However, even at his inauguration, he announced that the national debt was far worse than previously stated, and he attempted many cost-saving measures, increasing taxes and trimming the public bureaucracy, as a result of the conditions imposed in the First Bailout, signed in May 2010 by the Greek Government and the EEC (on behalf of the World Bank and IMF). This was for the provision of financial assistance, subject to conditions. These moves were not appreciated by the electorate, and there were many strikes and demonstrations. From Quiz Large And In Charge

Answer: Eglon

"And he brought the present unto Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon was a very fat man." The story of Eglon can be found in the Bible in the Book of Judges. For 18 years the Israelites were forced to pay tribute to him. One day, Ehud, while pretending to deliver the tribute, managed to smuggle a short sword or dagger past the king's guards. He said that he wanted to speak to Eglon privately, and the king dismissed everyone but Ehud from his presence. Ehud then stabbed him in the stomach. The king was so fat he could not withdraw his sword. Ehud left the king's tent and told the guards that the king was relieving himself, and did not want to be disturbed. 70. Funnytrivianna asks: Michael J. Fox, Canadian celebrity, is known for being an advocate for which type of research?

From Quiz Dream Weavers: People We Admire

Answer: Parkinson's disease

Michael J. Fox was born in Edmonton, Alberta on June 9, 1961. His citizenship is both Canadian and American. He is known for his success as an actor, author, voice-over artist, and producer. Some of his most well-known roles include Marty McFly from the trilogy movies, "Back to the Future"(1985-1990), Alex P. Keaton from television's "Family Ties" (1982-1989), Mike Flaherty from television's "Spin City" (1996-2001) and the voice-over of the little white mouse in the film "Stuart Little" (1999). In 1991 Michael Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease which is a degenerative disorder affecting the central nervous system. The dopamine-generating cells in the substantia nigra of the midbrain region die. Body movement is affected by shaking and twitching. There is slow movement, rigidity and often times there are problems with walking. The condition affects both thinking and behavior and may eventually cause dementia as the disease progresses to an advanced stage. Depression, sleep problems and emotional problems can occur for many who suffer with this disease. The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research was established by Fox in 2000. The foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease. In 2010 the foundation launched a clinical study based on the evolution of indicators or biomarkers of Parkinson's disease. This was a hugely large-scale study and the cost was well over 40 million dollars to cover over five years of research. In 2010 Michael J. Fox was appointed as an Officer of the Order of Canada. The award is for the highest degree of merit. It is awarded to a person who achieves a level of talent and service that is considered to be outstanding. It is also awarded for a person who makes an exceptional contribution to Canada and to humanity. I, funnytrivianna, admire Michael J. Fox for his dedication and hard work in the face of adversity. Through his foundation a cure for Parkinson's disease may one day be possible.

75. Tall, dark and handsome, Rancher, surgeon, police chief. No more pillow talk. Do you know who this is?

From Quiz Pi's 'Who's What' in Haiku

Answer: Rock Hudson

Rock Hudson was born born Roy Harold Scherer in Illinois on 17th November, 1925. He was an aircraft mechanic for the US navy in WWII and when his term of duty was over he moved to Hollywood to pursue a career as an actor. After some initial setbacks he found an agent. While under contract to Universal International he was coached in singing, acting, horseback riding and other areas important to his screen success. He was forced to change his name to Rock Hudson which he loathed. In the documentary "Rock Hudson: Dark and Handsome Stranger" his friends told of a quiet, unassuming man who insisted on being called Roy by friends and co-workers. His good looks made him a star and he was a very bankable product in the fifties and sixties. His most acclaimed works were "Magificent Obsession" where he ends up as a brain surgeon, and "Giant" where he played a rancher. He starred in several very popular romantic comedies as the romantic lead opposite Doris Day. In the seventies he made a comeback in the television series "McMillan & Wife" which ran from 1971 to 1977. By the 1980s he had contracted AIDS, and subsequently died of one of its complications.
