Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I want to have one more question on the season 1 episode "11001001." Most of you will remember the lovely Minuet created by the Bynars on the holodeck of the Enterprise. Which actress guest starred as Minuet? I am also giving you clues in the form of names of other shows or movies these actresses were in.

Answer: Carolyn McCormick ("Law & Order"; "Spencer for Hire")

Yes, the lovely Minuet was portrayed by Carolyn McCormick. You may remember her as Dr. Elizabeth Olivet in "Law & Order" and Rita Fiore in one season of "Spenser for Hire." The other actresses appeared in different episodes of "Star Trek: TNG." Bebe Neuwirth played a female Malcorian nurse who had the hots for Riker in the episode "First Contact." Famke Janssen played the beautiful and alluring Kamala, an empathic metamorph, in the episode "The Perfect Mate." You may know her best as Dr. Jean Grey in the "X-Men" movies. Teri Hatcher, a lieutenant in the transporter room, was charmed by Captain Thadium Okona in the episode "The Outrageous Okona."
2. This first season episode shares its name with a Class M planet in the Beta Cassius system. Which item below is both the complete title of an episode and the name of a planet? I see a clue is needed for this question. OK here it is: Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, wife of Gene Roddenberry, guest starred for the first time in this episode as Deanna's mother.

Answer: Haven

If you chose Angel, it is not the right answer because the full title of the episode and the name of the planet is Angel One. "Encounter at Farpoint" was the pilot episode of "Star Trek: TNG" and the name of the planet on which Farpoint station was located is Deneb IV. The planet in the episode "Justice" was Rubicun III.

Hopefully my clue helped you with this question. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry was the ever colorful Lwaxana Troi and her first appearance on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was in the episode "Haven."
3. It was revealed that all members of the wedding party had to sing during Deanna and Wyatt's upcoming wedding ceremony.

Answer: False

No, they had to be naked! In a traditional Betazoid wedding all present at the ceremony had to be naked, including the guests. Lwaxana really liked to aggravate Wyatt's mother, Victoria, by saying shocking things such as Victoria's husband was thinking he would like to see her (Lwaxana) naked. Wyatt was human so Victoria, his mother, wanted Captain Picard to perform a traditional Earth wedding but of course Lwaxana wanted a Betazoid wedding conducted by Mr. Homn. Lwaxana explained to Tasha everybody being naked at the wedding was a tribute to the love being celebrated. Lwaxana liked to shock people a lot with the things she said.
4. The Tarellians traveled in a spaceship to a planet known far and wide for its peace and beauty but were not welcomed. Why were the Tarellians not welcome on any planet?

Answer: They were carriers of a deadly disease that had wiped out most of their own population.

The eight on the Tarellian ship were the last survivors of a destroyed world, the rest who had been on board died in the years it took to reach Haven. The Tarellian vessel came at a great surprise to the crew of the Enterprise for it was thought there were no living souls left alive from their planet.

A terrible biological weapon was used by one of the warring factions of the planet Tarella but in the end all people on the planet were infected and those who tried to escape the planet to travel to other planets doomed them as well. Because of this, Tarellian space vessels were hunted down and destroyed.
5. When meeting Deanna for the first time Wyatt was somewhat surprised because she was not what he had expected.

Answer: True

This is true because Wyatt since he was young had been imagining and dreaming about a different person. Even as a child, he thought he heard her voice calling to him and assumed it was Deanna since she was Betazoid. It turns out the woman he had been imagining was on the Tarellian ship and she had been dreaming about him too since they were children.

Wyatt beamed over to the Tellarite ship with medical supplies in order to find a cure for them-he felt it was his destiny to help. He saw Ariana's drawings of him just like he made drawings of her. The real reason the Tellarites had come to the planet Haven was because they knew Wyatt would be there just as Ariana had predicted.
6. In the episode "Datalore" when the away team located a hidden secret lab on the planet Omicron Theta, they found children's drawings. What were these drawings depicting?

Answer: Colonists being attacked by and running away from the Crystal Entity.

Though the colony on Omicron Theta had once supported rich farmland, when they away team beamed down to the colony Riker reported no insects or even soil bacteria could be found. Omicron Theta was a dead planet.

The drawings depict something only vaguely familiar and dangerous to Data and the away team had no idea either what they drawings were of since they did not know about the Crystal Entity yet.
7. ("Datalore") Which of the following was NOT one of the ways Data and Lore were different?

Answer: The type of brain each had.

Both Data and Lore had positronic brains so the answer "The type of brain each had" is the correct choice since the question asks which of the following is NOT one of the ways Lore and Data were different.

Brent Spiner did an excellent job portraying the completely opposite personalities of Data and Lore. Lore, android or not, sure gave me the creeps he was so sinister, despicable and deceitful. Lore drugged Data, deactivated him, and then kicked him in the head repeatedly. Next Lore, pretended to be Data, and tried to destroy all on the Enterprise by contacting the Crystal Entity, just like he had on Omicron Theta.

To fool the crew, Lore even used a device to make Data have a facial twinge and fixed his own. Wesley was not fooled and though the captain and bridge officers would not pay attention to him, he got his mother, Dr. Crusher, to listen to him and to reactivate Data who then could stop Lore. Lore and Data fought and then Wesley beamed Lore into space at Data's prompting.
8. ("Datalore") After the colonists complained about Lore to Dr. Soong because they were frightened of him though he claimed they were envious, what did Lore probably do?

Answer: Communicated with the Crystal Entity so it would attack Omicron Theta.

Lore explained to Data the colonists were jealous of him because he was so perfect so they had requested Dr. Soong make a less perfect android. Most likey they were afraid of Lore, as evidenced by how he acted on the Enterprise.

Even after Data was rendered unconscious by Lore, Lore went on explaining how he had "earned" the Crystal Entity's gratitude by giving away the location of the colonists on Omicron Theta to it. The Crystal Entity was a powerful, and dangerous lifeform which fed on all forms of life and had destroyed every living thing on entire planets.
9. ("Arsenal of Freedom") The inhabitants of the planet Minos tragically and unintentionally killed themselves when the very weapons system they built and were selling destroyed them.

Answer: True

A recorded image of a weapons salesman greeted the Enterprise saying, "we live by the motto 'peace through superior firepower.'" This loquacious image had a whole spiel of slogans intended to convince potential customers to buy weapons from them. Another one was "to be totally armed is to be totally secure."

The salesman projection called the weapon attacking them the pinnacle of weapons technology, unstoppable, and "the perfect killing system." Not only did the system have components that operated on the surface of a planet and in and in orbit, it was adaptable and could gather intelligence.

The away team to the planet Minos find weapons still very much active and they almost do not survive. Dr. Crusher was also seriously injured when she and the captain fell down a very deep hole.
10. ("Arsenal of Freedom") How does Picard finally get the automated weapons to be deactivated on the planet Minos?

Answer: He told the weapons dealer projection he would buy the weapons.

Picard at first wanted Data to change the weapon's targeting system to target itself or its power supply but did not follow through when Data explained the explosion would kill the away team on the planet and the underground shelter they were in.

Crusher was the one who reasoned that since a machine was controlling the weapons on the planet there must be a way to turn it off. When the salesman objected to being told to shut off the machine because the captain had not seen all the weapon system could do, Picard said they had seen enough and would buy the weapon. The salesman was then willing to shut down the weapons demonstration on the surface, just in time to save the away team. Meanwhile, LaForge in command of the Enterprise's battle bridge was able to destroy the weapon that had attacked the Enterprise.
