The opening scene is set in The Nag's Head, where landlord Mike is selling tickets. His trick is to tell everyone he only has two left, but during the scene we see him sell six.

Maureen appeared throughout the fourth series of the show, and also once in series five. She was played by Nula Conwell, who is perhaps best known for playing WPC Martella in police drama "The Bill" from 1984-1993.

During this episode, Del agrees to buy two tickets to the party from Mike. Mike asks Maureen to give them to Del and make sure she gets the money. Del, who has his hands full having just bought a round of drinks, tells Maureen to take the money from his pocket.

Maureen [feeling inside Del's trousers]: "There's no money in there."
Del: "No, it's in my jacket pocket."

Despite warnings from Mike that he doesn't want to lose his licence due to gambling, Del and Boycie are playing poker, with reference being made that Del has been winning all evening.

As Del is preparing to leave, he and Boycie decide to have one more quick game. They begin doubling their bets, until it reaches £128. Trigger, standing behind Boycie, gives a quick shake of his head to tell Del not to take the bet.

Del: "Wait a minute. This is supposed the a friendly game. It's like the start of World War 3, innit?"
Boycie: "What can we do, Del Boy. It's just the way the bids have gone."
Del: "I'll tell what we can do. We can both take our bets back and start all over again. And just, you know, try to play a little more sensibly. All right?"
Boycie: "All right, Del Boy. Anything you say...Right, £1."
Del: "I'll see you."
Boycie: "I've got three tens."
Del: "Well that beats me out of sight, Boycie. Well played, my son."

Mickey Pearce teased Rodney that he wouldn't have a date for the party, so Rodney bets him that he does. Over breakfast the following morning, Rodney confesses to Del and Uncle Albert that, in fact, he lied to save his pride. Del and Albert begin offering some suggestions for potential dates from their estate.

Del: "Cracked it! Remember a couple of months ago when I took you on that blind date?"
Rodney "Remember it? I'm still having therapy for it. You are not honestly suggesting I spend another evening with big Brenda."
Del: "Just because she's taller than you. Anyway, I heard she was a very sporting girl."
Rodney: "Yeah, but when you told me she was a sporting girl, I didn't realise you meant she was southern area shot put champion."

Rodney is preparing to go out to try to find a date. He dresses in black trousers and shirt, with a white jacket and belt and a black and white striped tie.

When Albert sees him, he states that he's just remembered he's playing dominoes later. Del then tells Rodney he looks like a liquorice allsort.

Albert asks Rodney why none of the girls on the estate he's taken out want to see him again. Del states that it's because Rodney has a liking for uniforms, but Rodney denies this and claims that while the girls just want to have a bit of fun, he has a tendency to fall in love too easily.

Albert fetches a photograph from his room of a lady called Helga he met in Germany in 1946. He asked her to marry him, but she turned him down. He also mentions that she had lost one of her fingers after her home had been bombed during the war.

Albert: "It's funny, you know, but even after all this time, whenever I'm watching a German war film and I hear the word nein, I always think of Helga."
Rodney: "What, 'cos that's how many fingers she had?"
Albert: "It's the German word for no...I think,in her own way, she loved me. She never used to charge me as much as the other lads."

Del has agreed to buy Rodney's bet from him before accompanying him on a night out looking for a date. After visiting several clubs, Rodney finally admits that no-one matched up to his expectations because he had told Mickey Pearce his date was in show business.

Del then bumps into an old stripper friend called Yvonne, who agrees to be Rodney's date for the party.

We do not get to witness the party, but instead see the aftermath as Del comes rushing back home followed soon after by Rodney, who is not best pleased. We are informed that Yvonne stood on the counter and began stripping for everyone. We are also told that a snake featured in the performance.

Despite the problems with Rodney's date, he still manages to win the bet, having taken a date to the party. When Del asks Rodney to hand over his winnings, Rodney flips him 50p.

Del: "What's this? Fifty pence?"
Rodney: "Yeah. Oh, I bet I know what you thought."
Del: "You and that Mickey Pearce. You're like a couple of bleedin' kids."
Albert: "I can't wait to tell the boys down the market. Rodney's girl did a strip and Del Boy won a 50 pence bet."
