Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Darkshore rests on which body of water?

Answer: The Veiled Sea

Darkshore is the northwestern-most zone on the continent of Kalimdor although other zones rest off the shore of the landmass. Stretching along this top corner, the zone is filled with darkened forest areas as well as a gloomy oceanfront shoreline filled with aquatic enemies.

The Veiled Sea also borders Feralas, Desolace, and Ashenvale while Stonetalon Mountains and Silithus, the only other two zones to border the sea, are landlocked by mountain ranges and thus have no access to the waters. The Great Sea separates Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms while The Forbidden Sea is on the east end of the Eastern Kingdoms. Lake Elune'ara is in Moonglade.
2. What is the name of the only major town in Darkshore?

Answer: Auberdine

Auberdine is also the only flightpath location in this coastal zone. Because the town is Alliance-centric, Horde players have no location at which they can trade, set a hearthstone, or rest up, making any run through Darkshore much lengthier. Alliance players will find that Auberdine holds many of the expected traders and trainers, and for newer players coming from other locations, this may be the next step in the start of a long journey. Auberdine is primarily populated by Night Elves, as are most Alliance towns in northern Kalimdor.

The Fish Eye Tavern, in particular, is a nice place to rest.
3. A sacred area in the south of Darkshore is known as 'The Master's'...what?

Answer: Glaive

The Master's Glaive is as the name suggests, a giant glaive buried in the ground. The area is guarded by Twilight Disciples, part of the 'Twilight's Hammer' organization, so it's usually hostile to most players. No one knows the true origin of the giant armor piece, but according to Night Elf lore, it was dropped by one of their Ancients, and because of this it is a place of monumental importance to their race.

The Master's Glaive is to the west of the path which bisects the zone.
4. The Grove of Ancients contains which of these characters?

Answer: Onu

Onu will only appeal to Alliance questers out there who are still around the level 15/20 mark, otherwise you're either Horde and can't make any use of Onu (...so attack him. See how you do.) or you're too high a level to make use. Both of his quests that are given out will give reputation for Darnassus.

The Grove of Ancients is north up the main road in Darkshore, just north of the Master's Glaive (where his first quest will take you), but on the eastern side of the path. The remaining (incorrect) answers are all in Felwood.
5. Which area is further north?

Answer: Bashal'aran

Ameth'aran is about halfway through Darkshore's expanse on the east side of the path while Bashal'aran is north of Auberdine on the northern shore of the zone. Both areas are filled with magical creatures like wraiths, spirits, and satyrs, and the quests involving both areas will usually be about defeating a certain number of enemies or collecting dropped items.

In addition, both areas are thick in Night Elf lore, so those who wish to know more about the Ancients will find their appetites whetted at these locations.
6. The Ruins of Mathystra are occupied by what type of enemy?

Answer: Naga

Naga typically populate shorelines and watery areas, so their appearance at the Ruins of Mathystra on the northern edge of Darkshore is not out-of-place. According to quest-givers, the ruins were once prosperous as a town for Night Elves, but has since become a Naga hideout with the Night Elves moving south down the coast to the current settlement of Auberdine. Early versions of "World of Warcraft" used these ruins as the entrance to Blackfathom Deeps before they were moved to a different zone; this dungeon was released in a very early patch in the game's lifetime.
7. Darkshore is known to be a port zone because of the boats that take players around to different areas. Which of these locations does not connect to Darkshore by boat?

Answer: Ratchet

Ratchet is a Gnome city found on the eastern coast of Kalimdor in The Barrens. This city only connects with Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale on the tip of Eastern Kingdoms. Stormwind Harbor is near Stormwind City in Elwynn Forest (the home of new Human players), Rut'theran Village is near Darnassus on the island of Teldrassil to the northwest, and Valaar's Berth is outside Exodar on Azuremist Isle (the home of Draenei players). All of the boats here go back and forth between Alliance cities and nowhere else, but Horde players can use them to their advantage if they wish to explore all regions of the game.
8. Wildbend River is a continuation of which waterway?

Answer: Bloodvenom River

Bloodvenom River, found up the cliffside from Wildbend River, was created as a result of the Bloodvenom Falls in the adjacent region known as Felwood. This river snakes down into Darkshore and proceeds onwards, but never actually connects to the nearby sea, instead forming a small body of water at its base. Bloodvenom Falls is one of the known sources of corruption in Felwood, warping the plantlife and enemies in the surrounding woods.

While this doesn't seem to follow through to Darkshore, one can only assume some waterfall-purification-system...
9. Darkshore borders which region to the south?

Answer: Ashenvale

Although Ashenvale, a neutral level 20-ish zone, borders to the south of Darkshore and acts as one of the only ways in and out of the region on foot, Players can also connect to Felwood to the east. Bloodvenom Post, a Horde outpost in the westernmost reach of Felwood, rests on top of the cliffs which overlook Darkshore, and because of this, players can (if they're careful) jump down into this Alliance-centric zone.

Other than these two physically connected zones, Darkshore is also one of the only methods as to which players can reach the island zones to the west and northwest.
10. There are no instances in Darkshore.

Answer: True

Darkshore, which contains a relatively lower level range than most areas, does not contain any instanced dungeons whatsoever. The closest area of this type would be in Ashenvale where players can attempt to defeat the bosses in Blackfathom Deeps on the Zoram Strand.

This instance is right down the road from Darkshore and actually isn't that far of a walk from the zone's southern border. Blackfathom Deeps is ideal for players from level 20 onwars, so people just leaving Darkshore and attempting quests in Ashenvale should be in prime position to dive in.
