"Addams Family" Characters: Gomez Quiz

Gomez has long had Latin characteristics about him. When the original TV series was created, John Astin suggested that Gomez have Castilian blood to match Astin's own heritage. Since then Gomez has been portrayed by a number of notable Hispanic actors (such as Raul Julia and Oscar Isaac) and is typically shown to be a stereotypical Latin lover.

In addition to having Spanish blood, it appears the Addamses are also part Eastern European given the vague insights into their culture, family history and clothing.

Gomez loves when Morticia speaks French and usually exclaims "Tish, that's French!" and begins kissing her up and down her arms. Morticia will often speak French to Gomez to get his attention. Sometimes, Gomez's love of French annoys Morticia as he will interrupt whatever she is doing to kiss her. Any French word, no matter the meaning or context, works for Gomez.

In the original comics, Gomez was originally depicted as a short, pudgy man with beady eyes and crooked teeth. He looks almost goblin-like in appearance. In animated series and movies, Gomez is usually depicted in his manner but in live action media, he is usually played by a traditionally handsome actor.

Gomez is a lawyer, although not a very successful or competent one. He seems to gain enjoyment from losing cases and, at other times, does not seem to be aware when a case is going poorly for him. Gomez' career is hardly ever mentioned in any media, although in the 1991 film "The Addams Family", Gomez represents himself in court and loses that case (although it was rigged against him).

When Gomez and Morticia reminisce about how they met, they mention it happened at a funeral. Specifically, the funeral of Gomez's cousin Balthasar who was apparently murdered and Gomez was still a suspect at the time. Morticia found this a desirable trait and Gomez found Morticia even more beautiful to look at than the corpse. They fell love instantly.

In "Addams Family Values", the sequel to the 1991 film, Gomez and Morticia have a third child, Pubert, a baby boy. When Uncle Fester marries Pubert's nanny Debbie, she refuses to allow Fester to have any contact with his family. This separation causes Pubert to transform into a happy baby with curly blonde hair and rosy cheeks. Gomez falls into a deep depression because of this.

He appears to be dying and growing increasingly delusional. He is cured, however, when Fester flees Debbie and returns home.

Gomez sings "Morticia" during the first act. Morticia had been upset and concerned about growing older and losing her looks to the point that she rejects Gomez's offer to tango. This upsets him and sings "Morticia" about his love and what it means to have her in his life.

After Gomez and Morticia married in their unspecified home country, an angry mob attacks them. They decide to move to some place where no one can find them and select New Jersey because "no one would be caught dead there". They move into an abandoned mental asylum and make that their mansion and home.

This film is one of the first, if not the first, adaptation of any "Addams Family" media to specifically state where the Addamses live. Previously, it was alluded they live somewhere in New York. In the 1990s films, car license plates read "New York". It is possible New Jersey was selected for the film because creator Charles Addams was born there.

The plot of the video game is loosely based on the movie. Tully has brainwashed Fester and used him to take over the Addams Mansion. Tully has kidnapped all of the members of the Addams Family except for Gomez. Tully has taken Morticia to the vault and in order to access the vault, Gomez needs to first rescue all of the other members of his family and collect a million dollars to gain access. Once in the vault, Gomez must defeat Fester and Tully in order to save Morticia and reclaim the mansion.

Gomez's most famous hobby is playing with model trains which has been depicting across his many appearances. Gomez enjoys making two trains crash and making the largest explosion possible. Gomez is also an avid sportsman, including being a very skilled fencer.

He is a less successful golfer, however. In addition to those hobbies, Gomez also plays chess, cards and loves to sing and dance. Gardening, however, is one of Morticia's hobbies.
