Mary Alicia Rhett (1915-2014) played India Wilkes in the movie adaptation. In the book and film, she is also the sister of Ashley Wilkes, whom Scarlett O'Hara was in love with. In the novel she makes her first appearance in the year 1861, at a barbecue held on the estate of Twelve Oaks. She's a bit on the despicable side which comes out when her rivalry with Scarlett heats up since both women are in love with Ashley.

The country of India had their own Civil War back in 1558 A.D. Known as The Mughal-Rajput Wars, the Rajput Confederacy fought a series of battles against the Mughal Empire which began when the Timurid ruler Babur invaded northwestern India. Rana Sanga, the leader of the Rajput confederacy put up a resistance to the incursion.
