Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To start Leg 7, racers needed to take a train from Guelph, Ontario to which major Quebec city?

Answer: Montreal

Racers hopped on the VIA Rail train in Guelph and took a trip straight across the province to Quebec, getting off their ride in Dorval to visit Montréal-Trudeau International Airport. There, in the main terminal of the airport, racers found a clue box and were pointed to the AviaSim flight simulators where they needed to complete a simulated landing to get their next clue. Completion of the task would get them seats on one of two buses east to the town of Shawinigan.

In Shawnigan, teams would be let off at Ranch Dupont where they could feed the rescued camels and claim a key to their vehicles for the remainder of the leg. Their Detour would be inside the car.
2. During the 'Poetry Slam' Detour in Leg 7, racers had to learn a poem in how many different languages?

Answer: Three

Racers had to drive into Trois-Rivières to pick a Detour task, and each one required some very difficult skills to master. In 'Paper Jam', racers headed to the Musée Boréalis where they made paper the old-fashioned way. Once they had a thick-enough sheet which, when dried out, could support a small weight, they could pick up a ream of paper and drop it off at a local shop to trade for their next clue. In 'Poetry Slam', racers visited Parc Champlain and picked one of three poems available to them. They then had to memorize and recite the poem in English, French, and and other provided language (Portuguese, Romanian, or Arabic) to collect their next clue.

Colin and Matt, Lauren and Nicole, and Kevin and Gurleen finished 'Poetry Slam' while Michael and Tyson, Michael and Amari, and Taylor and Katie completed 'Paper Jam'.
3. Racers encountered a Face Off in Trois-Rivières, playing which Canadian sport or game?

Answer: Curling

Leaving the Detour, racers were hit with the first Face Off they'd encountered on the race course, and this one was a Switchback (the second of such during this season). For this task, racers needed to get themselves to the Club de Curling Trois-Rivieres and get in line to go head-to-head in a game of curling. Learning as they went, teams had to send out eight rocks each, and whichever team had the rock closest to the button could continue racing.

The last team remaining had to wait out an hourglass.
4. Who completed the horse-riding Road Block in Trois-Rivières in Leg 7?

Answer: Matt

Following the Road Block, racers needed to drive themselves to the École d'Art Équestre Beauvallon. There, the selected racers needed to saddle up and not only ride a horse, but perform five different, tricky, acrobatic stunts while atop it, properly executing them without falling off or faltering. If they could nail all five, the trainer would hand over their last clue for the leg. Lauren, Kevin, Matt, Michael, Michael, and Katie completed this task.
5. When teams checked into the Pit Stop in Trois-Rivières (in Leg 7), they were told to keep on racing. Which team arrived first?

Answer: Lauren and Nicole

Teams who cleared out the horse-riding Road Block were handed their last clue for Leg 7 and told to find the Pit Stop waiting for them at the top of the observation tower at La Cité de l'Énergie in the city of Shawinigan, Quebec, forty miles to the north. Lauren and Nicole managed, after five earlier legs with second place finishes, to clinch their first win when they landed on the mat, taking with them a trip for two to Holland courtesy of Expedia (and $10,000 CAD to accompany it).

Though Taylor and Katie placed first in Leg 6, they dropped to the back of the pack in Leg 7. Fortunately for them, Jon informed the pair that they'd arrived at a keep-on-racing Pit Stop. They were given their next clue and, like the other teams, told to keep going.
6. Racers had to find tokens at Saputo Stadium, claiming tickets on the train to what Ontario city in Leg 8?

Answer: Cornwall

Heading into Leg 8, racers were taken back to Montreal by bus and dropped off at Stade Saputo. There, all six teams needed to search the seats for two tokens, one being a Chevrolet logo and the other being a CF Montreal logo. The catch was that they needed to match the colours on each; if they got the wrong combo, they would have to trade with other racers to get the matching ones. Once they traded the proper tokens in, they would be able to get their train tickets to head westward to Cornwall, Ontario, collecting their next clue in their waiting vehicles.
7. Racers encountered a Switchback in Leg 8 and had to search amongst which of these in Apple Hill, Ontario?

Answer: Manure

Arriving in Cornwall, teams needed to drive themselves to the basement museum of hockey fan Thom Racine who, amongst numerous items of memorabilia, would have hockey pucks with the teams' faces on them. They could then use this puck to play a game of street hockey with local kids, scoring a goal to get their next clue.

Once they shot and scored, racers could drive themselves to Apple Hill, Ontario to find the alpaca pen at Split Rock Farms. There, racers would have to face a Switchback based on a task from "The Amazing Race Canada 2" in which they needed to find a clue in a bottle in a pile of alpaca poop.
8. Which team used the Blind Double Pass in Leg 8?

Answer: Taylor and Katie

At Split Rock Farms, racers not only searched the manure pile, but had to step in front of another Blind Double Pass, facing the possibility of holding back a later team to keep ahead. Taylor and Katie arrived there earliest, using the Pass to hold back Kevin and Gurleen. Kevin and Gurleen, in a matter of self-preservation, used the Pass to hold back Michael and Tyson.

Once this business was completed, racers could drive to the town of Maxville for their Detour task, a choice between two taking place at the Glengarry Highland Games.
9. Which Detour option, encountered at the Highland Games in Leg 8, was completed by more teams?

Answer: 'Spend Some Coins'

In 'Spend Some Coins', racers had to use a pouch of old English currency and, meeting with other event-goers wearing currency sporrans, trade for the proper change to order a serving of haggis from a local vendor. Kevin and Gurleen, Colin and Matt, Lauren and Nicole, Michael and Tyson, and Michael and Amari all took this option. For 'Gird Your Loins', teams needed to tuck and fold a fifteen-foot piece of cloth into a traditional Scottish tartan kilt.

Then they had to find the same tartan worn by a guest at the event to get their next clue. Only Taylor and Katie completed this one.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race at the end of Leg 8, ending their game in sixth place?

Answer: Michael and Amari

After the Detour, racers had one last order of business in South Stormont requiring that they head to the Lost Villages Museum, hop into a clear-bottom kayak, and collect one final clue from the waters of the St. Lawrence River that would direct them to their next Pit Stop, waiting along the ten kilometre stretch of roadway known as the Long Sault Parkway.

Taylor and Katie pushed ahead of the other teams all leg and managed to go from worst to first, winning first place and an Expedia trip for two to Thailand (along with $10,000 of spending money). Father and son Michael and Amari, unfortunately, struggled coming into the Detour and were unable to pull out of the back of the pack. They were eliminated in sixth.
