Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What South American coastal city was teams' first destination?

Answer: Iquique, Chile

In Leg 1, teams traveled from Los Angeles, California and made their way to the nation of Chile, their destination for the first two legs. The first of these sent the teams to the coastal city of Iquique on the edge of the Atacama Desert, where racers had the chance to paraglide over the dunes and beaches. Leg 2 sent them into the desert proper before letting them take a twenty-four hour bus ride to the capital city of Santiago.
2. Which team was unable to complete any task upon landing in Lisbon, Portugal in Leg 3?

Answer: Chester and Ephraim

Heading into Leg 3, nine teams needed to find a way to transport themselves from Santiago, Chile all the way to the European capital of Lisbon, Portugal, navigating through tricky series of flights to get to their destination. This proved difficult across the board as teams arrived throughout the course of a day to complete tasks in and around the city, ultimately checking in at the Pit Stop atop Castelo dos Mouros in Sintra, Portugal. Chester and Ephraim, however, who had bad airport delays throughout their trip, arrived far too late to compete and in a rare turn, Phil met them at the airport to eliminate them before stepping foot outside.
3. Visiting Northern Norway in Leg 4, teams completed all of their tasks in the middle of the night.

Answer: True

In fact, teams arrived in the Lofoten Archipelago at about 11:00pm and proceeded to complete their Detour and Road Block tasks well into the middle of the night but, since they were above the Arctic Circle in the middle of summer, they ended up running this leg of the race during daylight hours; the sun never set. Teams engaged with local fishing tasks for the Detour before taking a bridge-jumping plunge for the Road Block. Brandon and Adam checked into the Pit Stop, a viking longhouse, in first place and all teams were told to keep on racing.
4. On the edge of the Gulf of Gdansk, teams stopped at Sopot Pier in Leg 5. What did they find there?

Answer: Pit Stop

Sopot Pier marked the end of a double-length leg of the race in which teams flew from Lisbon to far-north Norway and then kept on racing through their fourth Pit Stop for a leg in the city of Gdansk, Poland. In this leg of the race, teams partook in some cultural tasks in the city's old town and stopped off at Solidarity Square and the Golden Gate.

The Road Block also took teams to the city's longest apartment complex. In the end, eight teams raced down Sopot Pier to the fifth Pit Stop, and though they placed first in Norway, best friends Brandon and Adam were last to arrive, falling victim to two tough Detour challenges when they were targets at the Double U-Turn board.
5. During the race's sixth leg in Vienna, Austria, which team attempted the Fast Forward at the Donauturm?

Answer: Jason and Amy

The only Fast Forward featured in this season of the race took the participating team(s) to the Donauturm, the site of a classic "Amazing Race 4" Road Block task which required participants to bungee jump off the Viennese landmark. Jason and Amy made the attempt to go complete this task but, upon their arrival, they were informed that the weather conditions made it impossible to perform.

As such they had to retrace their steps and play catch up to check in at the Pit Stop. Fortunately they were not the last team to arrive; Tim and Danny struggled at the Road Block and were eliminated at Schönbrunn Palace.
6. The oasis of Al Ain served as a destination in which of these legs of the race?

Answer: Leg 8

The final six teams headed to the United Arab Emirates for two legs-- Leg 7 and Leg 8-- racing through Abu Dhabi's unique metropolis all the way through the desert to the garden city of Al Ain. While most of the tasks in Abu Dhabi (Leg 7) took teams through markets and super-structures, the second leg featured more adventurous fare, working with animals, hopping on dune buggies, and going white-water rafting.

After the two legs, Nicky and Kim were eliminated at Jebel Hafeet.
7. Teams collected a Detour clue from a railway station in what Indonesian city?

Answer: Bandung

Leg 9 took the final five to the region surrounding Bandung, Indonesia where a series of tasks pushed teams further outside their comfort zone than ever before. After joining in a Javanese ram fight, teams took local trains to Bandung Station and set off for one of two animal-themed Detour tasks and a musically-inclined Road Block allowing them to construct their own angklungs.

The leg ended atop a hill in Lembang in front of Bosscha Observatory where Ally and Ashley were sent home.
8. Visiting the tea fields of Subang, Indonesia in Leg 10, teams had the chance to hunt for which of these during their Detour?

Answer: Clipping shears

While only Leo and Jamal ended up completing this task, teams had the opportunity, in Leg 10, to visit the Ciater Tea Plantation and search through terraced fields of tea plants for hidden, marked clipping shears. The dense fields kept them searching for hours before checking into the last non-elimination Pit Stop of the race. During this leg, teams also ate fried cobra, boiled eggs in the hot springs of an active volcano, and checked in in the shadow of the beautiful waterfall of Curug Cimahi.
9. In Leg 11, teams visited Shinjuku Central Park where they found which of these?

Answer: Road Block

The penultimate leg of the race featured a wild and wacky trip through Tokyo, allowing the final four to engage with some of the more absurd aspects of Japan. In addition to visiting a shrine devoted to lucky toy cats, teams had the chance to participate in a 'Human Bowling' Japanese game show.

At Shinjuku Central Park, teams completed a Road Block where they had to construct a robot out of cardboard. Leo and Jamal, who placed last in the previous leg, also completed a Speed Bump at this park, participating in a local 'Rhinoceros Drill', a practice session in case an actual rhino escaped from the zoo.
10. In the final leg, teams finished the race at the end of the Northern Douglas Highway in what state?

Answer: Alaska

At long last, teams ended this twenty-third race in the state of Alaska, struggling through a tough Road Block before engaging with physical tasks in the glacial inlets around the coastal mountains and, eventually, completing a memory task themed around the nations visited throughout the season and the currencies used at each one.

After twelve legs of the race in thirty-five thousand miles, Jason and Amy were the first to arrive at the Finish Line to win the million dollar prize. They were followed by Tim and Marie in second and Nicole and Travis in third.
