Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The brief opening scene of the episode was a flashback to a young Chuck and Jimmy sharing a tender brotherly moment. Chuck was reading a story to Jimmy, but where were they?

Answer: In a tent

The opening scene showed Chuck reading "The Adventures of Mabel" to Jimmy in a makeshift tent in the yard of their house when they were kids. "The Adventures of Mabel" was the book that Jimmy and Chuck discussed in the first episode of the season; Jimmy found the book while he was helping Chuck remove the foil that Chuck had taped to the windows and walls of his home.

In the flashback, there was debris scattered in the yard, much like there would be in Chuck's yard at the end of the episode, including a baseball bat, which series co-creator Peter Gould said was the same one that Chuck would use later in the episode, and the Band-aid can that Jimmy kept his special coins in.

But the scene mainly focused on the lantern, the alpha and omega of the episode.
2. In the previous episode, Howard had suggested that Chuck should retire, and Chuck didn't take it well. What was the result of Chuck's meeting with Howard and the other partners in this episode?

Answer: Howard bought Chuck out with his personal funds.

When Chuck met with the partners, he pointed out the options: Litigation, buy him out or "put all this unpleasantness behind us and continue on as we have been. I'm willing to let bygones be bygones. And if you agree, I think we can settle all this right now with a simple handshake". Chuck was rather smug, because he knew that the first two options would ruin HHM, so he assumed that Howard would have to accept the third option.

As Chuck approached Howard with his hand out, Howard asked everyone to leave the room.

When they were alone, Howard said that Chuck had let "personal vendettas turn your focus away from what's best for HHM. You've put your needs first, to our detriment". Howard was upset that when he sympathetically suggested that it might be time for Chuck to retire, Chuck's first response was to sue the firm. Howard then handed Chuck a check for $3 million - "the first of three payments as per the partnership agreement".

When Chuck realized that the money was from Howard's own funds, he looked shocked. "You won", said Howard, but in fact, Chuck just realized that he'd actually lost. Howard then took Chuck out to the atrium where everyone had gathered to see Chuck off. Howard announced that Chuck was retiring effective immediately and led everyone in applauding Chuck, but Howard walked off before everyone else was finished applauding.

He was done, and so was Chuck.
3. Nacho took Hector on a tour of a building that Hector wanted to use for his operation. Which location was it?

Answer: Nacho's father's upholstery shop

In the last episode, Nacho had warned his father that Hector Salamanca would be paying him a visit, and his father hadn't taken it well; he ordered Nacho out of his house. In this episode, as Nacho walked Hector through the building, explaining how his product would be processed, Hector asked to see "Papi". Nacho's dad was at the front counter and wasn't at all pleased to see Hector.

Hector tried to lighten his mood by telling him that they were friends and then placing a few stacks of cash on his counter. Nacho's dad responded by asking Hector to leave. Nacho quickly told his dad not to be disrespectful and quietly reminded him to think of their relatives. Nacho's dad winced, and picked up the money, but Salamanca wasn't convinced.

He walked out with Nacho following after him. Nacho told Hector: "He's old-fashioned; he'll come around", but Hector said that he didn't trust Nacho's father and then left.
4. After Kim's accident, Francesca contacted Kim's clients to re-arrange her schedule to meet the deadlines, but Kim decided to take a break instead. Where did she ask Francesca to drive her?

Answer: Video store

Francesca told Kim that she (Francesca) had contacted the Gatwood stakeholders and that Kim would still be able to meet the deadline by pushing the meeting out to the following week. Kim started planning her schedule, but then she changed her mind. She had Francesca drive her to "Blockbuster" to get a stack of videos to watch during her recovery.

While she was picking out the films, Francesca was on the phone to Billy Gatwood, and she told him that Kim recommended the firm of Schweikart and Cokely to take over his case. Schweikart and Cokely was the firm that was representing the Sandpiper facilities in the class action suit, and Rick Schweikart had previously offered Kim a job at their firm.

When Jimmy came home later, Kim was on the sofa, surrounded by DVDs and tortilla chips and dip. "How's Relax-athon 2003 coming along?" he asked her.

