Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Firelink Shrine is well known for its interconnectivity. Which of the following can the player quickly reach via walking, with no need of fast travel, from Firelink Shrine?

Answer: Blighttown

By having the Master Key on hand, the player can go from the bonfire in Firelink Shrine to Blighttown in roughly two minutes. They simply need to take the elevator down to New Londo, find the second elevator in New Londo, take it up, cross a small wooden bridge and enter a moderately sized cave.
2. There are a lot of NPCs who travel to and from Firelink Shrine. Which of the following is the only one to be there initially and stay there for the entire game consistently?

Answer: Nobody

Anastasia will only end up doing this if the player kills Lautrec of Carim before he kills her. Otherwise, Firelink Shrine is a revolving door of NPCs, some of vital importance, some who only serve to slightly alter the aesthetic of the area.
3. Right upon arriving, there is an opportunity to join the Way of White covenant. What NPC must the player interact with to do this?

Answer: Petrus of Thorolund

Of the Thorolund clerics, only Petrus is present when first arriving at Firelink Shrine. Speaking with him and exhausting his dialogue will eventually give the player the ability to enter the Way of White covenant, and they can then purchase Miracles from him.
4. Crestfallen Warrior is an NPC who serves as a guide for new players, for about the first half of the game. He will depart after continually complaining over a 'smell' and aiming to do something about it. This 'smell' belonged to a different NPC. Which one?

Answer: Kingseeker Frampt

Of the four options, Frampt is the only non-human, as a primordial serpent. Personally, I'm no expert with fantasy animals, but it logically does seem likelier that a serpent spending all of his time sleeping in a dirty moat of water would smell worse than humans who... don't do that.
5. Around halfway through the game, foul play is afoot, as the Firelink Shrine's Firekeeper, Anastasia, is found murdered and nobody seems to know who the culprit is. Through use of the Crushed Eye Orb, the player can discover whose hands are stained with her blood. Who killed Anastasia?

Answer: Lautrec of Carim

By taking this orb to the Anor Londo cathedral, the player can invade Lautrec. Killing him will cause him to drop a few items, most notably a Firekeeper's Soul. Bringing this soul back to the Firelink Shrine can allow the player to revive Anastasia and restore the bonfire. Alternatively, they can bring her soul to another Firekeeper to have it converted into an Estus Flask upgrade, at the cost of permanently disabling the Firelink Shrine bonfire for the remainder of the playthrough.
6. Murder isn't the only crime taking place at Firelink Shrine, at least not immediately. This NPC, one who can potentially refer to himself as a 'wolf in sheep's clothing', can potentially bring about the death of Reah of Thorolund if the player isn't extremely careful. Who is this?

Answer: Petrus of Thorolund

The four Thorolund clerics journeyed to the Catacombs on a secret mission. Things went horribly awry, and it resulted in Vince and Nico becoming fully Hollowed, almost killing Reah in the process. The player can rescue her, causing her to go to the Undead Parish. Here, she will be murdered by Petrus if the player defeats two bosses before they buy all of Reah's Miracles. Buying all of Reah's Miracles will cause her to leave Undead Parish to escape dying at the hands of Petrus.

If the player does not purchase all of Reah's Miracles and defeats two bosses after rescuing her, Petrus will murder her at Undead Parish. Her corpse will be found with seven Humanities on it. Afterward, if Petrus is killed, he will drop the Ivory Talisman, Reah's signature Talisman.
7. Siegmeyer of Catarina will briefly appear at Firelink Shrine. Here, he will ask the player if unlocking the gate to Sen's Fortress was their doing. If the player tells him that it was, he will reward them with what Miracle?

Answer: Emit Force

When casting Emit Force, the player will take a second to change it up, then fire a small white orb at their target. If it hits, the target will either be knocked back if it's an NPC, briefly staggered if it's a significantly larger opponent or, in the case of most bosses, they will simply take a lot of poise damage, possibly being staggered.

Unlike Force, Emit Force does a fairly small amount of damage, whereas Force does absolutely zilch.
8. Domhall of Zena is an NPC merchant who can come to Firelink Shrine. Uniquely, he is the only character in the entire game who is proven to be bilingual. What is his second language?

Answer: Welsh

When approached and interacted with for the first time after teleporting to Firelink Shrine, Domhall will greet the player by saying "Aye, Shwmae." This is roughly translated from Welsh into "hey, how goes it?" In English. Considering that the entire Soulsborne franchise has been sprinkled with Scottish, Gaelic and Welsh references or otherwise, it's not too surprising that their only bilingual character speaks such a language.
9. After Kingseeker Frampt arrives at Firelink Shrine, his presence has opened up a small moat within the Shrine, converting it into a small pit hovering right over the Kiln of the First Flame. Normally, Frampt himself will essentially 'ride' the player down this pit. The player can go down it by themselves, but this will trigger a strong reaction from Frampt if they do. What will Frampt do if the player goes down this pit without him?

Answer: Leave Firelink Shrine permanently

Going down the pit without Frampt will anger him greatly, to the point where he no longer believes the character is capable of finishing their journey, labeling them a "sorry fool" before leaving Firelink Shrine for the rest of the playthrough. There is nothing concrete to suggest why Frampt is so irate at the player doing this.
10. There is an elevator going up that, upon initially arriving to the Firelink Shrine, will be disabled. The player can activate it by going to the area the elevator is connected to. What area is this elevator connected to?

Answer: Undead Parish

When at the parish, instead of taking a staircase up that eventually leads to the Bell Gargoyles boss fight, the player should head to the slight right of that staircase and travel forward for about ten seconds. This will allow them to activate the elevator that serves as a convenient shortcut to and from Firelink Shrine.

This elevator will prove particularly useful in rescuing Reah of Thorolund from Petrus' sinister clutches. It also serves as evidence that From Software is and always has been a genius development company as far as map design goes- the interconnectivity of Firelink Shrine was vastly ahead of its time when the original game released!
