Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In episode 3.1 "Mabel", who confronted Jimmy in his office with the quote: "Guys like you, you think you're so damn smart and you think you don't have to play straight with anybody. The wheel is gonna turn. It always does"?

Answer: An Air Force captain

Although it certainly sounds like something Chuck could have said, the quote was made by Air Force Captain Bauer. In the previous season, Jimmy had scammed the captain into letting him film a commercial on the air base, and after the commercial aired, the captain went to see Jimmy.

He was offended that Jimmy had lied to him and wanted the commercial taken off the air, but Jimmy refused. Instead Jimmy offered to not "fly jet planes and you stay out of court. Sound good?" Bauer then responded with the above quote.
2. Perhaps foreshadowing the future, who told Jimmy in episode 3.2 "Witness", "I think you're a little crooked" while examining his paintwork in the office?

Answer: Francesca

Francesca was talking about the logo that Jimmy had painted on the wall in the office. When she arrived for her interview, he asked her if it looked straight, and she responded, "I think there - that side - I think you're a little crooked - the bottom of the 'M' there". Jimmy agreed, "Yeah, a little crooked". Francesca later told Jimmy that she had fixed it. Oh Francesca, you only wish!
3. In episode 3.3 "Sunk Costs", Oakley the prosecutor offered this advice to Jimmy: "Pick the biggest guy, punch him as hard as you can. Ok? Show dominance". What was the advice for?

Answer: Jimmy's night in jail

After Chuck had Jimmy arrested, Jimmy was booked in the facility where he used to work, and Oakley came to see him once he heard Jimmy was there. Although Oakley teased him a bit, Oakley said he'd do what he could to get Jimmy's appearance time moved up, but Jimmy would still have to spend the night in jail.

When they met later, and Oakley asked him how his night in jail went, Jimmy said that he had "caught up with a few old clients". Later when Jimmy tried to get information from Oakley on his (Jimmy's) case, Jimmy brought a hamburger and fries to the impromptu meeting to tempt Oakley.

When Oakley reminded Jimmy to eat his burger, Jimmy offered it to Oakley, stating that, "There's too many trans fats". Oakley responded, "Ah but they're the best fats".
4. Which partially-legal entrepreneur gave his employees an impassioned speech in episode 3.4 "Sabrosito", telling them that "This is America. Here, the righteous have no reason to fear"?

Answer: Gus Fring

Gus made the speech the day after Hector Salamanca visited Los Pollos Hermanos, intimidating both customers and employees. Gus had to explain who Hector was and why he was there, and since he couldn't tell the truth, he told his employees that Hector and his men used to shake him down for money when he operated a restaurant in Mexico, and they were trying to do the same thing again.

But Gus said that he refused to give them money since he was now in America, and that's not how business is conducted here.

The employees ate it up, applauding Gus when he finished his speech.
5. In episode 3.5 "Chicanery", Chuck made the following comment about Jimmy: "I love my brother. But Ted Kaczynski's brother loved him too". What was he doing when he made the comment?

Answer: Rehearsing his testimony for the Bar hearing

Chuck was at his home, rehearsing his speech for the Bar hearing, but he dismissed this Unabomber reference as being "sanctimonious", so he tried again: "I love my brother. He's a good person. He has good in him. But the law is too important". Chuck seemed fine with that quote, and at that point, there was a knock on the door, and Chuck said, "Be right there, Howard".

When Chuck was providing his testimony at the hearing, he ended up saying that "There's nothing malicious about Jimmy. He has a way of doing the worst things for reasons that sound almost noble.

But what I know for sure is that the law is too important to be toyed with."
6. In the aftermath of the Bar hearing in episode 3.6 "Off Brand", who made the following quote to Chuck: "Where would we be if, say Clarence Darrow, had devoted the best years of his life to supervising his ne'er-do-well relatives? Think of the cases he wouldn't have taken. The injustices that would have gone unanswered. What a waste"?

Answer: Howard

Howard showed up at Chuck's house with a bottle of 35-year-old Macallan whisky and tried to get Chuck back on track following his disastrous appearance at Jimmy's Bar hearing. Howard told Chuck that he "was at a crossroads". He could continue to focus on Jimmy or he could pick himself up and get on with his life. Howard recommended the latter: "Jimmy's just not worth it".

He also told Chuck to focus on the future because "anything else is a waste of your time and intellect".
7. In episode 3.7 "Expenses", to whom was Kim speaking when she said, "As far as I'm concerned, all we did... was tear down a sick man"?

Answer: Paige

Kim was meeting with Paige to go over an apparent Mesa Verde expansion into Utah. Paige admitted to Kim that she looked at the transcripts from the disciplinary hearing: "What you did to Charles, you and James set him up perfectly. You destroyed him!" Paige was clearly pleased with the outcome, but it was eating away at Kim.

When Paige questioned the loan to deposit ratios for Utah, Kim snapped at her: "The numbers are right, but you can review the guidelines if you want". She then dropped a heavy book on the table in front of Paige. Paige backed down, and then Kim apologized for being unprofessional: "There's no excuse for talking to you like that".

She then revealed her regrets with the above comment.
8. In episode 3.8 "Slip", to whom was Chuck speaking when he said: "This condition, to me it's as real as that chair. It's as real as this house. It's as real as you. But what if it's not? What if it's all in my head? And if that's true, if it's not real, then what have I done?"

Answer: Dr. Cruz

Chuck was meeting with Dr. Cruz in his house, and while Chuck had been making good progress in addressing his allergy to electricity, Dr. Cruz told him it could take years for him to fully recover. She asked him to talk about the night that he called her.

He explained that he had had "a very public incident, perhaps the worst experience of [his] life". He said that it had been proven that he had a battery in his pocket for over an hour and he felt nothing. That's when he realized that the condition might not be real.
9. In episode 3.9 "Fall", to whom did Howard say, "If enough people tell you you're drunk, you sit down"?

Answer: Chuck

After Chuck used the threat of a lawsuit to chase away representatives from the malpractice insurance company, Howard broached the idea of retirement to Chuck: "Become partner emeritus. Leave your name on the firm, but focus on your legacy". Chuck didn't appreciate the suggestion, but when Howard said that it wasn't a suggestion, Chuck asked him what he meant, and Howard responded with the above quote.

When Chuck became upset because he thought he was being forced out over the insurance, Howard said, "it's not just the insurance. That's the straw that broke the camel's back". Howard had the best quotes in this episode.

When talking to Jimmy about the Sandpiper settlement, Howard said that, "It's like talking to Gollum - you're transparent and pathetic" and he suggested to Jimmy, "Next time, why don't you bring a tin cup.

It would be more honest".
10. And the heartbreaker -- in episode 3.10 "Lantern", who told Jimmy, "I don't want to hurt your feelings, but the truth is, you've never mattered all that much to me"?

Answer: Chuck

Following Kim's accident, Jimmy did some soul-searching and decided to visit Chuck to let him know that he wished he had done some things differently. He was pleasantly surprised to find the lights on in Chuck's house with food in the refrigerator - it appeared that Chuck was getting better.

But when Jimmy tried to apologize, Chuck told him not to bother because he (Jimmy) was never going to change. But it didn't matter according to Chuck: "Let me put your mind at ease, Jimmy. You don't have to make up with me. We don't have to understand each other. Things are fine the way they are. I don't want to hurt your feelings, but the truth is, you've never mattered all that much to me".