Incidentally, although the crew took care to only display films in the store that were available on DVD in 2003, they accidentally included Tim Burton's "Big Fish", which wasn't available on DVD until April 2004. Executive producer Gennifer Hutchison's husband (a former Blockbuster employee) caught the error while watching the finished episode but it was too late by then.
5. Jimmy was clearly upset by Kim's accident, and it made him rethink some of his actions. To whom did he admit that "if I had to do it all over again, I would maybe do some things differently"?

Answer: Chuck

Jimmy did some soul-searching after Kim's accident and decided to make amends. He went to see Chuck, putting his keys and watch in the mailbox and grounding himself, whether out of habit or out of concern for Chuck. Jimmy was surprised to see the lights were back on; he opened the fridge and saw food and told Chuck it was great that he was doing better.

When Chuck wanted to know what Jimmy wanted "besides proof of life", Jimmy explained that he had been thinking, and "if I had to do it all over again, I would maybe do some things differently". Chuck asked him why he had regrets and told him, "Don't bother. What's the point? You're just going to keep hurting people".

When Jimmy asked Chuck if he (Chuck) hadn't done anything wrong also, Chuck responded: "Let me put your mind at ease, Jimmy. You don't have to make up with me. We don't have to understand each other. Things are fine the way they are. I don't want to hurt your feelings, but the truth is, you've never mattered all that much to me". Chuck then returned to his desk, and Jimmy slowly left.
6. After a restless night, Chuck tore his house apart. What was he looking for?

Answer: The source of an electrical current

Chuck woke up during the night and took a pill while doing his mindfulness exercise: "Gold comforter, green chair, brown journal". He then started to make notes in his journal about how he was feeling, but he stopped. He went downstairs and shut off the breakers.

He returned to his bed, but he was unable to sleep. In the morning, Chuck checked the power meter and it was still running. He called the electric company and was told that they couldn't get there that day. Chuck made an appointment for Wednesday, but he wasn't going to wait for them - he was going to find out why the meter was still running.

He checked switches, removed bulbs, but still the meter kept moving. He made one last phone call before unplugging the phone - he called to cancel his appointment with Dr. Cruz.

Then he began tearing holes in the walls of the house as he searched for whatever it was that was using electricity. Remember how meticulously he showed Jimmy how to remove tape in the first episode of the season? None of that this time -- he punched holes in walls, ripping off drywall, and even took a crowbar to the kitchen tiles.

He finally found some wires and tore them out, thinking he'd found the source, but when he went back to the meter, it was still running, so he smashed it with the baseball bat, and he left the bat and the meter lying in the yard, like the debris in the flashback scene.
7. Nacho's plan for the doctored pills finally worked. During a meeting with Juan Bolsa and Gus Fring, Hector had an attack and collapsed after taking the pills. Who performed CPR on Hector?

Answer: Gus

Juan Bolsa had a face-to-face meeting with Hector and Gus to confirm that Hector understood that "the chicken trucks" would be carrying Hector's product from now on. When Hector asked why Gus was there, Bolsa told him that their boss, Don Eladio, wanted the two of them to settle their differences so that they could work together.

Hector became belligerent, insulting Don Eladio, and when Bolsa told him to calm down, Hector had an attack. He took the doctored pills and collapsed. Gus immediately took charge.

He told Hector's men to call 911 and get rid of their guns, and as he was performing CPR on Hector, he told Bolsa to leave: "You should not be here when they arrive". Meanwhile Nacho recovered the remaining pills that had dropped to the ground.

When the ambulance arrived, the paramedic asked Nacho if Hector was taking any medications, and Nacho handed over the bottle with the remaining pills in it. We didn't actually see Nacho switch the pills back (he collected the pills from the ground and put them in his pocket), but perhaps Gus did; he stared at Nacho with a thoughtful gaze.
8. Jimmy wasn't having any success in reuniting Sandpiper resident Irene Landry with her friends, so he decided to indirectly confess to his actions via an open microphone. What activity was he hosting at the facility while he was wearing the microphone?

