Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This season of the race commenced in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but at which landmark?

Answer: Plaza de Mayo

At the start of this celebrity season of the race, Beau met eleven teams at the starting line in Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital. There, at Casa Rosada in Plaza de Mayo, he started them off on a race around the world for charity wherein the first team to cross the finish line would take a $100,000 AUD for the organization of their choice.

Racers were given the go and rushed to grab their bags, their leg money, and their first clues across the plaza, and with that, they headed out on foot to locate the Obelisco de Buenos Aires to catch a cab.
2. At the start of Leg 1, racers had to count which of these, belonging to the paseadores de perros of Buenos Aires?

Answer: Dogs

Once teams located their cabs they directed their drivers to the Recoleta neighbourhood, locating Plaza Intendente Alvear and the statue of Atlas holding up a tree next to Gomero de la Recoleta, the oldest tree in the city. Teams ripped open the clue here to find their first active task, and for this, they had to find four local paseadores de perros-- dog walkers. Once they counted up the number of dogs that they were walking, a total of thirty-five between the four of them, they could trade that number for a Detour clue in the hands of a judge waiting on a nearby park bench.
3. Racers completing the 'National Dance' Detour option in Buenos Aires had to learn which famous Argentine dance?

Answer: Tango

Completion of the dog-walker task allowed teams to receive their Detour clue, a choice between 'National Dance' and 'National Sandwich'.

In 'National Dance', racers headed to Casal de Catalunya to learn the Argentine tango. In one of the oldest theatres in the city, they needed to pair up with instructors and perform the choreography onstage to get their next clue. In 'National Sandwich', they could head to Plaza Dorrego to make two dozen choripánes combining chorizo, chimichurri, salsa, and bread to make the delicious treats.

Nat and Mel, Bam Bam and Logan, Havana and Steph, Brooke and Adam, and Luke and Julie went dancing while Chloe and Emily, Thorpie and Christian, Jett and Lily, Pete and Bridget, Billy and Oscar and Cyrell and Eden made the sandwiches.
4. To end off Leg 1, racers had to learn the football chant for what famous Buenos Aires team?

Answer: Boca Juniors

Teams who completed the Detour needed to take taxis to Caminito in the La Boca Neighbourhood to locate their next task. There, racers had to join the local football fans in reciting a La Boca football chant, singing the lyrics in Spanish. After watching a performance, they could sing the chant to a judge to collect their next clue. If they could do this, they could take cabs to Silos Puerto Madero to get one step closer to the Pit Stop.
5. Which team was eliminated in Buenos Aires at the end of Leg 1?

Answer: Luke and Julie

As the leg came to an end, racers pulled up at Silos Puerto Madero and made their way, on foot, to the Centro Cultural Kirchner, or the Libertad Palace, to locate Beau and their first Pit Stop. Here, a strong performance from Chloe and Emily locked in their first place finish, granting them an upgraded stay in a hotel suite for their Pit Stop.

Although Cyrell and Eden were the last to locate the Pit Stop mat, Luke and Julie took a thirty minute penalty for failing to complete the 'National Dance' Detour. It allowed all other teams to check in earlier and the mother and son were sent home in eleventh place.
6. Heading to Salta, Argentina in Leg 2, racers took which unexpected means of transportation upon their arrival?

Answer: Cable car

After the first Pit Stop, racers were loaded into buses and taken fifteen hundred kilometres from the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires to the northern city of Salta. Opening their clues at the start of Leg 2, racers had to hop into cabs that would drive them to the top of Cerro San Bernardo. From there, they would need to catch a cable car from the top, 1,500 metres above the city, down to their Road Block in Parque San Martin at the bottom of the mountain.
7. In the race's first Road Block, team members had to match an outfit and then which of the following accessories on a Carnival dancer in Salta?

Answer: Medallion

Reaching Parque San Martin, racers encountered their first Road Block of the race, a task that only one team member could complete. For this one, the selected racer had to like a fancy dress, using their powers of perception to look through a parade of carnival participants for one wearing a pattern on their outfit that matched a provided swatch. When they got it right, they needed to memorize the medallion of their particular wearer, pointing out the right one for a judge to get their next clue.

Steph, Chloe, Bam Bam, Oscar, Christian, Jett, Cyrell, Pete, Nat, and Brooke completed this task.
8. Teams completing the 'Soft Touch' Detour task in Salta in Leg 2 had to collect milk from which of these animals?

Answer: Goat

Racers completing the Road Block received their Detour clue next and had to drive to Finca La Huella in the town of Vaqueros to start one of two challenges, each with limited spaces for teams. Their choice: 'Soft Touch' or 'Strong Stomach'. In 'Strong Stomach', racers enjoyed a gaucho feast-- a full roasted cow head (or cabeza guateada); team members had to finish the whole head. In 'Soft Touch', racers had to milk enough goats to gather two kilos of milk.

'Strong Stomach' was selected by Bam Bam and Logan, Billy and Oscar, Pete and Bridget, Havana and Steph, and Jett and Lily while 'Soft Touch' went to Chloe and Emily, Brooke and Adam, Mel and Nat, Thorpie and Christian, and Cyrell and Eden.
9. Leg 2 (in Salta, Argentina) featured which rare race mechanic?

Answer: Intersection

Once teams completed the Detour, they needed to drive onward to the town of San Lorenzo to find Finca Lesser Horse Ranch. Upon arriving, racers had to saddle up, dress up, and perform as gauchos on horseback, but it wasn't until they showed up that they discovered that they would be intersected for the task.

In effect, teams had to partner with another team to get the job done, with frontrunners having to wait for those behind them to commence the task. Once teams performed the riders' choreography as a foursome, they could get their next clue and the Intersection would end.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Salta at the end of Leg 2?

Answer: Nat and Mel

Racers who finished the gaucho routine were given one last clue and split up from their Intersection to drive themselves to the race's second Pit Stop, Dique Campo Alegre in La Caldera at the foot of the Inca Trail. Bam Bam and Logan dominated the leg and stayed at the top with enough of a cushion to win first place this leg.

Although Jett and Lily took an hour-long penalty for opting out of the 'Strong Stomach' Detour, they landed on the mat in eighth place. Instead it was Nat and Mel, who drove an hour in the wrong direction from the Detour, who were unable to pull out of last at the end. They were eliminated in tenth place after a footrace to the mat with their Intersection partners, Cyrell and Eden.
