Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What colour are the mink coats Del is trying to sell?

Answer: Tabby

As Rodney is pouring liquid from a basin into bottles labelled "Yves Saint Dior", Del is on the phone with Winston, trying to sell a genuine "Ethiopium" mink coat for £50. When Winston asks what colour it is, Del looks to Rodney, who says they are tabby.

During the conversation, Del also discusses with Winston the time Del "borrowed" a speaker.

Del: "You're not honestly trying to tell me that you've only got one speaker? What a way to run a railway station."
2. The soldier who gave Granddad the double-headed coin for good luck was killed.

Answer: False

Del is telling Granddad how he lost to Boycie playing cards the previous night. Granddad gives Del the double-headed coin as a Good luck charm. He tells Del that he was given the coin during the war by a Scotsman as a parting gift.

Granddad: "Then he went."
Del: "He died?"
Granddad: "Deserted. Mind you, you couldn't blame him the way those Germans were carrying on. Someone was going to get hurt."
3. How much money had Del lost at cards the previous night?

Answer: £150

Del and Rodney are drinking in the pub when Trigger comes. He mentions about Del's rotten luck the night before, telling Rodney that he had lost £150 at cards. Rodney is furious with Del, while Del maintains he is just going through a temporary losing streak.
4. What is the name of Boycie's wife?

Answer: Marlene

Boycie, a used car dealer, has joined Del, Rodney and Trigger in the pub. He is showing off, saying he has only managed to sell one car that day, making a measly £850 profit, which is barely enough to heat his swimming pool for a week.

Boycie: "You remember Marlene, don't you?"
Del: "All the Boys remember Marlene."
Boycie: "Well I said to Marlene, if it wasn't for the fact I was making so much money out of Del, I'd have to do something drastic, like on having smoke salmon twice a week."
5. What drink did the Irishman order?

Answer: Martini

Del bets Boycie £20 that the next customer into the pub will order a pint of something. Having seen a stocky builder-type walk past the building, Del believes he is certain to win. Unfortunately for Del, he orders a dry martini and slimline tonic.
6. How much did Rodney raise from returning the empty bottles?

Answer: £4.37

Del has lost his stake money for the game that night. Rodney offers to help by returning empty bottles from a part which had been held at the flat the previous month.

Del: "It's amazing innit, Trig. I've lived with him all these years and thought I really knew him. Then something like this happens, and you realise what a 100% 24 carat plonker he really is."
7. From where does Del produce his extra money for the game?

Answer: Telephone

Del has no money left from his original stake, but wants one last chance to beat Boycie. He produces £500 from the telephone receiver to keep the game going. Rodney asks why they have been living poorly for the last couple of weeks, and Del says the money was left by their mum for an emergency.

Rodney: "Where did you get that from?"
Del: "Busby sent it down the line, didn't he?"
8. Boyce magically switches the cards he has been dealt.

Answer: True

In the final game, we see a close up of the cards Boycie has been dealt. He has two Kings, a four a three and a ten. He the closes the pile and rubs the back of his hand. When he fans the cards out again, we see he now has four Kings and a ten.

Del: "I knew you were cheating."
Boyce: "Oh yeah? How?"
Del: "Because that wasn't the hand that I dealt you."
9. How many games of cards do we actually see being played?

Answer: One

We see the end of one game, with Del down to his last £30. Boyce wins with a running flush. As he is collecting his winning, Del demand one more game, which he goes on to win with two pairs against Boycie's for kings.

Del: "I've got a pair of aces. And I've got another pair of aces.
10. Does Del beat Boycie with the double-headed coin?

Answer: No

Del flips the coin three times, and loses all three. The first time is in the pub, just before Boycie leaves, where Boycie calls heads. Boycie also calls heads when the coin is flipped to determine whose cards they will use for the game.

The third time is at the end of the episode, where Del gives Boycie the chance to win some of his money back. Boyce is reluctant to flip the coin again, as he has already won twice, and believes that with the law of averages he's bound to lose. Del lets Rodney call for Del, and Boycie accepts. Rodney calls tails, meaning Boycie has won again.
