Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Although it might not have been clear at first, the opening scene was actually a view of the future. What dropped onto the road as a Los Pollos Hermanos truck pulled away from a stop sign?

Answer: A pair of tennis shoes

As the scene opened, we saw a faded pair of tennis shoes dangling from a cable overhead and a Los Pollos Hermanos truck approaching a stop sign that had apparently been used for target practice. As the truck pulled away from the sign, the frayed laces on the shoes tore, and the shoes plummeted to the ground.

It wasn't until later in the episode that we saw why the shoes were there. In that scene, the stop sign had a few less bullet holes in it, and instead of a Los Pollos Hermanos truck, we saw one of Hector Salamanca's ice cream trucks. So this first scene was a view of the future, when Gus Fring had taken over Salamanca's territory.
2. Mike finally met Gus Fring, face-to-face. Fring told him that he wouldn't allow Mike to kill Hector Salamanca, but would allow Mike to do what?

Answer: Rob another truck

After Mike answered the cell phone that he found in the middle of the road, Gus Fring and several of his cronies met Mike on the deserted road. Fring told Mike that he wanted Hector Salamanca left alive, for now, but that he would be willing to let Mike rob another truck "if you feel so inclined".

When Mike said he was done robbing trucks, Fring said that their business was done. Mike asked if Fring would leave him alone - no trackers and no one following him. Fring told him he would as long as Mike was done with Salamanca.

As Fring started to walk away, Mike said to him: "You want his trucks hit because you want to disrupt his supply lines. Hector's your competition". When Fring asked him why he asked, Mike responded: "Because I'm not done with Hector Salamanca."
3. As Jimmy was waiting for the police to arrive outside Chuck's home, Chuck proceeded to tell Jimmy that everything he was doing was for Jimmy's benefit. What was Jimmy's ominous response to Chuck?

Answer: Chuck would die alone.

After being caught in Chuck's trap, Jimmy sat on the curb outside Chuck's house, smoking a cigarette, while waiting for the police. Chuck came to talk to him, somehow surviving without his space blanket, and gave Jimmy one of those "I'm doing this for you , and you'll thank me in the end" speeches. "Here's what's going to happen", Chuck said as he proceeded to lay out his plans to press charges against Jimmy, calling it an opportunity, not punishment. Jimmy responded, "Here's what's gonna happen. One day you're gonna get sick again. One of your employees is gonna find you curled up in that space blanket, take you to the hospital, hook you up to those machines that beep, and whir, and hurt. And this time, it'll be too much. And you will die there. Alone."
4. Who came to see Jimmy while he was being processed at the police station?

Answer: Oakley, the prosecutor

The montage of Jimmy being booked at the police station featured Little Richard's version of "Hurry Sundown". While Jimmy was being fingerprinted, Oakley walked in with a smirk on his face: "How the mighty have fallen!" He said that he wanted to see it for himself: "Jimmy McGill getting fingerprinted with the Hoi Polloi".

After he finished teasing Jimmy, he said that he'd try to get the first appearance before the judge moved up but that it was too late to do anything that night, so he offered Jimmy advice on spending a night in jail: "Pick the biggest guy, punch him as hard as you can. Ok? Show dominance".

When they met later, and Oakley asked him how his night in jail went, Jimmy said that he had "caught up with a few old clients".
5. Who told Kim that Jimmy had been arrested after confronting Chuck about the tape?

Answer: Ernesto

Another montage during the episode showed us Kim's morning routine after sleeping in the office. She walked across the street to a gym where she showered and dressed for the new day. When she was walking back to the office from the gym, she saw Ernesto waiting for her in the parking lot.

He told Kim that he'd been fired by Chuck but that he was there because he was felt bad about Jimmy. "What happened to Jimmy?" Kim asked.
6. Jimmy was hoping to have his case prosecuted by one of his old friends at the courthouse. What did he use to try to soften up Oakley the prosecutor?

Answer: Food

Bill Oakley had sat down on a bench with a meal of two bags of chips and a cup of coffee when Jimmy approached him with a hamburger and fries. He put the container between the two of them and told Oakley to have some. It wasn't quite a bribe but clearly Jimmy's intent was to use their relationship to Jimmy's benefit.

But Oakley told Jimmy that the whole Albuquerque DA office had been removed from the prosecution because they all knew Jimmy. He said that a DA from Belen was being brought in for the case, someone who had a reputation for being "tough but fair". Jimmy looked dejected after getting this news, and when Oakley pointed out that his burger was getting cold, Jimmy told him to take the burger: "There's too many trans fats". "Ah but those are the best fats", replied Oakley.
7. Where did Mike get the package of drugs that he used to dust Hector Salamanca's truck?

Answer: A doctor in Mexico

Mike picked up a package at a free clinic south of the border. When the doctor asked the receptionist who was next, she listed several ailments, and when he asked why the gringo was here, she said "the revenge". But when Mike went into see him, Mike said, "I believe our mutual acquaintance called ahead".

The doctor replied that, "he told me what but not how much" so Mike demonstrated how much he needed: "I need a package yea big".
8. When Hector Salamanca's men were stashing their guns before arriving at the border, why did Mike fire shots into the air?

Answer: To make them think that hunters were in the area

When the first shot went off, the men dropped to the ground, thinking that someone was firing at them. But after the next shot, one of them suggested it was hunters in the area, and after a couple more shots, they seemed to accept that solution. Mike did this so that when he shot the sneaker, they wouldn't be surprised to hear the shot; thus they wouldn't suspect anything was going on.
9. What tipped off the border agents to the drugs when they were searching the ice cream truck at the border?

Answer: A dog smelled drugs on the back of the truck.

Hector's men stood in front of the truck as the agents searched it. When the detection dog was brought around the truck, he stopped at the back and sat down. He had picked up the scent that was left on the truck from Mike's operation. The agents then called in the police, who raced to the scene, clearly surprising Hector's men.
10. At the end of the episode, Jimmy told Kim that he had been offered a pre-prosecution diversion deal. Why did Jimmy not want to accept the deal?

Answer: He'd lose his law license.

At first, Kim was thrilled to hear that Jimmy had been offered a deal; she thought it would irritate Chuck, but when Jimmy told her it was Chuck's idea, she knew something was up. Jimmy told her there was one condition to the deal: He would have to provide a written confession that would be sent to the New Mexico Bar Association. "I thought he wanted me in jail; he wants my law license", said Jimmy.

The felony in the confession would be grounds for disbarment according to Kim, and Jimmy wasn't willing to give up his license.
