quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "darning"?

Answer: Eleanor Rigby

Originally when writing "Eleanor Rigby", Paul just put together a random first name with a random family name. He later found out it was the name on somebody's gravestone in a graveyard in which him and John Lennon used to hang out as teenagers....talk about creepy.
2. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "Marigold"?

Answer: Cry Baby Cry

In John's "Cry Baby Cry, "the King of Marigold was in the kitchen cooking breakfast for the queen"
3. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "Dakota"?

Answer: Rocky Raccoon

The song "Rocky Raccoon" is Paul's way of poking fun at twangy country songs, as you can see his mock southern drawl throughout the song.
4. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "syndicate"?

Answer: Dig A Pony

According to this song, "you can syndicate any boat you row."
5. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "balalaika"?

Answer: Back In The U.S.S.R.

This song was supposed to be a satire of Chuck Berry's 1959 hit "Back In The U.S.A.", and it ended up being quite the catchy ditty itself. Believe it or not, Paul McCartney actually played drums on this track, as Ringo left the group briefly during the "White Album" sessions, as he believed that the group did not appreciate his drumming.
6. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "military"?

Answer: Lovely Rita

According to the song, "the bag across her shoulder made her look a little like a military man." I guess it's a turn-on for some folks....
7. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "Oscar"?

Answer: Act Naturally

Originally a hit by Buck Owens, Ringo came across this song one day, and decided he wanted to sing it for the "Help!" album. The other Beatles did not contest.
8. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "peaches"?

Answer: Matchbox

One of the songs not featured on any of their major albums, "Matchbox" is not a Beatles-written song and it features Ringo on lead vocal.
9. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "bootlace"?

Answer: Lady Madonna

Along with "Hey Jude" and "The Ballad Of John And Yoko", among others, "Lady Madonna" hit #1 as a single, without being on one of their major albums.
10. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "perverted"?

Answer: While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Feeling way too much tension between the Beatles during the "White Album" sessions, George Harrison brought in Eric Clapton to play lead guitar on this song, and according to all four of the Beatles, had positive effects (similar to when Billy Preston played on "Get Back" and "Let It Be" the year after)
11. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "raincoats"?

Answer: Two Of Us

Paul stands firm on the idea that this song is about him and his late wife Linda McCartney, when many true Beatles enthusiasts (me included) see this as a farewell to John Lennon.
12. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "jobber"?

Answer: You Never Give Me Your Money

Off the "Abbey Road" album, this song was about how the Beatles were frustrated that they never got paid in cash or in full, as most of the revenue would go to people in the offices and all they would get was cheques (hence the "funny paper" lyric also in that song)
13. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "hobnail"?

Answer: Happiness Is A Warm Gun

John saw a firearms magazine with "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" as a headline on the front cover, and the song just grew from that.
14. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "dovetail"?

Answer: Glass Onion

In what John claims to be a "throw-away" song from the "White Album", he makes mention to some previous Beatles songs including "I Am The Walrus", "Fixing A Hole", and "Lady Madonna".
15. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "mantel"?

Answer: Don't Pass Me By

"Don't Pass Me By" is the first of two Beatles tracks credited to Richard Starkey (Ringo Starr). Ringo said he was sitting at home, bored out of his mind, and with his limited knowledge of piano and guitar chords, wrote this simplistic yet amazing song.
16. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "letterbox"?

Answer: Across The Universe

Originally supposed to be on the "White Album", this song was held over until "Let It Be", and almost did not make it on the album. Imagine this dazzling song never having been released!
17. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "Arizona"?

Answer: Get Back

Known foremost as "the song performed at the rooftop concert", the album that turned out to be "Let It Be" was actually supposed to be called "Get Back" and feature "Get Back" and "Don't Let Me Down" as its anchor tracks ("Don't Let Me Down" never even made it on "Let It Be" for some reason or another)
18. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "custard"?

Answer: I Am The Walrus

Many feel this is by far The Beatles strangest song, John simply claims it's something he wrote based on Lewis Carroll's "The Walrus & The Carpenter" poem. I'm sure Lewis would be proud of this piece of work.
19. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "honeymooning"?

Answer: The Ballad Of John And Yoko

This song was written spontaneously by John Lennon and recorded only by John and Paul, with Paul playing drums. The others didn't seem to mind as Ringo claimed that the drumming was good and George said: "It's none of my business. If it would have been "The Balled Of John, George, and Yoko", it would have been my business"
20. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "suburban"?

Answer: Penny Lane

Penny Lane was the bus depot that John, Paul and George would frequently use as adolescents to catch transfer buses to go to each other's houses to write music.
21. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "whacking"?

Answer: Piggies

Unfortunately, this Harrison song was taken out of context by serial killer Charles Manson, who used lyrics from this song and Paul's "Helter Skelter" to justify his murdering spree in the late 60's.
22. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "football"?

Answer: Come Together

Pretty much another one of John's nonsense songs, this #1 hit combined Lennon's trademark mix of gibberish lyrics, striking vocals, and message of peace and unity in one rocking package.
23. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "porters"?

Answer: Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

John claimed this song was based solely upon a drawing his son Julian brought home of a girl floating in a diamond sky (Ringo even vouches for it), and that it was not about its initials LSD. Sure there, John.
24. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "lagoon"?

Answer: She Came In Through The Bathroom Window

According to the song, "she sucks her thumb and wonders, by the banks of her own lagoon"
25. What is the only Beatles song to feature the word "Chairman"?

Answer: Revolution
