The Thai capital of Bangkok contains hundreds of temples, but the nation as a whole contains more than forty thousand of them. Sitting on the Chao Phraya River, this massive Southeast Asian capital is a treat for anyone looking for wall-to-wall religious architecture; you can barely turn a corner without finding another resplendent place of worship. Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen, found down some of the narrower waterways of Thon Buri, is home to a massive golden Buddha statue while Wat Suthat Thepwararam is considered one of Bangkok's most prestigious royal temples.

Vietnam's fourth-largest city, Can Tho is found west of Ho Chi Minh City, making it one of the nation's westernmost and southernmost population centres. Despite being highly-populated, Can Tho still retains a rural sensibility with most of its industries situated around the important Bassac River, a tributary of the Mekong and a lifeline for the region. Visitors are likely to find expansive floating markets along the riverbanks, extensive rice paddies in the outlying regions, and a mix of beautiful modern temples and timeless pagodas throughout.

The city of Amber (or Amer), is constructed in the low stretch between two hillsides, and up along the wall of the gorge is the Amber Fort, one of the main tourist attractions of the Rajasthan region, being, upon completion in the late 16th century, the royal home of the Rajput Maharajas. Overlooking the Amber Fort is another massive structure, Jaigarh Fort, which was designed to protect the former. Rajasthan is much larger than just this though, of course; it's the largest state of India, encompassing most of the Thar Desert, key Indus Valley sites, and tiger reserves, amongst other important locations.

Answer: Jaipur

Also known as the 'Pink City', Jaipur is part of India's Golden Triangle along with Delhi and Agra and it happens to be the Rajasthani capital, being an important (and large) hub for commerce and population in the region. Surrounded by hills as they give way to the Thar Desert, Jaipur is generally a very hot destination, but it shouldn't prevent visitors from playing the tourist and visiting sites like Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar. Gatore Ki Chhatriyan, specifically, was once the royal crematorium. Found in the hills, this ornately-carved tomb overlooks the sprawling city below and was built and used by Kachwaha leaders.

Answer: North Rhine-Westphalia

One of Germany's largest cities, Cologne sits in a highly-urbanized region that also encompasses the nearby cities of Bonn and Düsseldorf. Known best perhaps for its cathedral, one of the tallest of its kind in the world, the city is also a world-class hub for commerce and banking.

This said, visitors generally aren't there to open an account; they'd be there to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city including its numerous churches, its medieval fortifications, and the several crossings over the River Rhine.

Long considered to be a prime health-related getaway spot for rich Europeans, Lake Bled is a picturesque, radiant body of water found in northwestern Slovenia, close to the Austrian border. Sitting in amongst the Alps, this glacial lake is known not only for its relaxing resorts, but its placid waters (perfect for boating and rowing), its medieval castles, and the small island in its center, home to a small, well-preserved 17th century church.

The nearby town of Bled, nestled in the Karawank Mountains, has seen habitation since the Stone Age.

Found in the southwest of Slovenia, just outside of Ljubljana, the Postojna Cave system is part of a series of rocky caverns hidden in the woodlands as one approaches the Adriatic to the west. Naturally, the caverns are a major tourist destination as guests can trek through an extensive series of paths totalling more than twenty-four kilometres of passageways only a hundred meters below the Earth's surface. Because of the nature of some of these caverns, some are more acoustically-inclined than others; it's why it should come as no surprise that the Postojna Caves contain a concert hall, a massive subterranean chamber capable of fitting more than ten thousand listeners for symphonic performances.

Answer: Stockholm

Djurgården is a particularly frequented part of Stockholm if only because it's home to the Grona Lund amusement park, but that's not the only attraction there. You could also stop at everything from the ABBA Museum to the Viking Museum to the massive swath of natural parkland making up the island's eastern end as a national park.

The island, part of Stockholm's east-central expanse, is one of numerous (large and small) in the Swedish capital. Since Stockholm was constructed on an archipelago, it's comprised of segments connected by roads, boatways, and a complex metro below the waterways as they flow to the Baltic Sea.

The body of water located between Ireland and the rest of Britain, the Irish Sea is connects to the North Atlantic in the north and the Celtic Sea to the south, acting as a key shipping route that's been in use for centuries of trade in the British Isles.

Although Dublin is the only national capital on its coast, the Irish Sea is also home to the cities of Liverpool and Blackpool on the English side as well as the Isle of Man, right in the middle of the sea between Northern Island and Scotland. Dublin Bay, settled in more than six thousand years ago, is just one of the natural harbours along the coast here.

Though not the capital of Washington state, Seattle is its largest city and the main destination for those flying to the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Sitting on the edge of Puget Sound and with Lake Washington within its borders, Seattle is a fascinating spot geographically as it shares land with the water and the mountains, finding itself in a dynamic landscape appealing to international businesses and citizens looking for a big city without the hustle. Characteristic weather aside, it's also well-regarded for its natural beauty. Mount Rainier, in the Cascade Range, can be found to the southeast while the Canadian border is a short drive due north.
