Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In general, "Dark Souls 1" is well known for having lots of interconnectivity between the beginning of the game up to around mid-game. Which of the following is true about Blighttown in that regard?

Answer: It can be accessed at the beginning of the game

If the player either chooses the Bandit class or selects the Master Key as their starting gift, they can end up right in Blighttown from the beginning of the game. All they'd have to do is simply take the lift from Firelink Shrine down to New Londo, take the other lift up from New Londo into Valley of Drakes, cross a dilapidated bridge, then head into a cave right at the end of said bridge.

They will then end up in Blighttown.
2. A powerful Pyromancy can be found shortly after arriving, positioned right next to a deadly enemy sticking its neck through a small hole in the wall of the penultimate floor. What Pyromancy is this?

Answer: Power Within

Power Within grants the caster a 20% boost to all forms of damage output, in exchange for causing them to be damaged for 1% of their maximum health every second. These effects are active for a full minute.
3. Once the player finally arrives at the bottom of the Blighttown elevator, if they're a part of a certain covenant, they can find a friendly NPC here who can act as a merchant. Who is this?

Answer: Shiva of the East

Shiva will only appear here if the player is actively a member of the Forest Hunters covenant. He seems to have chosen a poisonous swamp area filled with hostile creatures and deranged barbarians as a place for leisure time.

Here, he can sell the player unique weapons and gear they can't get anywhere else. He can also be killed, the only way of obtaining his signature weapon, the Murakumo, available to the player. If they do this, though, they'll be instantly kicked out of the Forest Hunters covenant and permanently banned from it for the rest of their playthrough.
4. Residing on a small island in the middle of the poison swamp is the NPC Quelana of Izalith. While seeming fairly modest and unimposing, Quelana is a very important character in the game's lore. Which of the following is Quelana's title?

Answer: Mother of all Pyromancy

Based on this title, Quelana can unsurprisingly sell the player multiple Chaos Pyromancies they can't get anywhere else.
5. When speaking to Quelana of Izalith and eventually purchasing all of her Pyromancies, she will then issue a request to the player. What does Quelana ask the player to do?

Answer: Kill the Bed of Chaos

The Bed of Chaos was formerly known as the Witch of Izalith, Quelana's mother. The Witch of Izalith tried to link the First Flame using her own Pyromancies. When this failed, it backfired very hard and turned her into the Bed of Chaos. As the Bed of Chaos, she would go on to spawn all sorts of horrible demons, and the close proximity of her son and two of her daughters transformed them as well. Quelana is the only unchanged member of this family, and her request for the player to kill her own mother is motivated by Quelana wishing to see her mother get put out of her misery.
6. Completion of Quelana of Izalith's request will prompt her to reward the player with an extremely powerful Pyromancy, Fire Tempest. As it happens, this isn't the only way to obtain this Pyromancy. What is the only other way to get it?

Answer: Kill Quelana

If the player finishes Quelana's request, they can immediately kill her to receive a second copy of Fire Tempest. While the means are definitely not particularly graceful, or ethically well founded, the Pyromancy itself is doubtlessly tempting.
7. Unfortunately, the player will encounter an ally here, or a former one, who has gone Hollow and must be put down. Who is this?

Answer: Laurentius

If the player tells Laurentius that Quelana of Izalith is in Blighttown, this will prompt him to investigate. As a Pyromancer himself, set to meet the Mother of all Pyromancies, this makes sense. Unfortunately, it seems the journey did not go well for Laurentius, and it is likely he was "killed" trying to make the trip.
8. The boss of Blighttown is Chaos Witch Quelagg. This would be the first instance of a notable resistance coming into play during a boss fight or, rather, a full fledged immunity. Which of the following is Quelagg completely immune to?

Answer: Fire

Given that Quelagg is a Drider whose lower half constantly spews lava, and Quelagg herself wields a flaming curved sword, this likely won't come as much of a surprise. Quelagg is the only enemy in the entire game to be completely immune to Fire.
9. Fortunately, the player does not have to face Quelagg alone. What NPC can they summon for help?

Answer: Maneater Mildred

Mildred's summon sign will not appear by default. She will actually end up invading the player as they progress through Blighttown. If the player defeats her, her summon sign will now be available. She is almost entirely naked as far as armor goes, and for weapons, she wields the Butcher Knife and a Plank Shield.

Despite being almost totally naked and using a wooden shield, Mildred's resistance to Fire is extremely high, making her a great tank for this fight.
10. After defeating Chaos Witch Quelagg, the second Bell of Awakening can be rung. If both bells have been rung, a previously locked area will now be unlocked. Where is this?

Answer: Sen's Fortress

The large, steel gate which had previously barred entry will now have been taken down. Typically, Sen's Fortress is a good idea for the player's next area to go through once this has been done.
11. After defeating Quelagg, a new covenant becomes available. Which one is this?

Answer: Chaos Servant

The Chaos Servant covenant is unique, because it can potentially be maxed out the moment the player joins it. It receives ranks by the player donating Humanities to it, maxing out at 30. In doing so, the player will earn the Chaos Fireball and Great Chaos Fireball Pyromancies.
12. Off to the side of Blighttown, the player can find a hidden pathway leading into the Great Hollow. Who is the boss of Great Hollow?

Answer: Nobody

The Great Hollow essentially connects Blighttown to Ash Lake. It is a very short area and features some tricky parkour to make it to the bottom, as the player starts from the top.
13. There are two types of enemies in the Great Hollow: Mushrooms, but something else which is much scarier to deal with that can insta-kill the player easily if they aren't on the top of their game. What other enemy appears here?

Answer: Basilisks

Basilisks have uniquely appeared in some capacity in every From Software game ever made up to "Elden Ring." They are notorious for their insta-kill proccing breath attacks. They are arguably deadlier in this game than any other, as the rate at which Curse builds up is significantly faster.

Because it is very possible to come here without the Lordvessel, it is a classic mistake for newer players to come here, get Cursed and, because they'd have no means of fast travel, simply having to make-do with half their usual health until they can escape the area. As such, the Basilisks alone here have caused Great Hollow to gain quite the reputation.
14. Within Ash Lake, Siegmeyer of Catarina's questline will finally reach its conclusion. Unfortunately, despite the player's efforts, there is only one way it can end. How does his questline end?

Answer: He dies

Specifically, when arriving at Ash Lake, if Siegmeyer's tough questline has been completed, the player will find his corpse resting in front of his daughter, Sieglinde. Sieglinde will reward the player for their efforts with a Titanite Slab. Reloading the area will cause both to disappear permanently for the rest of the playthrough.
15. The player can join a new covenant in Ash Lake. What covenant is this?

Answer: Path of the Dragon

Path of the Dragon is a largely PvP oriented covenant. Uniquely, it can even reward those who aren't part of the covenant. It is very simple: the player obtains a Dragon Eye, an item which is basically identical in function to the Red Sign Soapstone. The only difference is that there is no level restriction for Path of the Dragon PvP.

As such, in theory, a max level player or a player at level 1 can both interact with the Dragon Eye. However, the Dragon Eye also cannot be connected to a password, likely to prevent the player from simply using a level 1 friend to effortlessly max the covenant out.

When PvP occurs using the Dragon Eye, the winner of the fight earns a Dragon Scale, which can be used to advance rank in the covenant.
