Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As the heroic Link, your task is to stop King Ganondorf from acquiring the wish-granting sacred relic called the 'Triforce'. What is the name of the land in which Link pursues his quest in "Ocarina of Time"?

Answer: Hyrule

Hyrule is the name of the land that is the main setting for the "Legend of Zelda" series. It was the setting of the original game "The Legend of Zelda" (NES), and has been used as the main setting for many installments in the series since then, including "Ocarina of Time".

Holodrum was the setting used in "Oracle of Seasons" (Game Boy Color), while Labrynna was used for "Oracle of Ages" (also Game Boy Color). In both cases, the Triforce transports Link to the named locations.

"Majora's Mask" (N64) was set in the land of Termina, a land parallel to Hyrule.
2. After the opening video sequence to start the game, you (the player) finally gain control of Link and can begin your adventure. You start off in Link's home, which can be found where?

Answer: Kokiri Forest

Kokiri Forest is the home of the Kokiri race, also known as the children of the forest. The main feature of the forest is its guardian and the guardian of the Kokiri race: the Great Deku Tree. At the beginning of "Ocarina of Time", however, there is a curse on the Tree from the evil Ganondorf; Link breaks it, but too late to save the Tree's life.
3. With instructions from the Great Deku Tree, Link and his companion Navi (a fairy) need to go to see Princess Zelda. Where does she live?

Answer: Hyrule Castle

Princess Zelda reveals to Link the history of the Triforce, and how the three goddesses built the 'Temple of Time' to protect it from evil ones. Zelda explains that in order to gain access to the temple through the 'Door of Time', he needs to collect the three spiritual stones. In addition, Zelda tells him of her family's treasure, indelibly connected to the legend, called the 'Ocarina of Time'.

Kanlet Castle is a mini-dungeon in "Link's Awakening" (Game Boy), North Castle is a location from "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link" (NES), and the Ancient Castle of Ikana is found in "Majora's Mask" (N64).
4. Before Link can open the 'Door of Time' and protect the Triforce from Ganondorf, he collects the three spiritual stones: Kokiri's Emerald, Goron's Ruby and Zora's Sapphire. Which one of these locations did Link NOT have to go to in order to acquire them?

Answer: Death Mountain Crater

Link already has Kokiri's Emerald when he goes to visit Zelda, having received it from the Great Deku Tree. After speaking with Zelda, Link first goes to Goron City and accepts a quest from Darunia to rid nearby Dodongo's Cavern of monsters. After completing the quest, Darunia gives Link the Ruby. Next, Link travels to Zora's Domain where he is given the Sapphire upon saving Princess Ruto from the monster inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly (Jabu-Jabu is a gigantic fish).
5. Having acquired the three spiritual stones, Link goes to the Temple of Time and is able to open the Door of Time. Unfortunately, Ganondorf was laying in wait, simply walking in and taking the Triforce for his evil purposes. What is the name of the mystical land that Link enters through the Temple of Time?

Answer: The Sacred Realm

Within the Sacred Realm, Link meets the Light Sage (Rauru) who explains what has happened. They have held his soul in the Sacred Realm for seven years, waiting for him to be older and able to successfully complete his new quest: to save the five (other) Sages, and use their medallions to (hopefully) defeat Ganondorf.
6. The first Sage that Link frees is Saria, his childhood friend and Forest Sage. Her spirit was being held in the Forest Temple, and Link battles Phantom Ganon to save her and secure her medallion. Which land must Link travel through to find the entrance to the Forest Temple?

Answer: The Lost Woods

The Lost woods are a maze that can only be successfully traversed by 'following the music'. One wrong turn sends you back to Kokiri Forest, and you have start all over.

The Skeleton Forest is a location in "A Link to the Past" (SNES), the Woods of Mystery is in "Majora's Mask" (N64) and the Ordon Woods are found in "Twilight Princess" (Wii/Gamecube).
7. After the Forest Temple, Link travels to Goron City where he meets Darunia's son. Link learns of Volvagia (a Goron-eating lava dragon), and goes down into the Death Mountain Crater to rescue all the Gorons, including Darunia, the Fire Sage. Where does this battle take place?

Answer: The Fire Temple

Ganondorf had resurrected Volvagia to terrorize the Gorons, but Link's prowess saves them from their fate. Saving Darunia (the Fire Sage) also gives Link the next medallion that he needs to (hopefully) defeat Ganondorf.

The Palace of Darkness is a location in "A Link to the Past" (SNES), the Skull Dungeon is within "Oracle of Ages" (Gameboy Color), and the Dragon Roost Cavern can be found in "The Wind Waker" (GameCube).
8. Having acquired the Fire Mage's medallion, Link travels to the Water Temple where he faces mini-boss 'Dark Link' and boss Morpha, a giant aquatic amoeba. What is the name of the lake where the Water Temple is found?

Answer: Lake Hylia

When Ganondorf took over the land, he essentially drained Lake Hylia which, ironically, allows Link access to the Temple and the medallion of the Water Sage (Princess Ruto).

The Lake of Ill Omen is seen in "A Link to the Past" (SNES), Talus Lake is in "Oracle of Ages" (Gameboy Color), and Lake Floria shows up in "Skyward Sword" (Wii).
9. Returning to Kakariko Village, Link (in a cutout video) sees the village in flames, and Sheik coming up out of the well where the Shadow Temple was sealed. Soon after, Link acquires the Lens of Truth and learns the Nocturne of Shadow (from Sheik). Playing the Nocturne on the Ocarina of Time teleports Link to the entrance of the Shadow Temple, which is located within the graveyard.

Answer: True

The graveyard is accessible during the game, but the ledge where the entrance to the Shadow Temple can only be accessed through the magical use of the Ocarina of Time playing the Nocturne of Shadow.

In order to gain the Shadow Medallion (and rescue Impa, the Sage of Shadow), Link defeats the hardest boss in the game: Bongo Bongo (a phantom shadow beast).

Sheik, incidentally, shows up numerous times throughout the story to teach Link various needed melodies for the Ocarina. The first time we see her is as Link is leaving the Temple of Time, after waking from his seven years within the Sacred Realm.
10. The last medallion that Link needs to defeat Ganondorf is the Spirit Medallion. Within which land can the Spirit Temple be found?

Answer: The Haunted Wasteland

In order to get to the Spirit Temple, Link has to through a mini-dungeon called the Gerudo Fortress to get a weapon that will later be needed in the fight with Ganondorf. Within the Haunted Wasteland, Link has to cross the River of Sand and must use the Lens of Truth to follow the Phantom Guide to the Desert Colossus, which is the entrance to the Temple. Link defeats the boss Twinrova (twin sorceress sisters) and frees Nabooru (the Sage of Spirit).

The Desert of Mystery is in "A Link to the Past" (SNES), the Desert of Doubt is found in "Four Swords Adventures" (GameCube), and the Sand Realm is from "Spirit Tracks" (DS).

With all the medallions, Link is able to harness the power needed to defeat Ganondorf. He travels to Ganon's Castle and uses the power of the medallions to create a bridge across the castle's protective chasm. Once inside, Link must travel through six different rooms, using the different medallions again, one for each challenge. Finally, Link faces and defeats Ganondorf, but not before finding out that Sheik, who had helped him often during his quest, was in fact Zelda!
