Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To kick off their third leg in Argentina, teams had to create which of these in the town of Purmamarca?

Answer: Bricks

After Leg 2, the remaining nine teams were brought deeper into northwestern Argentina to the Inca Trail, commencing their third leg on Ruta Nacional 9. From here, racers had to drive themselves to Estacionamiento Municipal to locate Fábrica de Ladrillos, and there, they could join locals in creating adobe bricks, needed to build the region's high-altitude houses. If they could follow the demonstration and make eighteen adobe bricks they could get their next clue.
2. Which team did not complete the 'Walk Like an Incan' Detour task in Leg 3?

Answer: Bam Bam and Logan

Following the brick task, racers received a Detour task that sent them deeper into the Andes in Purmamarca. For their first option racers could choose 'Walk Like An Incan', which had them making a delivery into the mountains. To start, racers had to head to the top of a mountain trail to collect a number of items that they would have to carry on their backs in provided aguayos. Then, they had to proceed down the trail from the summit, delivering their provisions to a shop along the Paseo de los Colorados. They could trade them for the next clue.

Chloe and Emily, Thorpie and Christian, Billy and Oscar, and Cyrell and Eden took the walk to finish this task.
3. For the 'Dress Like an Incan' Detour task in Purmamarca, Argentina, racers had to outfit themselves as gauchos.

Answer: False

Teams who didn't want to take the walk could instead 'Dress Like an Incan' for their Detour, heading to the market outside of Iglesia Santa Rosa de Lima. There, racers had to search through the market and find the marked stall of folkloric ekeko statues. Using only provided 'wish' items and lengths of string given in advance, teams had to properly tie all of the trinkets to the doll to match an example. If they could get the items into the right spots, they could get their next clue.

Bam Bam and Logan, Pete and Bridget, Havana and Steph, Jett and Lily, and Brooke and Adam went to market.
4. Which of these prompts helped teams decide who was to complete the llama Road Block in Leg 3?

Answer: 'Who wants to be the leader of the pack?'

Heading out from their Detours, racers had to rip open their Road Blocks and determine who wanted to be the leader of the pack. For this, teams drove out to the Caravana de Llamas in Tilcara, Argentina, and there the selected teammate needed to dress a provided llama then take it on its long walk through the nearby valley to the finishing point to get their next clue. Chloe, Bam Bam, Jett, Bridget, Havana, Adam, Christian, Cyrell, and Oscar completed this task.
5. Which team was the last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 3, begin eliminated in ninth place?

Answer: Cyrell and Eden

Completing the Road Block, teams were told to drive into Tilcara proper, parking their vehicles at Hostal La Casa Del Puente. From there, they could proceed on foot to their next Pit Stop at the Pucará de Tilcara, a fortified Inca outcropping overlooking the valley below. Chloe and Emily overtook Bam Bam and Logan on the footrace to the Pit Stop and took their second win of the race, claiming a luxury hotel stay for the evening before their journey to a new country.

At the back of the pack it was Cyrell and Eden who checked in last after the llama task, ending up eliminated in ninth place.
6. Racers commenced Leg 4 getting off the plane in South Africa whereupon they had to take the train into what city?

Answer: Johannesburg

The eight remaining teams were flown from Argentina to the southern reaches of Africa, landing outside of Johannesburg, South Africa. Given their first clue as they headed out from the airport, racers had to make their way to the train station and pick up tickets that would take them to Jo'burg's Park Station, the largest train station in Africa.

It's there, in the middle of the station, that they would find their next clue box.
7. Teams completing the 'Healer' Detour task in Leg 4 had to learn item names in which South African language?

Answer: Zulu

Teams making it to Park Station opened their Detour clues and had to make a choice. One of these, 'Healer', had them travelling to the Kwa Mai Mai Traditional Market to set up a stall for a local healer known as a nganga. In order to do this, racers had to pack and prepare everything on their mat and then place everything, properly, on the shelves per the locals' labels. The catch was that all the items on the shelves were labelled in Zulu, so teams had to identify them properly to get their next clue.

Bam Bam and Logan, Chloe and Emily, Havana and Steph, and Pete and Bridget went to market.
8. Teams who went into the 'Styler' Detour task in Leg 4 had to sew a dashiki and what other item to get their next clue?

Answer: Tote bag

If teams didn't want to head to the market, they could choose 'Styler' for their Detour option, visiting London House in the Johannesburg fashion district. Using their sewing skills, and a machine (of course), one racer had to sew dashiki top and the other, using a thread and needle, had to sew a matching tote bag by hand. Once the designer approved of their finished pieces, they could get their clue and keep racing.

Jett and Lily, Thorpie and Christian, Brooke and Adam, and Billy and Oscar took this task.
9. Visiting Diagonal Street in Leg 4, some racers had to do which of these for their Road Block?

Answer: Eat local street food

Racers who headed out from the Detour received their Road Block clue next, and for this, the selected teammate had to 'walk the walk and talk the talk'. The hint didn't necessarily beget the task as teams had to take their cabs to Diagonal Street and the competing racer needed to indulge in local Jo'burg street food. Havana, Emily, Logan, Pete, Brooke, Lily, Thorpie and Billy discovered, upon their arrival, that they needed to a full serving of grilled chicken feet ('walkies') and chicken heads ('talkies') to get their next clue.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 4, leaving the race in eighth place overall?

Answer: Jett and Lily

Once the Road Block was complete, teams had to proceed on foot to the Rand Club where they were tasked with finding the Big 5 animals that appear on the South African Rand. Once they located the golden buffalo, the box beside them would contain their final clue of the leg.

With that last clue, teams raced to the Hallmark House to find Beau and the Pit Stop. Bam Bam and Logan, who smashed through the Road Block, stayed ahead to get their second first place win of the race. It was Jett and Lily, who slid through the rankings throughout the leg, who got stuck in traffic and stepped on the mat in last.
