Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Searching through grain trailers in the start of Leg 5, teams had to locate a toy shaped like which of these?

Answer: Waffle

Leaving Penticton, B.C. at the start of Leg 5, racers had to fly to Regina, the capital city of Saskatchewan, for an unexpectedly long leg of the race that would take them much further than they expected. After travelling to Avena Foods, racers encountered a Switchback, a task that was previously encountered in the very first season of "The Amazing Race Canada". For this, teams had to hop into a grain trailer and, digging through fifteen metric tons of harvested oats, search for a small waffle toy they could trade for their next clue...and a breakfast reservation for the following morning.
2. At the Hotel Saskatchewan in Leg 5, racers dined on which of these to start the day off?

Answer: Meat

The morning after the Switchback, racers were driven back into Regina for the evening and asked to wake up bright and early for breakfast at the Hotel Saskatchewan. For this task to kick off their travel adventure, racers had to pick and choose between one of two dishes to consume before heading on their way: a plate of pig brains, or a few bison testicles. If racers could complete their delicacies, they could get their next clue. Colin and Matt managed to draw the Desjardins Assist for this task, skipping the chosen meal by allowing themselves to eat anything from the hotel menu instead.
3. For the first Road Block in Leg 5, completed in Saskatchewan, racers had to complete trials for which sport?

Answer: Canadian football

Leaving the Hotel Saskatchewan, teams ripped open a Road Block clue requiring that they take a taxi to Mosaic Stadium and select one team member to enjoy 'a good playlist'. For this challenge, the selected racer needed to join the Saskatchewan Roughriders by memorizing a dozen football plays in the locker room. When they were ready, they then had to join the team on the field and execute one of those plays as called out by the coach. If they could run the correct play to score the touchdown, they could get their next clue. Amari, Sam, Lauren, Matt, Michael, Julia, Gurleen, and Taylor completed this task.

After this task, teams discovered that they needed to head to the Kreos Aviation Terminal at Regina Airport to fly east on one of two flights to Russell, a small town in Manitoba, where they could walk to Millennium Park and get their next clue.
4. The dance team members needed to learn for the Road Block in Russell, Manitoba (in Leg 5) was from which country?

Answer: Ukraine

Reaching Millennium Park in Russell, Manitoba, teams needed to use numbers found in their previous clues to unlock a box containing a puzzle sponsored by Kids Help Phone. If racers could solve the puzzle provided, they could receive a Road Block clue that would have them proceed, on foot once again, to Russell's Main Street to 'go for a spin'. Michael and Tyson, who had one of the three Express Passes, used theirs to skip the puzzle.

For this Road Block, the racers who did not complete the football Road Block (Olivia, Colin, Nicole, Katie, Kevin, Tyson, Michael, and Brad) needed to join locals to learn the choreography of a traditional Bukovynian-style Ukrainian dance, performing it for the town to get last clue of the leg.
5. Which team was eliminated in Manitoba at the end of Leg 5?

Answer: Brad and Sam

If teams could knock out the complex Ukrainian choreography onstage in the middle of Russell, they would get one last clue to end off this lengthy race and they would be able to find Jon and his mother at the Pit Stop after taking a taxi to Asessippi Ski Area & Resort. If they could find the vine chapel there, they could get their placement.

Julia and Olivia, who surged ahead throughout the leg, landed on the mat first to claim a win and a trip to Italy courtesy of Expedia (and $10,000 CAD of spending money). They were followed in second and third by the remaining all-women teams (Lauren and Nicole and Taylor and Katie, respectively). Brad and Sam, who fell behind upon landing in Russell, checked in on the mat in last place and were eliminated in eighth place.
6. What word did racers need to spell when they completed the Boost-themed Road Block at Elora Quarry (in Leg 6)?

Answer: NUTRITION

Racers were returned to Regina to commence Leg 6 of the race and, from there, took off on a flight to Toronto, landing to find clues that would send them to the city of Guelph. It was there, at the McCrae House, that racers could have a moment of solemn remembrance at the WWI memorial before cracking open a next clue, a Road Block.

For this Road Block, racers drove out to the Elora Quarry and completed a challenge that required they be 'letter-perfect'. There, Julia, Michael, Gurleen, Katie, Amari, Colin, and Lauren hopped into canoes to collect cans of Boost Energy Drinks from the water then, after scaling a 90-foot rope ladder to the top of the quarry, they had to unscramble a word puzzle to spell 'NUTRITION'. This would let them get their next clue.
7. Which of these race mechanics did players encounter in Leg 6?

Answer: Double Pass

Leaving Elora Quarry, racers had to head into town and find the Jack R. MacDonald Bridge to face off against the race's first Double Pass board (and a Blind one at that). Here, racers could anonymously select a later team, forcing the pair to wait for the next team to arrive before continuing on with the race. Taylor and Katie were the first to use this race mechanic, forcing Kevin and Gurleen to wait for the next team to show up. Kevin and Gurleen ended up using the board as well in an effort to protect themselves, forcing Lauren and Nicole to wait.

After this, teams drove to the Wellington County Museum and Archives in Fergus, Ontario and searched through hundreds of articles on microform for one discussing the race. They could use that to get their next clue.
8. Which Detour task was selected by a majority of teams in Leg 6?

Answer: 'Flames'

Remaining in the region for a Detour task, racers needed to ingratiate themselves into the local art community by selecting either 'Frames' or 'Flames'.

In 'Frames', teams headed to the Elora Centre for the Arts and were presented with a painting in the gallery. Using this painting, they had to recreate the piece (from memory) using a staging area and provided props. If they could replicate it, they'd keep racing.

In 'Flames', racers made their way to the Kitras Art Glass Studio where, after a demonstration, they had to work together to shape a blob of molten glass into a solid orb.

Michael and Amari, Michael and Tyson, Taylor and Katie, and Julia and Olivia chose 'Flames' while
Lauren and Nicole, Kevin and Gurleen, and Colin and Matt chose 'Frames'. Lauren and Nicole, arriving early to 'Frames', used their Express Pass to skip completing it.
9. The final Express Pass remaining in the race was used during the final Road Block in Leg 6. Which team used it, skipping the wrestling challenge in Guelph?

Answer: Michael and Amari

Completion of the Detour gave teams another Road Block for this leg, sending them to Guelph's Dublin Street United Church to 'meet their match'. In this task, the racer who did not complete the Elora Quarry Road Block was required to hop into the ring, dressing up and training with local wrestlers to learn a ten-move routine to perform in front of a live audience. If they could get all ten moves correct in succession and pin the pro the could get their next clue. Michael and Amari, required to use their Express Pass by the end of the leg, decided to use it to avoid having Michael complete the challenge.
10. Which team was eliminated in Guelph at the end of Leg 6?

Answer: Julia and Olivia

If racers got through the final Road Block of their gruelling sixth leg of the race, they could proceed to the next Pit Stop mat waiting for them at the University of Guelph Arboretum. Taylor and Katie, bolstered by a final Road Block in their wheelhouse, breezed to their first victory of the race and claimed an Expedia prize package for two sending them to Iceland (along with a $10,000 CAD stipend).

Though they placed first in the previous leg, Julia and Olivia fell behind during the glassblowing Detour and dropped to last place. They were subsequently eliminated in seventh place, leaving six to keep competing.
