing DS"), he did not play a role in the popular "Star Fox" series of games. The first "Star Fox" game was for the SNES, and though it had simplistic graphics, it was a very successful game. "Star Fox 64" as one of the earliest tiles for the Nintendo 64, and though it had fairly basic graphics compared to future games on the system, it was the most popular in the series. Games from this series have also appeared on the Gamecube and DS, and both Fox and Falco appeared in the "Super Smash Bros." series. Peppy Hare is the only ally to span the entire series while Slippy Toad and Falco Lombardi appeared in the second game. Pigma Dengar was also an ally in the original game, but joined Andross' side after being offered more money.
4. What video game character became the Sega Gaming Corporation's mascot in 1991?

Answer: Sonic

Sonic became Sega's most popular franchise after a series of side-scolling games propelled the company to the top. The first "Sonic the Hedgehog" game, released for the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive console allowed the system to dominate the market and surpass Nintendo, but future Sega consoles flopped and Sonic was ported to other systems (eg. "Sonic and the Secret Rings" for the Wii). Alex Kidd was Sega's mascot for a five year period before Sonic stepped in.
5. Which company made the original "Pong" game?

Answer: Atari

Over the years, Atari became a modestly-popular video game company releasing titles in the "Alone in the Dark" and "Driver" series. Also, they created "Neverwinter Nights", "Rollercoaster Tycoon 3", and numerous "Dragonball Z" games. Following the loss of Midway Games (a large arcade company), Atari rereleased many of its classic games such as "Pong", "Millipede", and "Battlezone".
6. Which survival-horror series uses the Pyramidhead character as an enemy?

Answer: Silent Hill

"Silent Hill" debutted in 1999 on the first Playstation console and since has produced many sequels and a feature film. The Pyramidhead character appeared in both the movie and the first sequel, "Silent Hill 2" where he and the town of Silent Hill represented James' feelings towards the death of his late wife.

His main weapon is a large knife which usually drags on the ground when he carries it.
7. What was the first game to usilize the DK Bongo controllers?

Answer: Donkey Konga

The release of "Dokey Konga" continued with two musical sequels (one of which was only released in Japan) as well as a full action-adventure game for the Gamecube, "Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat". Along with the idea of using one or both hands at the same time to hit the pair of bongos, players could also make use of a voice-activated control by clapping their hands (or simply making noise close to the device).

The Wii game "DK Bongo Blast" is a racing game that also uses the device.
8. For which system was the original "Metal Gear" game released?

Answer: NES

Released in North America in 1988, the original "Metal Gear" game was a high-ranking in regards to scores and it was followed by two seperate sequels: "Solid Snake" and "Snake's Revenge", the former being released only in Japan. Fans know that the actual "Metal Gear Solid" series didn't really begin until 1998 when the fourth "Metal Gear" game was released on the Playstation.

Another spin-off of the series, "Metal Gear Acid" was also created by Sony for the PSP handheld, but similar to "Ghost Babel", the title in the series for the Game Boy, it was only a side-story, and did not sell as many copies as titles in the rest of the series.
9. In the popular arcade game "Asteroids", players could shoot asteroids and which other objects?

Answer: UFOs

"Asteroids", possibly one of the most popular arcade games of all time, was first found in arcades around the world in 1979. Like "Pong", "Asteroids" was created by video gaming pioneer, Atari. When players shot the asteroids on the screen, they would break into two smaller bodies which would continue around the screen.

At points, the UFO, which could return fire at the player, would appear and add 1,000 points to a score if destroyed.
10. Combining some aspects that I've covered before, arcade and survival-horror, the "House of the Dead" series is the topic of this question. Was this game produced by Midway games?

Answer: No

"House of the Dead" was a Sega creation while Midway worked on the "Mortal Kombat" series. Using the arcade light gun to shoot the enemies on the screen, players had to defeat many undead and paranormal creatures to survive in the House of the Dead. Since its inital release, more than three sequels have been created, all following the same basic gameplay, and a few movies have been created (with the first being a loosely-based adaptation by critically panned director, Uwe Boll). Sadly, "House of the Dead" also suffered the fate of being transformed into a typing game called "The Typing of the Dead" (actually, there were two of these) where the player could fight zombies and learn how to type.

These were not successful.
