Rosita is shocked and upset by Eugene's revelation in season 5, episode 5, "Self Help" that he has been lying about being a scientist. However, she stops Abraham from continuing to beat Eugene. A hand on her gun, she blocks Abraham's way, and then she tries to rouse an unconscious Eugene.

In season 6, episode 10, "The Next World," Eugene says, "I mapped out some of the agricultural supply places in the area. Even if they've been cleaned out, my bet is the sorghum would be untouched. Now, that there is a criminally underrated grain that could change the game of our food situation from scary to hunky-dunky. I'm talking stand-ability, drought tolerance, grain-to-stover ratio that is the envy of all corns. Think about it."

Eugene later goes on to produce ammunition for the Saviors. After the War with the Saviors, he helps Daryl produce biofuel at the Sanctuary. Eugene eventually becomes a chief engineer in Alexandria, and then moves to the Hilltop. When he arrives at Alexandria, however, he's assigned to work on the solar arrays.

In "Last Day on Earth," Eugene suggests driving the RV away to lure the Saviors away from the others. He thinks the Saviors are probably looking for the RV rather than a group traveling on foot. Rick agrees. But Eugene is captured by the Saviors and lined up with the others. Negan, who has commandeered the RV, steps out to the kneeling members of Rick's group and begins his taunting.

Rosita wants revenge on Negan for murdering Abraham. However, Alexandria has run out of ammunition. In season 7, episode 4, "Service," Rosita finds a spent shell casing from Negan's gun and brings it to Eugene, saying, "Make me a bullet." In "Hostiles and Calamities," Frankie, Amber, and Tanya watch Eugene as he plays video games. They eventually ask him if he knows how to make a bomb, and he takes them outside to show them he can make and ignite one, at which they clap. Later, Tanya and Frankie visit him alone and ask if he'll make a suicide pill for Amber, but they really intend to use it on Negan.

Together, Rosita and Daryl take out the guards escorting Eugene and capture him. Later, while Daryl is busy fighting walkers, Eugene forces himself to vomit on Rosita. In "Stradivarious," Rosita shoots a flare gun and is discovered by Jesus and Aaron, who get her to safety and have her treated at the Hilltop.
