Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The race's first Detour, held in Niagara Falls, had teams embarking on tasks at which landmark location?

Answer: Clifton Hill

After a harrowing Road Block along the side of Niagara Falls, teams had to proceed to Clifton Hill, Niagara's main tourist drag, to choose between 'Game Time' and 'Show Time'. In 'Game Time' (selected by Michael and Amari, Kevin and Gurleen, Brad and Sam, Julia and Olivia, Connor and John, Michael and Tyson, and Eva & Trystenne) racers had to play midway games at one of the strip's arcades, racking up enough tickets (four hundred) to trade for a clue.

In 'Show Time', Taylor and Katie, Lauren and Nicole, Colin and Matt, and Dorothy and Olus pursued a memorization challenge, learning facts about the Falls to recite to tourists.
2. The 'Palate Test' Detour task in Leg 2 had teams taste-testing which product on the Sunshine Coast?

Answer: Olive Oil

Visiting the town of Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast of B.C., racers had to test their tastebuds or their rhythm in either 'Palate Test' or 'Mallet Fest'. The former task had teams tasting olive oil and balsamic vinegar, using their own sense of taste to identify ten flavours (and mixes) based on those provided.

The latter, however, had teams learning how to play the marimba, receiving the proper percussion lessons and getting rhythm down for the local group of musicians known as the Knotty Dotters. Most teams completed 'Palate Test'.
3. Racers located the U-Turn Vote in which city in Leg 3?

Answer: Vancouver

For the first time in "The Amazing Race Canada", racers faced the U-Turn Vote when they reached Parker Place in Richmond, BC (part of Vancouver). Here, all racers were required to place a vote for another team to do both sides of the next Detour, which they wouldn't encounter until reaching Penticton in the proceeding leg. Additionally, the first team to reach the board would get a second vote to use as they wished; Colin and Matt ended up using this. Ultimately, when teams started their leg in Penticton, it was Kevin and Gurleen who received the most votes (seven total) due to their apparent aggressive strategizing.
4. In addition to receiving the U-Turn Vote in Leg 3, Kevin and Gurleen got to U-Turn a team for the proceeding Detour (in Leg 4). Who did they choose?

Answer: Julia and Olivia

After everyone cast their votes at the U-Turn Board in Vancouver, Kevin and Gurleen were revealed to be the recipients of the U-Turn in Penticton and they were told that they could U-Turn a fellow competitor as well. They chose their alleged allies, Julia and Olivia, to jointly complete both sides of the Detour. What they found was at the Dirty Laundry Vineyard in Summerland where teams could choose to complete a matching challenge hanging laundry on a line in the vineyard or stomp grapes to make juice for their next clue.
5. There was no Detour in Leg 5 (Saskatchewan/Manitoba).

Answer: True

In a leg that spanned three provinces and featured a double Road Block, racers did not encounter a Detour, making it their second such leg (after the third, taking teams to Vancouver) to avoid using this race mechanic. This being said, teams also ended up coming across "The Amazing Race Canada's" first-ever Switchback when they searched through grain trucks outside of Regina, Saskatchewan.
6. Which team used an Express Pass to avoid completing 'Frames' or 'Flames' Detour option in Leg 6?

Answer: Lauren and Nicole

With teams in possession of the Express Pass needing to use them by the end of Leg 6, racers only had so many opportunities left by the time the reached the Detour in the Guelph region of Southern Ontario. In a choice between glassblowing and replicating a photograph at a local art gallery, Lauren and Nicole showed up at the latter and used their Express Pass to breeze on by. For everyone else, racers either created a glass orb in a glassblowing studio (which most did), or they had to use extreme attention to detail to place themselves into a work of art.
7. Which of these is true about the Detour task found in Trois-Rivières, Quebec in Leg 7?

Answer: Each task was completed by an equal number of teams

The divide was split down the middle with three teams completing 'Paper Jam' and three completing 'Poetry Slam'.

In the former, racers had to learn how to make sheets of paper with pulp at a local museum, creating a sheet that could hold a small weight. Then, when they finished their papercraft, they could drive through Trois-Rivières to deliver paper to a local shopkeeper who would relinquish their next clue.

In the latter, teams instead had to memorize poems in English, French, and a third provided language (Portuguese, Romanian, or Arabic depending on the poem) with an audio transcriber to help with their phonetic pronunciation.
8. Both the 'Spend Some Coins' and 'Gird Your Loins' Detour options in Leg 8 (in Cornwall, Ontario) involved which local cultural event?

Answer: Highland games

Racers headed to Cornwall, Ontario in Leg 8 but drove to Maxville for their Detour, joining in at the annual Glengarry Highland Games to choose one of two Scottish tasks to complete. In 'Spend Some Coins', racers had to trade old English currency to get the proper denominations to purchase a serving of haggis while in 'Gird Your Loins', racers had to properly dress themselves in a traditional tartan and locate a matching outfit on the festival grounds.

While four teams went for the former task, only two completed the latter.
9. In Leg 9, teams who completed the 'Footwork' task had to learn two traditional dances. One was Irish, but from which country did the other originate?

Answer: The Philippines

In Miramichi, racers had to choose either 'Footwork' or 'Gumshoe' to test their minds and bodies. While 'Gumshoe' had teams using their brains to solve the mystery at a fake crime scene, 'Footwork' had them learning not one, but two dances related to Miramichi's summer festivals-- an Irish brush dance and a Filipino tinikling dance. Most teams elected to complete 'Gumshoe', but both Michael and Tyson and Lauren and Nicole went to 'Footwork'.
10. There was no Detour encountered in the race's final leg.

Answer: True

Although racers encountered two Road Blocks in the final leg of the competition, they didn't have a Detour in Leg 10. This meant that teams only came across seven Detour challenges over the course of their ten-leg race as there was none to be found in Legs 3, 5, and 10. With this in mind, there was a single U-Turn-- the U-Turn Vote-- in Leg 3 that was implemented in Leg 4.
