Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Throne of Want is located within an area the player has already been to. Where do they need to backtrack to access it?

Answer: Drangleic Castle

Located practically right next to the King's Gate bonfire is, well, a King's Ring gate. Coming here with the King's Ring equipped will cause the gate to open, allowing access to the Throne of Want.
2. Surprisingly, a friendly NPC awaits the player right after entering the Throne of Want. The Emerald Herald offers the player some advice before they actually enter the throne room itself. How did she get here before the player did?

Answer: This is never revealed

This is never revealed, and the Emerald Herald pulls stunts like this four times across the game. What was the point of going on this adventure, if she could've just headed straight for the Throne of Want right from the beginning? Unfortunately, neither her motives or methods for doing this are ever revealed.
3. When meeting the Emerald Herald, she will warn the player that a previously 'friendly' NPC will come for their life if they proceed into the throne room. Who threatens the player like this?

Answer: Nashandra

How the Emerald Herald ever learned of this is never revealed either. Considering her impressive ability to bypass magical locks and read people's minds, it's a wonder she didn't think to simply go on this journey herself.
4. There are not one, not two, but a total of three friendly NPCs with summon signs offering to help the player with the daunting challenges the Throne of Want offers. One of them ordinarily resides in the Shaded Woods as a merchant and is also a war veteran. Who offers to help the player in this regard?

Answer: Head of Vengarl

Vengarl only leaves his summon sign if the player has completed his brief quest of defeating his possessed body elsewhere in the Shaded Woods. When summoned, he wields the Red Rust Scimitar and Red Rust Sword.
5. One optional NPC summon is one the player will have seen a few times by now, an NPC famous for being in possession of the "fake" Moonlight Greatsword. Who is this?

Answer: Benhart of Jugo

Benhart wields the Bluemoon, not the Moonlight, Greatsword. They look very similar but play very differently, as the Moonlight deals strictly Magic damage while the Bluemoon strictly deals Physical, and they both have very different stat requirements and scaling.
6. The third and final NPC summon is of a paladin who the player last saw at the Shaded Ruins or No Man's Wharf. Wielding the Heide Spear and frequently casting Miracles, who is this?

Answer: Bradley of the Old Guard

Bradley is definitely the most useful of the three options, as he can heal the player, cast lightning spells that three of the four bosses of this area are weak to, and he comes with three Estus flasks as opposed to Vengarl's two and Benhart's one. He may not be as tanky or hit as hard as the former, but he is otherwise still an excellent choice for a summon.
7. There are a total of three bosses to this area, and the first one is a duo fight against the Throne Watcher and Defender. The player must be careful to kill them both at close to the same time. Why is this?

Answer: They can infinitely revive each other

If one of the Throne Watcher or Defender are slain, the timer of 30 seconds starts. After thirty seconds, the alive one will approach the fallen body of the dead one, perform a quick ritual and revive their partner back to full health. As such, it is imperative to make sure that both can be quickly defeated as close to simultaneously as possible.
8. After the "Throne Duo" go down, the 'final boss' of the entire game will arrive. Who is this?

Answer: Nashandra

Nashandra is the default final boss of the entire game. In the PlayStation 3/XBox 360 version, she is always the final boss of the game regardless of player decision making.
9. There is an 'optional' final boss of the entire game, and that is Aldia, Scholar of the First Sin. Aldia, however, will not show up at all unless the player meets a few prerequisites. Which is one of them?

Answer: Defeat Vendrick

In total, the player must defeat Vendrick, light all four Primal Bonfires and they must interact with Aldia at every one of his dialogue cutscenes. Doing this will cause Aldia to appear as soon as Nashandra has been defeated.
10. Before beginning the fight with Aldia, he will demand that the player "give us your answer." What is the 'question' the player must answer?

Answer: Whether or not to link the First Flame

Like with "Dark Souls 1" this turns into a moral dilemma of Age of Fire vs Age of Dark. As the player, if you believe that Drangleic could overcome the aftermath of a horrible war and eventually be a hospitable territory with an actual society, you should choose Age of Fire and link the First Flame. If, however, you do not feel Drangleic is salvageable and believe it best to 'start over', letting the Abyss seep in via the Age of Dark would be the way to go.

As far as the game is concerned, there is no right or wrong answer- Aldia simply demands that the player has an answer to begin with.
11. The Throne Watcher's boss soul can be used on a small shield with surprisingly high absorption stats. In particular, it is one of just two shields in the whole game that can attain a 100% elemental ansorption. What element?

Answer: Lightning

Innately, this shield has a 93.3% Lightning absorption at +5, which is brought to 100% if infused with a Lightning Stone. The only other shield capable of attaining 100% Lightning absorption would be the Rebel Greatshield, a much heavier shield that has significantly worse physical absorption than the Watcher Shield.

As such, this is the shield for the job if the user anticipates an opponent leaning on Lightning damage.
12. The Throne Defender's Greatsword, obtained from his boss soul, has a unique effect when two-handed if the player presses the heavy attack button. What does it do?

Answer: Apply Aromatic Ooze

The sword gains the typical effect of an Aromatic Ooze without the player actually needing to have or use this item. It does cost 10 Durability to do this, however, so it should still be done sparingly.
13. Nashandra's boss soul can be used to acquire the Bow of Want. It doesn't look like much at first glance, but when wielding it and pressing the Parry button, of all things, this bow's potential begins to shine. Which of the following is true about this maneuver?

Answer: It does not cost ammunition to use

Pressing the Parry button simply activates the special effect, and does not actually cause the player to parry with a bow of all things. The special effect itself does not cost any ammunition, though it will put a strain of 10 Durability on the weapon's supply of 70, which is still at least well above average for a bow.

When this is performed, the player essentially conjures a lightning spear out of nowhere and uses the bow to fire said lightning. This attack deals a lot of Poise damage, making it potential clutch against difficult bosses as well as adept at interrupting opponents if used in PvP.
14. Between the Age of Fire and Age of Dark, is there a 'good' or a 'bad' ending to this game

Answer: No

This is a moral dilemma to which there is no objective answer. Age of Fire advocates would believe that people should always keep fighting, keep trying to survive against the odds, to create a society where actual peace is possible. However, Age of Dark advocates would suggest Drangleic is far too destroyed, that the Undead Curse has ravaged the population, and that salvaging it all is infeasible. Whichever way you believe in, the game did not label either of these endings as 'good' or 'bad' so it is simply up to the player to make that call.
15. The 'Throne Duo' and Nashandra offer great rewards upon their defeat. What does Aldia's boss Soul give?

Answer: Nothing

Aldia does not drop one single thing when defeated. The player doesn't even earn any souls for defeating him. This was a largely controversial, polarizing decision From Software made that unfortunately caused Aldia to become an unpopular boss. After all, why go to the effort of getting him just to spawn only to receive nothing in the end?
