The bosses are located in the room next to the giant blacksmith where the sentinels are located. They are extremely tough to beat but with enough perseverance you can defeat them. The trick is not to get disheartened (and summons)!

Answer: The Ash Lake

The reason for it being difficult to access is the fact that it is located it is protected by several illusory walls and the curse inducing Basilisks. It can only be accessed through the Great Hollow, which is located in a remote and treacherous part of Blighttown.
