Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Anor Londo Sentinels make up the main force of enemies the player has to deal with. What are they weak to?

Answer: Magic

Sorcery builds therefore have a small advantage in fighting them. Unfortunately, their shields will fully absorb any and all forms of damage, including Magic, so the main challenge here would be attempting to cast spells which will target them when their shields aren't in front of their body.
2. Off the bat, there is an NPC by the very first bonfire. What is her name?

Answer: This is never revealed

She is referred to by the game as "Dark Moon Knightess" and in dialogue occasionally as a Firekeeper, but her name is never revealed. Nevertheless, the Dark Moon Knightess is an important Anor Londo NPC, and if she is slain, the first bonfire will be permanently disabled.
3. If coming up to the courtyard from the first bonfire, on the left and right side at the far ends, the player will see two statues of the same person. Who are these statues depicting?

Answer: Executioner Smough

There is a lot of vague, frankly confusing lore surrounding Anor Londo. The one thing that is certain, however, is that Executioner Smough resides within the Anor Londo cathedral, and was tasked by someone of importance with guarding it. That "someone of importance" could either be Gwyndolin, Gwyneviere, or Gwyn himself, and this is never made entirely clear by the game's lore.
4. Near the first bonfire lies the entrance into the Duke's Archives. If this has been the first time the player has been to Anor Londo, however, trying to enter the Duke's Archives will cause a small message to display. What does it say?

Answer: "Sealed by the Great Lord's power"

The "Great Lord" is Gwyn and, considering Anor Londo was his city before he linked the first flame, it makes sense that he would have some degree of influence still. The player will need to acquire the Lordvessel in order to enter the Duke's Archives.
5. There is an enormous elevator in the center of Anor Londo used for travel. It will become a lot easier to use when the player kills the mini-boss patrolling it. Who is this?

Answer: Bell Gargoyle

This time, it is only one, and not two of them. Predictably, it will not respawn when slain. When slain, it will drop its headpiece and, if the player did not collect it during the formal boss fight, it will also drop the Gargoyle's Tail Axe.
6. A classic, timeless albeit infuriating gauntlet begins after taking the elevator for the first time. The player will find themselves under a treacherous barrage of greatarrows while attempting to scale the cathedral building for a way inside. Who is shooting at the player here?

Answer: Silver Knights

Two Silver Knights may not seem like the end of the world, but these two in tandem have undoubtedly claimed more player kills than every other Silver Knight in the game put together, maybe even multiplied. The main reason for this is that, unless they have a greatbow of their own, the player cannot fight back as they use very slim scaffolding and climb their way up to a wall with zero maneuverability whatsoever.

This, of course, means getting shot by a powerful greatbow will just about always lead to falling to the player's death.
7. If the player wants to go to Painted World of Ariamis, they'll need to come here and find the painting connected to Ariamis. They'll then need a key item to actually enter the painting. What item?

Answer: Peculiar Doll

The Peculiar Doll can be found by returning to the Undead Asylum. It cannot be picked up during the player's first encounter with the area. They will need to kill a Black Knight in order to acquire the Peculiar Doll.
8. The infamous "rafters" of Anor Londo are treacherous enough, but they're also quite deceptive. There are two item drops on a chandelier just slightly beneath the slim structures the player can walk on. Can the player get those items from here?

Answer: No

Though the Chandelier is very close to the rafters, such that the player wouldn't even take any fall damage dropping down on top of it, it will give way and collapse if the player lands on it. This will indeed lead to a lethal fall. In order to properly collect these items, the player must attack the chandelier, causing it to fall.

Then, using the elevator to get to the Painted World of Ariamis will cause them to cross paths with this destroyed chandelier, enabling them to safely grab the Crystal Magic Weapon spell and five Humanities.
9. Inside the large room with the rafters, the player will unfortunately find that a former ally has perished here. Whose corpse is found?

Answer: Black Iron Tarkus

Tarkus' corpse is found just to the left of the painting depicting Ariamis. His entire armor set and shield can be looted off of it. It is never known how exactly Tarkus was killed. Considering that he was a summon for Iron Golem, the boss preceding this area, it is probable he had his own ambitions for Anor Londo just like the player.

His close proximity to the painting of Ariamis suggests this could've had something to do with it.
10. On a more positive note, Solaire of Astora is found sitting right next to the second bonfire. For as optimistic as encounters with him usually are, players usually avoid talking to him right away here. When spoken to, where will Solaire move to next?

Answer: Lost Izalith

If Solaire moves to Lost Izalith, he will become corrupted by a Sunlight Maggot, he will go hollow and the player will need to kill him during their next encounter. By not speaking to Solaire, he will remain in Anor Londo until the player can properly deal with these Sunlight Maggots, thus enabling safe travels for Solaire.
11. Siegmeyer of Catarina's quest can be continued here. He can be found, frustrated standing outside of a very wide open room. What does he need the player to do here?

