Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Foghat's "Slow Ride"

Answer: A High-Pitched Buzz and Training Wheels

When Sheldon gets a job as a paper boy, he has a little trouble. He's on a tricycle attached to a wagon that is filled with newspapers, but the wagon is heavy so Sheldon can't move it very fast, especially when he's going up a hill. This is why "Slow Ride" is the perfect song for this moment.
2. The Clash's "I Fought the Law"

Answer: A Solar Calculator, a Game Ball, and a Cheerleader's Bosom

Sheldon becomes popular at school when he uses his math knowledge to help the team when football games. However, he hates being popular because people touch him a lot (82 times according to him). This includes people messing with his hair, people raising him in the air, and a cheerleader hugging him to her breast. In addition, his work load increases as he has to help the team win football games, help his grandmother get out of gambling debt, help his friend and sister get into a party, all while studying. This results in him having less time to study, and him getting a subpar grade on a math test. Sheldon shows the test to his mother and tells her about all the sins his family has been committing. Then, we see her screaming at other family members and showing them the test while this song plays.

The Clash's other major cover song, "Police on My Back," appears in "A Sneeze, Detention, and Sissy Spacek" as Sheldon runs for his life to avoid catching the flu.
3. Faith No More's "Epic"

Answer: A Boyfriend's Ex-Wife and a Good Luck Head Rub

After the show's introduction and theme song, the next thing we hear is adult Sheldon narrating about the types of groups that he hates. One example that he gives is rock groups, to which he says "I'll restrict my drug use to Rolaids, thank you." The music video for "Epic" plays while Sheldon is saying that.

It's not revealed in the episode, but based on what we know of the family, we can assume that Sheldon saw his older brother watching this music video on a cable channel that he (the brother) recently started paying for.
4. Dire Straits' "Walk of Life"

Answer: Pilot

The first sound we ever hear in the history of this show is the beginning of this song. We see the title character playing with toy trains and we hear adult Sheldon narrating about how much he has always loved trains while this song is playing.
5. Skid Row's "Youth Gone Wild"

Answer: Rockets, Communists, and the Dewey Decimal System

This song plays while adult Sheldon says "When you're three foot ten and in high school, getting from point A to point B can be a harrowing experience" and young Sheldon runs from the school's entrance to the library. In a later episode, we see Georgie playing this song for his girlfriend. But remember, for this quiz, you were asked to name the FIRST episode that the song appears in.
6. The Beatles' "Money (That's What I Want)"

Answer: The Sin of Greed and a Chimichanga from Chi-Chi's

When the university offers George a coaching job and a pay raise so that Sheldon can go to school full-time there and have his dad there with him, the high school butters them up as much as they can so that they will stay at the high school. This song plays as we see all the things the high school does to butter up Sheldon and his dad (examples include giving George a new parking spot, chair, and a golden whistle, one of the teachers makes the class watch Star Trek, and Sheldon gets the key to the faculty rest room).
7. Manfred Mann's "Mighty Quinn"

Answer: An Eagle Feather, a String Bean, and an Eskimo

When Sheldon goes to live with a family in Dallas so he can go to a better school, the family loves to sing folk songs. Sheldon hates this, and he is glad when his dad brings him home.
8. REM's "It's the End of the World as We Know it."

Answer: A Sneeze, Detention, and Sissy Spacek

When Sheldon is afraid of catching the flu, he builds a protective fortress to spend the rest of his life in, in the garage. His mom gets in there and chases him around the table as this song plays. This song plays because Sheldon really did think the flu was the end of the world as he knew it. Earlier in the episode, he referenced the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic and the number of people who died in it.
9. Twisted Sister's "I Wanna Rock"

Answer: Dolomite, Apple Slices, and a Mystery Woman

This is when Sheldon meets and befriends a geologist at the high school. This song plays as she shows him the wonders of geology. The use of this song at this moment is likely a double entendre on the two meanings of the word "rock." The song referred to rock music when it was written, but in this episode this song is used because "Rock" is also the type of object that the geologist was showing off.

Twisted Sister's other big hit, "We're Not Gonna Take it," also appears in this episode.
10. Diana Ross's "Someday We'll be Together"

Answer: A Swedish Science Thing and the Equation for Toast

When Sheldon throws a Nobel Prize party in his garage and no one shows up not even his friends Tam and Dr. Sturgis, and when his favorite scientist doesn't win, he gets really sad and adult Sheldon narrates that he thought he'd be alone forever. Then, we see all of the kids who later in life would become Sheldon's friends as this song plays.
