Nabila marries Jerry, Ezekiel's loyal court jester, steward, and personal bodyguard. Michonne has a relationship with Rick, with whom she has a son, and Rosita has a relationship with Father Gabriel. Although Carol initially turns down Ezekiel's marriage proposal, they apparently wed offscreen sometime during a time jump, and in season 9, episode 6, "Who Are You Now?", they are shown ruling the Kingdom together.

Henry's father was killed on a mission in the early days of the Kingdom. His older brother Benjamin was later killed by a Savior, leaving Henry without any family. Ezekiel and Carol adopt and raise him as their son. Henry is played at different ages by a pair of brothers, Macsen and Matt Lintz.

In addition to working as a zookeeper at the National Zoo in D.C., Ezekiel mentions performing in community theater. "I played a few kings," he quips to Carol in season 7, episode 2, "Arthur, Macbeth, Martin Luther." His penchant for acting helps him to play the part of a king when he establishes the Kingdom.

When Ezekiel was a zookeeper, the tiger Shiva fell into a concrete moat in her exhibit and ripped her leg open. Though the vets were on their way, Ezekiel feared she would bleed out, and, ignoring the risk, rushed to help her. By getting his shirt around her leg, he saved her life and thus earned her loyalty. "After that, she never showed so much as a tooth in my direction," he says in "The Well."

Answer: The high school theater

When Carol, injured and in a wheelchair, is first wheeled in to meet King Ezekiel, he is sitting in his throne in the high school theater, with Shiva chained to his side. The Kingdom was established in an old high school and the busses used to provide a buffer.

The high school apparently had a vocational program that involved greenhouses and gardening that allowed them to continue to grow food, and the power still works for some unexplained reason.

Ezekiel delivers this speech in a flashback in season 8, episode 4, "Some Guy": "We face dire challenge and chance. Our lives... our way of life... it hangs in the balance, a fragile glass standing on a wire, high above the asphalt, as we pray for not one drop of rain under an overcast sky. And yet, I smile. We will fight, and we will bleed... and yet I smile. We shall face men, some cornered into their roles by circumstance, some desperate murderers thrilled by blood. We shall end them all.

As is our charge this day.

As is our sorrow. And yet, I smile." He leads his people in a chant of "We are one! We are one!" Unfortunately, the Kingdom's army is slaughtered in the battle. Ezekiel manages to escape from beneath a pile of bodies.

Answer: Gavin

In season 8, episode 9, "Honor," Gavin, one of the lieutenants of the Saviors, takes Ezekiel captive at Negan's orders. Gavin tells Ezekiel that Negan is going to kill him, and Ezekiel replies that because he has gotten his people to safety, "What befalls me now matters not." Carol and Morgan rescue Ezekiel.

Ezekiel tells Carol this in season 8, episode 6, "The King, the Widow, and Rick." From the start, Carol saw through King Ezekiel's act, and she's one of the few people he's spoken honestly to throughout the series. When his soldiers are defeated fighting the Saviors, he's ready to give up, but Carol asks him why he kept visiting her.

He answers, "You just made me feel real. Not a fiction. Real." Carol replies, "You are real to me, to the kingdom. Those people need their king to lead them."

Answer: A projector bulb

Carol is not happy when she learns of Ezekiel's planned side trip. She doesn't think it's worth risking so many walkers to retrieve something as insignificant as a projector bulb, but Ezekiel wants to be able to show a movie in the high school theater. So Jerry uses a boom box and plays music to draw walkers away from the movie theater, and the group takes out the remaining walkers inside to score the bulb in season 9, episode 11, "Bounty."

Although in the comic book series, Ezekiel is one of the heads on the pikes used to mark Alpha's borders, he is not so killed in the television series. As of season 10, episode 15, Ezekiel was still alive on "The Walking Dead." Ezekiel is played by actor Khary Payton.

After their son Henry is killed, Carol and Ezekiel's marriage begins to crumble. The Kingdom collapses from rot and burst pipes and fire, and they make their way to the Hilltop. Ezekiel confronts Daryl, asking what his plans are after they arrive at the Hilltop.

He says he's hoping for a fresh start with Carol at the Hilltop, "and it would be easier if it was just us." It's unclear whether Ezekiel is jealous of Daryl and sees him as an obstacle to his marriage or he wants Daryl to take Lydia away so she won't serve as a reminder to Carol of their son's death.

Carol returns Ezekiel's ring at the Hilltop, though Ezekiel refuses to take it from her. Carol then goes onto Alexandria with Daryl and Lydia. Ezekiel, feeling defeated, contemplates suicide, but Michonne happens upon him. He tells her, "I lost my Kingdom. I had a reign, and what did I do with it? I failed. Benjamin, Shiva, Henry, then the Kingdom, now Hilltop. And Carol. I don't even know how to talk to her anymore." Ezekiel kisses Michonne, and though she accepts the kiss, the two agree to part in friendship. In the comic book series, it is Michonne and not Carol who marries Ezekiel.

Daryl notices the lumps on Ezekiel's neck as he's fastening his armor. Ezekiel has discovered he has thyroid cancer, as did his grandmother and father before him, though both overcame it in the old world because of better medical care. Five-year survival rates for thyroid cancer are 98% in the United States currently, and treatment includes surgery and radioactive therapy among other things.

But in a world without modern medicine, Ezekiel fully expects to die from it. In this scene, Ezekiel and Daryl, who have never gotten along really well, make a truce of sorts, and together they agree that if there's a problem, one or the other of them will lead the children out of the Hilltop.

Ezekiel kills Lance, a Savior, as well as two unnamed Scavengers. He also orders Shiva to hunt down another Savior, Nelson, and maul him to death. In battle alongside his fellow soldiers, he directly kills at least five Saviors.

Ezekiel explains his relationship with his tiger Shiva in season 7, episode 2, "The Well." Shiva is later eaten alive by walkers in "Some Guy" while helping Jerry, Carol, and Ezekiel to escape, and he's devastated by the loss.
