Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who owns the cottage?

Answer: Boycie

Boycie has a weekend cottage in Cornwall. Del met him in Mario's fish restaurant and agreed to let Del have the cottage for free for a fishing weekend.

Granddad: "How much rent is he charging you?"
Del: "Nothing."
Rodney: "He's letting you have it for free?"
Del: "Yep. All for gratis."
Rodney: "Now come on, Del, there's gotta be something behind this. Cos Boycie would scalp you if dandruff had a going rate."

It transpires Del has agreed to supply the fish to Mario's and split the profits with Boycie.
2. What type of fish are the Trotters hoping to catch?

Answer: Salmon

The cottage is near a salmon fishing stream. Mario is paying £10 for each fish caught.

Rodney: "So, we got permission, have we?"
Del: "Well, we will have. We see the gamekeeper when we get down there and we pay him £5."
Rodney: "What, and he gives us a fishing permit?"
Del: "No, he shows us the hole in the fence."
Rodney: "I knew it."
Del: "It's called business."
Rodney: "It's called stealing."
Granddad: "No it ain't, Rodney."
Del: "Listen to your granddad."
Granddad: "It's called poaching."
3. The Trotters are cautioned by the police for poaching.

Answer: False

As they are nearing the cottage they are stopped on the road by a police officer. Del tells Rodney and Granddad to let him to the talking. Although the policeman asks them if they are going fishing, his real reason for stopping them is because of an escaped patient from the local institute for the criminally insane.
4. How many years ago did the axe murderer commit his crimes?

Answer: 10

According to the policeman, ten years ago that very night the patient had killed a party of weekend fishermen, causing a little unease among the Trotters.

Del: "Don't worry, we'll be locked up safe and sound in Boycie's cottage. Anyway, there's three of u...(looks at Granddad). Well, there's me and yo...(looks at Rodney). Don't worry, I'll look after you."
5. How does Rodney describe the weather outside?

Answer: Typhoon

When they arrive at the cottage, there is a storm outside. Rodney thinks he has seen a movement in the trees outside when they are coming in from the van.

Del: "Of course you've seen a movement in the trees. There's a ruddy typhoid blowing out there."
Rodney: "Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry."
Del: "It's alright. Come on, pull yourself together."
Rodney: "It's, erm, it's a typhoon."
Del: "Ah, good idea, Rodney. Put the kettle on, we'll have a nice cup of tea."
6. What board game do the Trotters play?

Answer: Monopoly

Rodney opens up a cabinet in the front room and pulls out Monopoly, along with a small axe, which he worries belongs to the axe murderer. After establishing that they murderer is not in the cottage, we later see the Trotters playing monopoly. Predictably, we are told Del own most of the board.

After Del attempts to overcharge Rodney for putting him up in the penthouse suite, and Granddad refuses to pay Rodney rent for owning a property next to the waterworks, Rodney gets frustrated and tips over the board.
7. How many times do we see someone at the window?

Answer: 2

We see someone at the window not long after the Trotters arrive. Del has gone into the kitchen to fill up a saucepan for hot water, and a flash of lightning lights up the window to reveal someone standing outside. We later see the same person after the game of Monopoly has ended and Rodney opens the curtains to look outside.
8. Does Del eventually use the outside toilet?

Answer: Yes

Del was needing to go to the loo, but there was only one outside. He was initially too scared to go. A guard from the hospital arrives at the cottage, and informs the Trotters that the murderer has probably fled the scene due to his presence there. This gives Del the courage to eventually go to the toilet. When he is finished, he opens the door and hits the murderer, knocking him out.
9. The Trotters catch the axe murderer.

Answer: False

We see Rodney and Granddad at the police station with the man Del has knocked out, the same one we have seen at the window. Rodney tries to take full credit for catching him. It transpires that he is actually the gamekeeper. Meanwhile, Del is still back at the cottage alone with the real murderer, who he had believed to be the guard.
10. What game does Del play at the end of the episode?

Answer: Snooker

The murderer asks Del if he likes snooker.

Del: "Do you?"
Murderer: "Yes."
Del: "So do I. It's terrific, innit."

The murderer asks Del to play snooker, on the imaginary table in the front room of the cottage. The murderer claims he never wins at snooker.

Del: "I've a feeling you're going to win this one."
Murderer: "I hope not. I don't like winning."

He explains how his father always forced him to win, but that people challenge winners, whereas losers are anonymous. Del sees an opportunity in this, and challenges the murderer to play for £10 a frame.

Del: "I've got a feeling that this weekend is not going to be a total loss, after all."
