Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Holograms (or photonic beings) are made of photons and forcefields, but what are humanoids made of (according to the title of an episode)?

Answer: flesh and blood

This episode dealt with the aftermath of Janeway's decision to give holodeck technology to the Hirogen in "The Killing Game." The Hirogen were killed the holograms over and over again and, like the doctor, they became more and more sentient. These holograms killed the Hirogen hunters, kidnapped the Doctor, and set off to free other 'photonic beings.'
2. Name of holodeck character that Naomi Wildman played with in the episode "Once Upon a Time."

Answer: Flotter

Flotter was made of water while his (future) friend Treevus was made of tree/wood. Apparently, this holodeck program has been in use for many years - Harry says he was crazy about those holonovels as a children, Flotter tells Naomi's mother how much she's grown and Janeway had flooded the entire forest when she was a child.
3. Setting for the holodeck WWII simulation in "The Killing Game."

Answer: France

Janeway was the head of the French Resistance (actually, the Maquis) in the town while running a bar. Seven sang in the bar, B'Elanna had an affair with a German officer, Neelix made deliveries and as for Chakotay and Paris - they were American GIs coming to liberate the town.
4. Species which had become 'gods' on a planet in the Delta Quadrant. Ties up a storyline from "The Next Generation" episode "The Price."

Answer: ferengi

"False Profits" Janeway couldn't let the Ferengi continue to harm the planet's culture, so she decided to get them off the planet. But in order not to harm the culture any further, she had Neelix pretend to be a Ferengi who was 'recalling' the Ferengi to their homeworld. Unfortunately for Voyager, the Ferengi used the wormhole that had been found and left back for the Alpha Quadrant, without enough time for Voyager to use the wormhole themselves.
5. George Takei guest-starred in this episode.

Answer: Flashback

This episode has Tuvok remembering an event from his past - specifically, the events which occurred on the Excelsior during "Star Trek VI." As Sulu, George Takei reprised his role on "Voyager."
6. Name Rain called Tuvok in the episode "Future's End."

Answer: freakasaurus

She called him this after Tuvok brought back Mexican food for breakfast. Tuvok and Tom Paris were stuck in late 20th century Earth as they tried to find a timeship that Dr. Starling had hidden away in Los Angeles.
7. City that DaVinci decided he wanted to leave in "Concerning Flight."

Answer: Florence

DaVinci, trying to perfect his flying machine by having Janeway jump off a bridge, decided that the city was ridiculing him so he'd leave and take his inventions elsewhere. Well, DaVinci's program was stolen and he ended up in what DaVinci thought was America (actually, it was an alien planet).
8. Shield-maiden holodeck character and the Doctor's first 'love'.

Answer: Freya

Freya (played by Marjorie Monaghan, who played the head of the Mars resistance on "Babylon 5") was the king's daughter and a good warrior. She was killed trying to save her father's kingdom from the beast that was killing everyone. In the end, she was killed in battle. According to the "Star Trek Encyclopedia," Freya is the Norse goddess of love and beauty and the day Friday is named for her.
9. Name of Tom's holodeck program set in Ireland.

Answer: Fair Haven

All the crew (except B'Ellana and Tuvok, we never see them spending much time there) enjoyed this program - especially the captain. Janeway fell in love with Michael Sullivan, the bartender. She even changed his parameters to make him more 'appealing' to her.

In the end, she told the computer to deny her access to his program. (And thus was born one of the funniest fan-fictions ever - send me a note if you want to know the plot.)
10. Name of the alien the Doctor named in "The Void."

Answer: Fantome

The alien being couldn't speak and didn't like the light, but communicated to the Voyager crew through tones. When his friends joined him, Fantome taught them how to 'speak' the tones and their talk sounded like music. The Doctor named him Fantome after Gaston Leroux's character The Phantom of the Opera.
