The goal came in the 41st minute in which Arsenal dominated possession but could not break down an erstwhile Dutch defence.

On the stroke of half-time, Gonzalez scored for Panathinaikos, the Argentine striker's dipping shot beat Rosenborg keeper Johnsen and gave the home side the lead. With 11 minutes remaining, Gonzalez scored again with a superb goal from the game's man of the match. Gonzalez picked the ball up outside the Rosenborg area, went past a defender and unleashed a superb shot that bounced in off the underside of the crossbar, giving Johnsen no chance.

However, in the final minute Frode Johnsen of Rosenborg scored. His speculative effort appeared to be comfortably covered by Pana keeper Galinovic, but the Croatian allowed the ball to squirm through his hands to give Rosenborg some late hope.

It was a goalkeeping error which gave the game a new spark. Rosenborg then laid siege to the Pana goal and had a glorious chance that on balance of play will of made the Norweigians feel that they deserved at least a draw from the game.

Celtic had gone nigh on three years of European football without a home defeat (19 matches in total) only to see their former king of goals break their hearts and help his new side Barcelona take all three points.

On twenty minutes Deco of Barcelona scored after a mistake from Celtic defender Didier Agathe, Ronaldinho strode forward and laid the ball off to Deco. He made no mistake with a glorious strike past Celtic keeper Marshall into the far corner of the goal.

On the hour Celtic, having survived a spell of pressure, came forward with the pace of Camara down the right. He swung over a teasing cross which was met by Chris Sutton, who steered the ball into the roof of the net to make it 1-1.

However on seventy eight minutes Belletti put over a cross from the right wing which reached Giuly, on the edge of the penalty area, and his shot somehow found its way into the net with help from a deflection off McNamara.
Then four minutes later the inevitable happened, a mistake by Thompson let in Larsson and it was the easiest of goals for the Swede, as he rounded Marshall and rolled the ball into the vacant net. It was written in the script that Larsson would score and he did exactly that.

Darijo Srna was penalised for a late challenge on the halfway line in the 18th minute that saw his first caution. On 53, he was booked again for handling Paolo Maldini's through ball on the halfway line.
The goal came in the 84th minute through Seedorf. The Dutchman struck from the edge of the box after Barcauan's attempted clearance went straight to the Milan midfield player.

Werder had to play 85 minutes with 10 men after Valerien Ismael was shown the red card for tripping Adriano inside the penalty area. He was the last defender as the Brazilian striker latched onto Emre Belozoglu's pass and bore down on goal. The penalty given was missed by Christian Vieri who saw his effort saved by Andreas Reinke diving low to his right. Adriano however did score from the spot after 34 hitting a crisp shot into the top left hand corner after Baumann had fouled the Brazilian inside the penalty area.

The game was wrapped up in favour of Inter in the final minute when Veron picked out Adriano. The striker chested the ball down before hitting a low, left-foot drive past Reinke and into the bottom corner.

Answer: Valencia vs Anderlecht

Valencia, the Spanish champions took on their Belgian counterparts in the Mestella. They took the lead early on in the 16th minute through their inspirational winger Vicente. Aimar found Rufete on the edge of the area and the midfield player chipped the ball towards the Anderlecht keeper is Zitka. Sadly for Zitka, he spilled the ball which fell kindly to Vicente, who found the net with a low shot from just inside the area. Valencia made it 2-0 just before the break. Vicente cut in from the right and feed Baraja, who controlled the ball with one touch, and then got a lucky deflection off Vanden Borre to finish with a low shot into Zitka's right hand corner.

FC Porto won the Portuguese title as well as the 2003-04 Champions League under the guidance of Jose Mourhinho. The enigmatic Portuguese manager left Porto for London club Chelsea who made up one of the two sides in Group G not to be champions of their country, after they finished second to Arsenal. CSKA Moscow were reiging Russian champions and Paris St Germain had finished below French champions Lyon.

Group H saw the reigning European Champions Porto held to a goaless draw by crack Russian outfit CSKA Moscow. In a low key game, chances were few and far between and the result was seen as a fair one. In Paris, Chelsea got off to a perfect start by beating St Germain 3-0. John Terry got Chelsea off to a win by heading home a 29th minute corner taken by Frank Lampard.

The lead was doubled on the stroke of half-time when Joe Cole played Mateja Kezman through after intercepting a stray ball in the PSG midfield. Letizi saved from the former PSV Eindhoven man, but the ball fell to Didier Drogba who passed the ball into an empty net.

The game was killed off when Didier Drogba struck a free kick beautifully over the PSG wall with his right foot after Geremi ran over it. Letizi saw it too late to move.

Srna of Shakhtar Donetsk was dismissed for a second booking in the 53rd minute vs AC Milan. Ironically the other red card was shown in the Inter Milan match vs Werder Bremen when after five minutes Ismael of Bremen was sent off for a professional foul.