Answer: Go in and kill Silver Knights

There are four Silver Knights inside the room Siegmeyer is having difficulty with. Fortunately, they can all be aggroed and fought separately from one another. When they've all been slain, speaking to Siegmeyer will progress his quest.
12. There is opportunity to join the Blades of the Darkmoon covenant here. However, this covenant is extremely fickle, and it's maybe too easy to accidentally get kicked out of it. From within the Darkmoon Tomb, which action of the following will cause the player to be kicked out of this covenant?

Answer: Entering the fog door

Curiously, despite being a Firekeeper and clearly having a close relationship to Dark Sun Gwyndolin, the Darkmoon Knightess can be freely killed and it won't impact the player's status within the Blades of the Darkmoon covenant. It will still deactivate the first bonfire in Anor Londo, however.

When the player gets close to the fog door, they will be stopped as Gwyndolin will call out and order them to kneel where they stand. The player can oblige and, from here, interact with the covenant. If they pass through the fog door anyway, this will begin the boss fight with Dark Sun Gwyndolin. Whether the player defeats him or not, they'll end up permanently kicked out of the covenant all the same.
13. From within the Darkmoon Tomb lies our first boss fight. Dark Sun Gwyndolin takes the field, and his illusory magic will create a seemingly endless hallway for him to teleport up and down. Is this hallway truly endless?

Answer: No

Gwyndolin's health pool is tiny. Because of this, the player typically won't actually reach the end of this hallway until he is defeated and the hallway is made much shorter. Still, if the player wanted to for whatever reason, this hallway does have an ending to it, so Gwyndolin can eventually be cornered. Once cornered, he will simply teleport behind the player instead of making distance in front of them.
14. Gwyndolin's boss soul can be converted into his own sorcery catalyst. It can also be turned into the Darkmoon Bow. This bow is unique for being the only bow in the game to innately deal elemental damage. What element?

Answer: Magic

As with most Darkmoon items or spells, this is a magic weapon scaling off of Faith. The stat requirements for this bow are slim, needing just 16 in Dexterity and Faith, but it still does predominantly scale off of Faith.
15. Right in front of the cathedral building is an iconic, very important NPC best known for being the only one able to craft boss soul weapons. Who is this?

Answer: Giant Blacksmith

Having no formal name, the Giant Blacksmith can always be found, merrily hammering away at whatever weapon the player brings to him.
16. Arguably the most beloved as well as most challenging fight in the entire game is found here, as the player will square off with Dragonslayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough. A fight with such notoreity unsurprisingly offers an NPC summon available. Who is this?

Answer: Solaire of Astora

Simply summoning Solaire makes this fight significantly easier, as this removes the numbers advantage from the iconic Anor Londo pair instantly. As always, Solaire will wield his Sunlight Straight Sword and Shield when summoned.
17. Both Ornstein and Smough have their own boss souls, but the player can only earn one at a time. Which of the following determines what soul they earn?

Answer: Whichever of the two is killed last

When one of them is killed, the other will absorb their fallen ally's power and grow massively in size, gain a new moveset and get fully healed. Affectionately referred to as "Super" Ornstein or Super Smough, killing the "Super" version will prompt that boss to drop their own soul on defeat.
18. Ornstein's soul can be used to make his Dragonslayer Spear. However, unlike Smough, Ornstein drops something else as well. What does he drop?

Answer: Leo Ring

The Leo Ring applies a 25% bonus to counter damage inflicted by Thrusting weapons. Unsurprisingly, the Dragonslayer Spear counts as such a weapon, giving the player an immediate use for the ring.

It is very likely that the specific names used for the ring and Ornstein himself were meant to reference the late 16th century musician Leo Ornstein.
19. Smough's soul can be turned into his own greathammer. This is a massive weapon, with the highest Strength requirement out of every weapon in the entire game. How much Strength is needed to wield the Smough's Greathammer?

Answer: 58

Despite such a huge requirement, the base damage on this weapon is noticeably lower than most other colossal weapons, and with just a D for Strength scaling, it will frequently come up short compared to alternatives such as the Dragon King Greataxe, Black Knight Greatsword or the Grant.

It has the advantage of self-healing for 8% of damage dealt on a square hit, up to a max of 8% the player's maximum health. It does deal enough damage to actually make this healing situationally appreciable.
20. After dealing with everything Anor Londo has to offer (or so it seems...) the player can find and enter Sun Princess Gwyneviere's covenant. For as cheery and hospitable as she is, something may not feel right to the player. What trickery is afoot here?

Answer: She is an illusion

This ruse can be uncovered by simply using any damaging attack or item on Gwyneviere. She has one hitpoint, and will be immediately "killed" by anything the player does to damage her. Doing this will kick the player out of the Darkmoon covenant permanently, but it will also cause the sun to instantly set, making Anor Londo out to be very, very dark.
