Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In book twelve, "Undead and Unsure", Betsy tried to get in contact with her sister Laura, the literal Anti-Christ. She wasn't responding to Betsy's calls or texts. How did Betsy describe cellphones?

Answer: Sweet sticky trap of tech

Betsy hated that "half the planet was enslaved to their cellphones", and had sworn she'd never fall into that "sweet sticky trap of tech". But, she became desperate to make peace with Laura after killing her mom - Satan. In addition to all of the calls and texts she'd sent, Betsy tried balloon bouquets, a minstrel greeting, cookie bouquets, and singing telegrams. Laura showed up. At last. "Stop sending these. They're following me."
2. "Undead and Unsure" - While Betsy was stuck in Hell (thanks, Laura), which member of her circle back at home admitted to being afraid of the queen?

Answer: Sinclair

While Betsy was dealing with her step-mother and Jessica's parents in Hell, Sinclair was recounting the story back home for us readers. He admitted to all in attendance that he feared his queen, that was why she was the queen. This alarmed Laura and Jessica, but Dr. Taylor was assuaged when he said it was a loving kind of fear.
3. "Undead and Unsure" - Did Betsy save Jessica's parents from Hell?

Answer: No

They assured Betsy that Hell had reformed them and they deserved to get out. Betsy disagreed. Jessica's mother warned Betsy about Jessica's pregnancy and insinuated maybe they could help out, as grandparents. Betsy, with satisfaction, told them both that their grandchild would never know anything about them and would never ever see them.

She also warned that she'd perform some violence on them before she left them to rot if they didn't stop talking.
4. "Undead and Unsure" - After a mysterious and confusing pregnancy, how many babies were born to Jessica?

Answer: 2

No one seemed overly concerned about the vagueness of Jessica's pregnancy. Before the timeline change, Jess had not been pregnant at all. Afterward, Betsy returned from the past and found a nicer Nick/Dick (hence the name Not-Nick) and a pregnant Jess.

While Betsy was in Hell, Laura explained to the rest that Jessica's babies were caught in a timeline loop. They kept shifting because it was unclear from what line they really belonged. Meanwhile, in Hell Antonia explained to Betsy the same thing, but added that BabyJon's super power was that supernatural forces did not bother him in the least.

He was unharmed by them. It was his lack of worry that had spread to everyone else, thus no one was questioning the length of the pregnancy. When Betsy returned, she found Marc in the midst of delivering the twins.

The girl was born first, then her brother. In Betsy's mind they were known as Naw and Other Naw because of the sound they made when born.
5. "Undead and Unwary" - Which person, earlier presumed dead, was actually alive and thriving in this book?

Answer: John Taylor

It was believed that Betsy's father John was killed in the car accident that had killed her step-mother Antonia. But, Jessica saw him walking down the street one day in St. Paul. When Jess tried to tell Betsy about it, Betsy pulled her usual denial routine and teleported off to "help" Laura run Hell. Eventually, Sinclair brought John to Betsy's house and she told him he was no longer welcome in her town. And, if she ever found out that he was in town, had contacted her mother, Laura or BabyJon in the future, she'd have him killed.

It turned out that Antonia's hairdresser, Sergio, had been burned beyond recognition with John's ID on him. John also admitted that he spread a little cash around to make sure he'd stay dead, and that it hadn't even taken much cash to do it. Alice and Monique were vampires from the earlier books in the series.
6. "Undead and Unwary" - Dick (aka Not-Nick) asked Jessica to marry him.

Answer: True

Betsy finally accepted why Not-Nick was and wanted to be called Dick, despite the fact that his first name was Nicholas. He told her that he didn't want that constant reminder that he'd ever let Jessica go, in any timeline. She understood that logic. Also, everyone found out the truth about the "weird babies", from the weird teenagers, and that left Dick and Jessica relieved.

He asked Jess to marry him, once more, and she finally said "yes". It was very funny to me when the boy twin called Sinclair "Uncle Sink".

It was also amusing that no one found out their names before they shifted back to their own timeline and left behind their newborn selves. The book ended with the Berry twins still unnamed.
7. "Undead and Unwary" - Which of these characters did Betsy NOT encounter in Hell?

Answer: Nostro the vampire

Nostro was Betsy's first big bad, if you will. She killed him and fulfilled her destiny to become Queen of the Undead in "Undead and Unwed". Her step-mom Antonia, Father Markus and Cathie all became helpers for her reign in Hell. Cathie first appeared in "Undead and Unreturnable" as a ghost.

She liked Betsy, as Betsy had gone out of her way to help Cathie stop her own serial killer. Laura was the one who'd killed the man before he could murder another woman. One presumed it was the first time Laura had killed a person, but as Laura was the Anti-Christ, who could be sure? Father Markus first appeared in "Undead and Unemployed".
8. "Undead and Unwary" - When Betsy found it hard to teleport to Hell, she used which magical literary item?

Answer: Dorothy's slippers - "The Wizard of Oz"

She used Dorothy's magical silver slippers from the book "The Wizard of Oz". She had first used them in "Undead and Unsure" to return from Hell. They were not "real", but an iconic image to help her focus. And, though they were not real, they were actually visible.

She also lamented about the change from silver to ruby colored slippers for the film "The Wizard of Oz", and how the book was so much better. I agree, the book was way better than that original movie starring Judy Garland as Dorothy.
9. "Undead and Unwary" - Into which kind of American car did Jessica place a lawnmower and then turn it on?

Answer: Mustang

Betsy's father did not get away from the mansion before Jessica had her way with him. She knew that Betsy would not administer any real punishment on this occasion, so she went outside and somehow threw a lawnmower into his Ford Mustang. The man had been living very well since his "death" and that did not sit well with Jess at all.

He'd been a selfish and lazy father to Betsy and she was determined to see him suffer something before he left town. So, after she got the machine into his car, she turned it on and tore the interior to shreds.

He started off getting mad, but ended up running away like a scared kid.
10. "Undead and Unwary" - What did Hell turn into when Betsy accepted her role as its leader?

Answer: A mall

When she first arrived in "Undead and Unsure" it had been sort of a white void. It was the same when she returned in "Undead and Unwary". After talking to the Ant, Cathie and Father Markus, she began adding up the clues to the fact she'd been setup by Satan and Laura. The more she thought about it, the more Betsy realized that her sister had dumped Hell into her lap. So, upon accepting her new role, and thinking how it needed to be sort of an organized chaos, Hell transformed into a mall. It was really a version of the Mall of America, complete with a movie theater and amusement park. At the end of the book, Betsy took Sinclair, Tina and Marc with her to see what Hell had become.

Betsy: "So! What do you want to do first?"
