The lives of four people are intertwined in "Heavy Rain", a game described as an interactive drama. Actions in the game are performed through quick-time events, where the player must make movements with the right analog stick or press a combination of buttons.

These actions, depending on the scenario, affect the ultimate outcome of the game. A number of different endings can be unlocked according to the decisions you make. The themes in the game are quite mature, dealing with abduction, murder, betrayal and violence, to name a few.

Media Molecule, a new UK video game developer on the scene, had unexpected success with their first ever title, "LittleBigPlanet". The game is a platformer, in which you control a little character called a Sackboy (or Sackgirl). You can customise the appearance of your Sackperson, who must make their way through each of 50 levels in the story mode. Perhaps the most enjoyable feature of the game, however, is creating your own levels.

The in-game level editor is so flexible that almost anything you can think of can be created.

The distinctive voice of Stephen Fry provides narration and hints and tips through the game.

Combining 3D and 2D platforming elements, "Sonic Unleashed" brings back the classic Sonic concept and gives it a modern twist. When Dr. Eggman unleashes Dark Gaia, a powerful beast residing in the heart of the planet, Sonic finds himself transformed into a Werehog come nightfall. During the daytime, Sonic speeds around as usual, but at night, gameplay shifts to a slower, more action-based setting.

While in his Werehog form, Sonic possesses great strength, allowing him to attack enemies using special attack skills.

At first glance, "Split/Second: Velocity" seems to be another racing game, but the concept of 'power-plays' really sets it apart. By drifting or drafting, you gain power, indicated by a meter on the HUD. Once it reaches one of three thresholds, icons appear on-screen in certain places along the track, indicating a place to trigger a 'power-play'.

These power-plays are events that trigger something destructive, such as a building falling over or vehicles exploding. Timing is the key when a power-play is triggered. Use them to your advantage to wreck rivals ahead of or behind you, or to open new paths in the track. Reacting quickly and avoiding rivals' power-plays is the key to winning in this game.

"Super Mario Galaxy 2" is the sequel to the acclaimed 2007 title, "Super Mario Galaxy". The game came about as a result of a heap of unused and new ideas from the previous game, and marks a first for the Mario series, being the second 3D Mario adventure game on a single home console. Gameplay is the same as "Super Mario Galaxy", with Mario's ability to attack enemies by spinning returning, as well as Star Bits, the Lumas, and for the first time since "Super Mario Sunshine" in 2002, Yoshi. Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach yet again, and harnesses the power of Grand Stars to grow to a huge size. Mario must explore the universe and collect Power Stars to progress through the the game.

When Zant, the Usurper King, escapes the Twilight Realm and shrouds Hyrule in a cloak of twilight, Link, along with Midna, a Twili creature, must defeat Twilit creatures all over the land to lift the veil of darkness. As usual, Ganondorf returns as the primary antagonist, but isn't mentioned until quite late into the game.

Instead of pressing a button to attack as per previous games, simply swinging the Wii remote in the Wii version makes Link attack with his sword. Another difference between the Wii and Gamecube versions is that the map of Hyrule is flipped.

This is due to Link holding his sword in his right hand in the Wii version for ease of play.

In an empty testing facility, a test subject named Chell wakes up from her stasis to find herself at the beginning of a series of test chambers, with only portals to aid her. "Portal" is a unique physics-based puzzle game, in which Chell must use two portals to proceed through 19 test chambers (and then the maintenance areas behind them) to reach GLaDOS, the omniscient, psychotic robot determined to destroy Chell.

It is GLaDOS' dark humour that really shines in this game. Combined with the tricky yet satisfying solutions to the test chambers, "Portal" stands out as one of the greats of the genre.

With a fanbase of well over 6 million, "Guild Wars" has held its ground in the MMORPG genre, giving powerhouse "World of Warcraft" a run for its money. As is tradition in MMOs, players create a character, choosing the appearance, class (or profession) and name.

In "Guild Wars: Prophecies", players begin in Ascalon, prior to a devastating event known as the Searing. The Searing changes the course of the game, as players discover new allies and enemies. Unlike "World of Warcraft", the level cap in this series is comparatively low - 20.

This allows for less grinding and greater ability to pick the best loadout for your character.