Answer: Chair yoga

Yes, Jimmy usually led bingo, but this time it was chair yoga. Jimmy found out that even though Irene had agreed to the settlement, her friends were still alienating her. When Jimmy met with the friends, they told him that she had just accepted the settlement to try to get back on their good side. Jimmy tried to convince them that it was his fault - he'd "stuck his nose in where it didn't belong and stirred the pot".

But they still wouldn't reconcile with her, so he decided to sacrifice himself with a full confession.

He showed up at Sandpiper to run the chair yoga session, put on the microphone and had started the exercise session when Erin Brill from Davis and Main showed up. She insisted that she had to talk to him right then, so they went outside.

She accused him of taking advantage of Irene to get her to accept the settlement. Jimmy responded, "Do you have any idea how much time I had to put in listening to their insipid ramblings about their sciatica or which grandchild disappoints them the most?" When Erin told him that he betrayed their trust, he said that "if the only thing standing between me and a million bucks is some old lady's tears, then I suggest investing in Kleenex". Erin then accused him of ruining Irene's life because he wanted his money, to which he sarcastically responded, "Boo and Hoo". Erin stormed off, telling him that he was "disgusting". "And rich", Jimmy added. Jimmy's microphone had been on while they were talking, so the Sandpiper residents heard all of his comments.

When he returned to the yoga, people were leaving, and Irene and her friends confronted him: "Shame on you!" Jimmy then met up with Erin in the parking lot. It turned out that she was in on it; he had contacted her and asked her to help him with this plan to reconcile Irene with her friends. But she told him that she had "meant every word" she said. The surprising thing was that Kim was apparently aware of what Jimmy had done to get Irene to settle the case. Prior to Jimmy embarking on his plan, Kim had asked him, "No luck with Mrs. Landry?" which meant that he must have told her at least some of the awful things that he had done.
9. Francesca said goodbye to Jimmy and Kim towards the end of the episode. Why was she leaving?

Answer: Jimmy and Kim were closing their office.

When Jimmy had his license suspended, Kim thought they should give Francesca notice because there wasn't enough work to justify keeping her, but Jimmy insisted that they keep her. But after Kim's accident, Jimmy decided to sublet their office, and as it would just be Kim working from home, they wouldn't need Francesca. Luckily, her old supervisor at the MVD had a spot for her, so after she helped Jimmy and Kim pack up the office, she said her goodbyes. Jimmy told her that they'd call her if they got another office, and Francesca said ok, but she didn't sound convinced.

As Jimmy and Kim were getting ready to leave, Jimmy picked up his Rolodex from a box and threw it in the trash, stating that he needed a new business model other than elder law when he got his license back because the seniors were "smearing [his] name across a tri-state area, sending telegrams to everyone, far and near". Kim took the Rolodex out of the trash: "You never know".
10. The ending shot of season three was an outside view of Chuck's house. What did we see through the windows?

Answer: Flames

The ending scene began with the camera panning the yard outside of Chuck's house. It was littered with electrical items that Chuck had apparently tossed outside in his attempt to rid the house of electricity. The inside of the house was in shambles. There were holes in the walls and debris all over the floor. Chuck was sitting, wrapped in a space blanket, with a dazed look on his face, and we heard a dull thumping.

He was kicking at the desk with a lantern on it, and the lantern slipped to the ground, igniting the debris.

The last thing we saw was the flames quickly spreading through the room. Was this the end of Chuck? On the "Talking Saul" show that aired after the season finale, co-creator Peter Gould wavered, saying that "it sure looks bad for Chuck" but that "even if Chuck is dead... that doesn't mean we're finished with the character, because that's the wonderful thing about this show - we go back and forth in time".

In a subsequent interview, however, he admitted that he's not a fan of "schmuck bait... making it look like something really big happened to get people to keep watching, and then as soon as they keep watching you take it off the table", and Michael McKean, who portrayed Chuck admitted in a "New York Times" article that Chuck was dead.
